Comelit-PAC deploys fire alarm system to Genting Casino

Comelit-PAC has revealed that in partnership with installation specialist VTF&S has upgraded the fire alarm system technology at Genting Casino in Westfield Stratford City.

As the UK’s largest casino floor, including the biggest poker room in the country, Genting Stratford operates around the clock, welcoming visitors day and night. Any upgrade to critical infrastructure needed to be carried out without interrupting the flow of customers and staff, while maintaining strict safety standards throughout.

According to Comelit-PAC, the casino’s previous fire alarm system operated on a closed protocol, which had become increasingly restrictive. Even minor adjustments required specialist call-outs, increasing costs and slowing response times.

By contrast, Comelit-PAC said its four-loop fire system offers a more flexible, open protocol approach, enabling easier maintenance and reducing long-term operational expense.

The upgrade also ensures improved system reliability and faster fault identification, better suited to the demands of a busy, high-traffic venue.

Beyond the technical and visual improvements, the inclusion of Comelit-PAC’s free cloud connection allows the system to be monitored and supported remotely.

Secure cloud access enables engineers to diagnose and often resolve issues without waiting for a site visit.

VTF&S installation – The installation was carried out by VTF&S while the casino remained fully operational. Working in a live environment required careful planning and coordination, supported by Comelit-PAC’s technical team. The company said that this collaborative approach enabled the upgrade to be delivered with minimal disruption, while also setting the foundation for faster, more cost-effective ongoing support through remote connectivity.

According to the company, the project’s success relied on close collaboration between Genting Casino, VTF&S and Comelit-PAC.

Clear communication and planning ensured the system could be upgraded safely and efficiently while the venue continued to operate as normal, added Comelit-PAC.

Centurion installs Comelit-PAC LogiFire system for Augean waste facility

LogiFire system strengthens Augean Kirkby site protection

Comelit-PAC has supplied its LogiFire wireless, addressable multi-panel fire alarm system at Augean’s Kirkby site.

The installation was completed by Centurion Fire & Security to ensure the waste management facility achieved full compliance with fire-safety regulations.

Augean required a system offering full site coverage, local and remote monitoring and minimal disruption during installation.

Comelit-PAC said the wireless configuration enabled a faster and less intrusive setup while maintaining reliability and scalability for future expansion.

Wireless installation delivers full compliance

The system was designed to meet the highest category of fire protection under BS 5839-1:2017 (Category L1).

Emma Smith, Site Manager at Augean, said: “Great service from Centurion, the installation guys always worked efficiently and professionally.

“We’re pleased with the Comelit-PAC products installed and would be happy to recommend, especially the wireless aspect that have made a real difference in our fire safety set-up.”

Thermal CCTV cameras were installed across external areas to provide perimeter monitoring and early fire-risk detection.

External manual call points and sounder visual alarm devices (VADs) were positioned to deliver clear alerts in case of emergency.

Integrated control across all systems

According to Comelit-PAC, the fire detection and CCTV systems were integrated into a centralised management platform.

This configuration enables Augean to oversee the system from any location, maintaining full visibility of site safety operations.

Listed Bradford building receives fire safety upgrade

Comelit-PAC has reported that its LogiFire wireless system has been installed at Guardian House, a listed building in Bradford.

The installation was part of a refurbishment project led by Inspired Neighbourhoods in collaboration with Centurion Fire & Security Ltd, aimed at redeveloping the former Bradford City Registry Office for modern office use and community services.

Guardian House had been unused and was at risk of falling into disrepair. Inspired Neighbourhoods is refurbishing the building as part of a wider regeneration initiative in Bradford city centre.

Wireless system installed to preserve historical structure

Centurion Fire & Security Ltd recommended upgrading the fire detection and alarm system due to issues with the existing infrastructure.

The wireless version of Comelit-PAC’s LogiFire system was selected for installation in the building’s graded areas to avoid the need for additional cabling, which would have impacted the structure.

Project forms part of community regeneration plan

Inspired Neighbourhoods is overseeing the redevelopment, which aims to attract daily footfall and contribute to local economic growth.

Assim Hussain, Chief Executive Officer of Inspired Neighbourhoods, said: “We are committed to revitalising the building, maximising community benefit, and contributing to the economic regeneration of Bradford’s city centre. The redevelopment plan anticipates hosting a range of services that will attract up to 300 people to the city centre daily.”

Comelit-PAC stated that the LogiFire range includes wireless addressable and conventional translators with remote and cloud-based monitoring capability.

Structural fire fighting response to marine incidents (part 2) By Paul E. Calderwood, Calderwood Consulting International

In February 1989 there was a vessel fire in Wilmington Delaware on the MV Centaurus and the following issues and problems were identified by the fire department:

  • Inability to communicate with the crew
  • Lack of knowledge of vessel systems and arrangement
  • Lack of knowledge of the fire control plan
  • Logistic of managing large amounts of foam concentrate, including protecting the foam from freezing temperatures
  • Difficulty in recharging large numbers of radios and flashlights during a prolonged operation
  • Difficulty in dewatering and controlling pollution from contaminated runoff

These and many other issues and problems will be faced by fire fighters and the command staff at a vessel fire and with proper pre-fire planning many of these can be eliminated or reduced.

All fires to a fire fighter can be a life and death situation, but with shipboard firefighting there is a heightened level of risk due to the unknowns.

Use of 30-minute air tanks may be only enough to get you to the fire but not able to exit from a lower deck or engine room.

There are a number of MIRT (Marine Incident Response Teams) Teams formed in the US today.

The make-up of these teams includes port area fire departments, USCG, special experts like marine architects and marine chemist and other agencies and departments that would be called upon to respond to a vessel fire.

These teams are used also to provide training and drills prior to actual events but it gives the responders the opportunity to meet each other and iron out any problems in a non-emergency situation.

Mutual aid training of fire fighters is an area of planning that will need extensive work to accomplish.

Every fire department is faced with legally mandated training, much of which is required to be repeated annually.

Finding the time, the vessels, competent instructors and a safe location to hold training is needed and not easy to do.

The basic training of fire fighters for responding to a shipboard fire is roughly 16 – 24 hours.

Now you have to factor in the typical day in the life of a fire fighter, shift starts at 8am, equipment checks and housework until 9am, training from 9-9:30 until lunch.

After lunch class could start around 1:30 until 5 pm, so in one day with breaks and lunch you will get about 6 hours’ worth of training in; unless there is a fire or a medical call.

Depending on fire department work schedules, vacation schedules, sick days and injuries it could take months to get everyone through just the basic training.

The hands-on training can be organized through multi-departmental drills with assistance from the shipping companies and the US Coast Guard.

The one item that can be pointed to as a problem at every fire that has not gone right is communications.

The command staff of a vessel fire should already be aware that they will have communications problems, especially trying to communicate with the fire attack teams below deck.

The comment about being able to communicate in any type of building can also be any type of vessel.

The steel construction of a vessel is going to cause problems on many levels but especially with communications.

During practical drills in Everett we have found that a standard portable radio can reach 2-3 decks below the main deck near a stairwell.

The use of radio relays or using the ship’s communications systems may be the only way to get messages back and forth.

A secondary issue of communications comes from the ability of the OIC to communicate in a common language.

The terminology of the marine environment and ships system is complicated; if an OIC has no idea what a ship’s crew member is talking about it is doubtful that he will go along with it.

During port calls, many of the ship’s crewmembers may be on shore leave and will be unavailable to assist in the emergency and with a language barrier it will be difficult to ascertain who is accounted for or missing.

A M.I.R.T. is a group of training individuals from the many different agencies and departments in the area that have practiced together and responded to actual incidents.

Special experts like marine architects, marine chemists and vessel stability are vital to have on scene throughout the event.

The M.I.R.T. team concept can help bridge the gaps that are left from the lack of training.

These experts can help OIC’s in developing attack plans that can actually keep fire fighters above deck and not have to enter spaces that can be attacked using ship systems.

The use of some indirect attack methods, like flooding a space with CO2, can help buy time for the OIC to arrange for further support and resources.

There are similarities in the basic construction and layouts but being familiar with a vessel will make a difference when an actual event occurs.

Training can be upgraded to practice drills where fire fighters board a vessel in turnout gear and simulate fire conditions, advance lines, do search and rescue, patient removals and systems operations.

Through the use of drills on actual vessels fire fighters will gain a working knowledge of how to operate on a vessel, how to find their way around the different decks and how to communicate.

The simple task of walking onto the ship, across the main deck and then down 4-5 decks to a smoke-filled engine room is not something an average fire fighter can physically do.

The command staff needs to know how to organize the attack on a fire and how to set up an accountability system to track all fire fighters and crew members.

The pre-fire planning that is needed in a port community needs to address all the different types of vessels that dock there.

Based on the different types of vessel the plan can be generic for all vessels or it may have to be specific to each type of vessel due to the size or hazards associated with the vessel.

In the back of the NFPA 1405 Guide there are generic forms that can be used to start your planning; the intent of the forms is to have a memory jogger that will assist the incident commander that is first assigned to the vessel fire to gather important information that can and will change during the course of the fire.

These changes need to be monitored but without a good base line to start with the changes may not seem to be as serious as they really are.

Things like the depth of the vessel in the water and any listing of the vessel to one side are important to note.

Accountability was one area that needs to be assigned to an officer at the beginning of the incident.

When coordinating the efforts of hundreds of fire fighters and the alphabet soup of local, state and federal agencies, there has to be a detailed method of accounting for everyone, especially those entering into the hot zones.

Control and check points need to be established at the vessel entrances and members need to check in when boarding and check out when leaving the vessel.

A secondary check point is also needed at the point where fire fighters are actually entering into the vessel to attack the fire.

The time they enter, and their air bottle pressure should be written down and an estimated time of return and their destination.

If the crew does not return within the given time period and is unable to be contacted the rapid intervention team should be sent in to search for them.

Crews can easily become disorientated below deck and travel to another exit point, but they should always contact the checkpoint where they entered to notify them that the team has exited the interior of the vessel safely.

If your department could be called on to respond to any type of vessel fire, please take the time and get the proper training to be able to safely and professionally respond and mitigate the situations.

Technical specifications and certifications

The addressable transceivers of the new range are notable for their ability to integrate directly into the existing loops of a fire alarm system, complete with built-in isolators to enhance safety.

They can support up to 32 devices per loop, with a maximum of five loops per panel, providing extensive coverage.

The system’s wireless capability extends to 1500 meters with a battery life expectancy of ten years for detectors and manual call points, and eight years for sounder beacons.

All devices are certified according to EN54-25, EN54-17, and EN54-18 standards, ensuring compliance with European safety regulations.

Bowden added: “As wireless fire detection systems become more common, we have a duty of care and responsibility as an industry to provide systems that can accommodate the evolving needs and priorities of all building types, based on a thorough site survey.”

Can you share some highlights of your journey with Comelit-PAC so far?

Since I joined Comelit-PAC almost five years ago, we’ve witnessed huge changes.  Not least with the acquisition, which we’re celebrating its second anniversary, bringing two industry stalwarts together to create integrated solutions for a wider audience.

Evolving into the Fire Manager role at Comelit-PAC, I’ve witnessed our team’s growth not just in numbers but also in product development and technical expertise.

We’ve created a culture of knowledge sharing, training, research and development that has elevated our team’s skill set and reflected outward.

This collaborative spirit has not only enabled us to navigate the rapidly evolving landscape of fire safety but also to stay ahead of industry trends, ensuring that Comelit-PAC becomes a trusted leader in the fire safety sector.

In your experience, what have been the most significant changes in the fire and safety sector, and how have you navigated them?

The fire safety sector has undergone dramatic transformations in recent years, driven by the legislative changes brought in following the Grenfell Tower tragedy. 2023 has been a year of action.   

The most recent phase came in October, with the introduction of Section 156 of the Building Safety Act 2022 (BSA)) as phase three. 

It includes new responsibilities for collaboration with Responsible Persons and increased requirements for recording and sharing fire safety information.

Comelit-PAC recognises the pivotal role we play in supporting compliance and ensuring the safety of individuals, communities, and properties.

We’ve not only adapted our LogiFire portfolio product offerings but also intensified our commitment to rigorous testing and quality assurance.  

Most recently, we have presented the opportunity for cloud-based remote monitoring and highlighted the important differentiation of compliance versus approval with the need to understand the requirements for both to ensure a safer environment.

How has your role evolved over the years at Comelit-PAC

My role as Fire Manager has undergone a significant transformation. Initially focused on traditional fire safety products, protocols and procedures, it now includes a wider and more strategic range of responsibilities.

With the need for more regulated compliance and the advent of smart technology, IOT and data-driven insights, Comelit-PAC works with our customers in partnership. 

This way, we can offer guidance and support hands-on training opportunities, with the technical team presenting a range of courses from initial introductory to installation through to commissioning and fault finding.

We aim to ensure our customers feel the tagline of Comelit-PAC, being “with you always,” at every step of the fire safety process.

Can you share a memorable project or challenge you’ve faced in your role, and how you addressed it?

Fire safety is an essential requirement in every building to show compliance, regardless of its type or purpose. 

In this respect, we have worked on some fantastic projects, from residential, leisure and commercial to honey farms. 

The most recent and memorable, was Accrington Stanley. 

A football ground we all grew up knowing the advert for milk!

It was great to be involved in its community trust’s new £2m state-of-the-art sports hub.

LogiFire as an addressable system was installed and integrated within the building management to ensure remote monitoring.

As Fire Manager what is your vision for the company in the next 5 years?

The fire sector will continue to evolve as we ensure something like Grenfell can never happen again.  It’s going to take continued learning, regulatory change and strict enforcement of compliance. 

For Comelit-PAC we have a duty of care and responsibility to support installers and their customers looking to stay ahead. 

We will continue to offer and expand our training courses, utilising our expert facilities in Luton and Manchester.

We’re also very conscious of the growing trends towards integration, where security and fire safety systems operate from one building management resource. 

And one that can be managed remotely, at any time from anywhere. 

Our latest FIRE2VIP interface has been developed to meet this demand to coordinate fire safety and video door entry.

Deva City Office Park boosts fire safety measures with modern technology

Comelit-PAC and GB Integrated Systems partner for safer solutions

The Hop House in Deva City Office Park has undergone significant upgrades with the help of Comelit-PAC and their partners GB Integrated Systems.

This initiative is aimed at strengthening fire safety for all those frequenting this unique work space.

Historical site meets modern safety

Once part of the famed Threlfalls Brewery, an emblematic part of Manchester’s cityscape, Deva City Office Park offers a diverse range of business spaces.

This includes a Grade II listed Brewery building and 17 top-tier self-contained office units.

Recognising the imperative nature of constant security and fire safety, GB Integrated Systems collaborated closely with the site management team.

The goal was to revamp the addressable panels using Comelit-PAC’s state-of-the-art LogiFire solution.

Iain Taylor, Director of Asset Management at Northwood Investors International Limited, voiced the challenges faced: “Our complex requirements for Deva City in terms of security and fire safety were evident.

“Every business on the premises required individual risk assessments.

“These needs had to be juxtaposed with the Grade II classified buildings, ensuring upgrades complemented the historical classification while integrating modern technology.”

Ensuring aesthetics while prioritising safety

GB Integrated Systems specifically chose the LogiFire Easy fire safety solution from Comelit-PAC for the office park.

The requirements included a stand-alone 1-loop analogue addressable panel.

Upgrade in fire safety system at a prominent honey farm

Chain Bridge Honey Farm, recognised for its honey production and visitor experience, has enhanced its fire safety systems with the installation of Comelit-PACs LogiFire solution.

Nestled in the scenic countryside of Horncliffe, the farm has been a thriving family enterprise since William Selby Robson, a beekeeping advisor, established it in 1948.

Today, the farm comprises three honey houses, over 2,000 hives, and a visitor centre.

LogiFire system fortifies fire safety

Aiming to bolster fire safety measures primarily in the Farm’s Visitor Centre, the farm’s team collaborated with local experts, SPARC Fire and Security.

The latter was brought onboard to design and install a compliant fire safety system.

Relying on previous experiences, SPARC Fire and Security recommended the LogiFire system, renowned for its self-addressing solution and ability to integrate cloud-based monitoring and management.

Frances Robson of Chain Bridge Honey Farm said: “Our farm draws thousands of visitors annually. We needed to ensure the safety and security of our visitor centre and our observation hive, a key attraction.”

She added : “SPARC Fire and Security worked closely with us to upgrade our existing fire safety system. They suggested LogiFire for its customised capabilities and cutting-edge features, ensuring we are compliant with the latest regulations.”

The LogiFire system, compliant with EN Approvals, is paired with a series of detectors, blending effortlessly with the surroundings.

The Evolution of Fire Safety

Mandy Bowden, Fire Manager at Comelit-PAC shares her views on the fire safety landscape with IFSJ Editor Iain Hoey

2023 started with new legislation, and with more guidance expected in quarter three, the year is becoming one of real significance in the way we approach fire safety. 

But what does this mean in our day-to-day activities?

Iain Hoey, Editor of International Fire Safety Journal, speaks exclusively to Mandy Bowden, Fire Manager at Comelit-PAC. 

The interview highlights new expectations placed on the sector as a whole to maintain standards and awareness, in line with evolving technology and specification demands.

What do the new standards mean for the fire industry?

The Fire Safety (England) Regulations came into force on 23 January 2023. The purpose of these regulations was to implement the recommendations made during Phase 1 of the Grenfell Tower Inquiry. 

They impose specific and ongoing obligations on the “responsible person” regarding fire safety, in line with the duties outlined in the Building Safety Act, which itself only recently launched.

What is required of the reasonable person varies, according to the height of the building. 

There are some baseline obligations and then enhanced for residential buildings over 11 metres and further for 18 metres high.  They also extend to higher-risk buildings including care homes, hospitals and student accommodation.

These will be complemented by new regulations for fire safety legal provisions within section 156 of the Building Safety Act 2022

Expected for 1st October 2023, they make several amendments to the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 (FSO) to improve fire safety in all buildings regulated by the FSO.

The fire sector has a duty of care to stay one step ahead and support the new ‘responsible persons’ to ensure together, we can navigate these new expectations with confidence and resilience.

Speaking of Grenfell, it is the sixth anniversary of the tragedy in 2023.  What significance does this still hold?

The sixth anniversary of the Grenfell Tower tragedy still holds immense significance and serves as a solemn reminder of one of the most devastating incidents in recent memory.

This anniversary remains an opportunity for reflection and remembrance.

Alongside the legislative changes that have been introduced, and the continued inquiries and investigations, there is the constant questioning of what more can we do.

The need to raise public awareness about the importance of fire safety and emphasis the need for every building to have adequate measures in place to prevent such tragedies from happening again.

Ultimately, every anniversary will honour the memory of those who lost their lives, and stand in solidarity with the survivors. 

It will also renew the commitment to effect meaningful change to prevent similar tragedies from ever happening in the future.

Can you share your perspective on the importance of fire safety education and public awareness campaigns?

It’s vital to continue to educate everyone on the essential significance of fire safety. 

Not just having the right systems in place, or the most up-to-date legislation, but also fully understanding hazards, risks and potential for fire. 

Education must encompass a wide range of topics, including an understanding of the role of the Responsible Person, fire prevention strategies, proper use of fire extinguishers, evacuation procedures, and the importance of early detection through smoke alarms.

By disseminating this knowledge, individuals can take proactive measures to protect themselves, their families, and their communities.

With increased awareness, we are looking for positive behavioural change.

When individuals understand the potential consequences of fire incidents and have the necessary knowledge to prevent and respond to them, they are more likely to adopt safe practices.

It’s a combined effort, but one that the fire safety sector can play a significant role.

We have the support capability to educate our customers and their end users. 

By promoting preparedness and providing accurate information, these initiatives contribute to a safer environment and reduce the potential for loss and trauma associated with fire incidents.

How do you see the relationship between building design and fire safety evolving in the future?

From the sector’s perspective, we understand the relationship between building design and fire safety and see how it must evolve to enable a fast response. 

We work closely with Comelit-PAC’s specification team to introduce fire safety as early as possible into a specification process, whether a new build or refurbishment programme, enabling works to incorporate routes to escape and building management. 

From here we can support a dedicated risk assessment and work findings into the initial design phase.

We can incorporate fire safety to utilise modern technology routes to allow for optimal time and coordinate with Responsible Persons to have the remote capability to evaluate risk and enable a fast response.

Overall, the evolving relationship will be marked by a stronger integration of technology, a focus on passive fire protection, enhanced evacuation strategies, sustainable solutions, stricter compliance with building codes, and increased collaboration among professionals.

These advancements aim to create buildings that prioritise occupant safety and minimise the risks associated with fire incidents.

What’s next for the fire safety industry?

The landscape of fire safety is undergoing a remarkable transformation.  Not only in the need for compliance but also as technology advances. 

Organisations are embracing innovative solutions to safeguard their assets, people and premises.

The integration of smart technologies, such as the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), and cloud capability, is revolutionising fire safety systems.  

We are particularly proud that our LogiFire is already cloud-enabled to allow real-time monitoring from anywhere, early fire detection, and efficient emergency response.  

Smart fire alarms, connected sensors, and intelligent evacuation systems are also examples of how technology is continuing to enhance fire safety.

Advances in fire detection and suppression technologies are improving the effectiveness and speed of response.

New detection systems use innovative methods, including advanced sensors and machine learning algorithms to provide early warning and accurate identification of fire incidents.

The use of data analytics and predictive modelling is becoming increasingly important in fire risk assessment.

By analysing historical data, building characteristics, and fire incident patterns, fire safety professionals can identify high-risk areas and prioritise preventive measures.

All of this needs to adapt to the evolving needs and lifestyles of the 21st century and be app monitored. 

For Comelit-PAC users, it means systems can be status checked across a fire safety network on a remote basis, making sure they are always connected and fully operational.

What advice do you have for time, resource and budget-restricted installers looking to stay ahead of the game?

The main advice we would give is to commit to ongoing improvement.  We know it’s always an objective in theory, but in practice, set against work programmes and customer demands, it doesn’t always achieve its priority status.

By regularly evaluating processing, installation and customer feedback, strengths and areas for improvement can consistently be identified.

We see this willingness to adapt as setting installers apart from their competitors.

There are plenty of ways to stay updated on industry trends including industry publications in our industry, conferences and professional associations. 

We’ve seen already the impressive attendance of The Fire Safety Event and FIREX as a willingness to explore new opportunities.

There are also free hands-on training programmes to help installers to enhance their skills and knowledge. 

Comelit-PAC offers this with our dedicated training schedule associated with our LogiFire addressable fire safety system. 

The aim of the training is for our dedicated sales and technical fire team to work with the skillset of the installers, from an introduction through to an advanced level. 

They will be able to see from a hands-on approach the ease of installing LogiFire offers.

There is also a networking course and most recently, due to installer demand, we introduced an installation and fault-finding session.

From our perspective, staying ahead of the game in the fire safety industry requires a combination of technical expertise, industry knowledge, and a customer-centric approach.

By embracing new technologies, staying updated on regulations, fostering collaboration, and prioritising customer service, you can position yourself as a trusted and innovative fire safety installer. 

It sounds like a lot, but with the support and regular communications with sector specialists, installers can benefit from a strong partnership and access to the expertise, advice and resources needed to tackle any fire safety programme of works.

Finally, could you discuss any upcoming projects or initiatives that Comelit-PAC is excited about?

What most excites me is the flexibility of the LogiFire system. 

We are currently working on projects as varied as a renowned football club to a famous honey farm.

This year LogiFire has been installed – amongst many other projects – at an office development at an iconic Manchester city skyline development, a leisure centre and a hotel in Brighton.

Each time we are specified, we need to understand the bespoke requirements of the site and see how LogiFire can be best utilised. 

We aim to ensure the system can be installed to seamlessly blend with its surroundings, without affecting the experience of visitors, staff, residents and guests.

Like the fire safety sector as a whole, we are also continuously working on our portfolio to ensure we are offering the very latest solution.

Our latest FIRE2VIP interface enables a complete building management system to coordinate fire safety and video door entry. 

The addition of FIRE2VIP highlights LogiFire’s innovative capability to enhance the convenience and accessibility of fire safety maintenance programmes and ensure the safety of a building can always be kept under control.

Comelit-PAC makes multi-million pound leisure complex fire safe

A new multi-million pound leisure centre, owned by Great Yarmouth Borough Council, is now fire safe thanks to a partnership with Secur-It specifying Comelit-PAC’s integrated solution.

The new £26m Marina Centre leisure complex on Great Yarmouth’s seafront, was designed to replace the old 1980s built centre.  With work starting in January 2021, it reopened in August 2022.

Operated by Freedom Leisure, the new facility features a six-lane swimming pool, learner pool and aqua play area with flumes, a 120-station gym, a four court sports hall, 10m indoor climbing zone, three studios and community spaces.

Says Freedom Leisure Area Manager Martin Marsh: “The opening of our new centre is a very exciting chapter for Great Yarmouth, and a significant investment that we are thrilled to present to our guests.  Whilst its core objective is to offer the latest and greatest facilities; it’s integral that it can be enjoyed in a fire safe and secure environment.   

“We worked in partnership with the main contractors, right from the early stages of the design, and specification of fire safety was a key priority.  The team could offer advice, recommendations and practical support on how and where to install measures to blend with their surroundings, without affecting the experience for our staff and guests.”

Main contractors Morgan Sindall worked with Secur-It right from initial design processes to incorporate Comelit-PAC’s fire safety solutions. This included integrating the fire safety with the access control, turnstile and security services alongside the PA system. 

Arnaud Marosi, Secur It Commercial Director added: “By specifying Comelit-PAC at The Marina Centre, we could present a fire system that balances offering a high performance life safety solution, without interfering with the natural flow of a busy leisure centre.  

“With excellent technical support available, we were able to integrate seamlessly with the security and PA system to enable staff to speed up response time and advise guests about the safest emergency route.  We could also install around the facilities without impacting on look or feel.  The result is a wonderful example of a new complex that is already making a big impact on its community, secure in the knowledge it’s doing so with all due care and attention to fire safety.”

In total, for the Marina Leisure Centre complex, the 20 zone fire safety system specified from Comelit-PAC included a 4 loop addressable panel, a repeater and 383 devices which included detectors, call points, sounders and visual alarm devices.

Mandy Bowden, Comelit-PAC Fire Manager concluded: “By considering the fire detection and alarm systems early in the programme of works, we could specify a tailor made, integrated and inclusive solution without impacting on its function, aesthetics or appearance.  The result once installed is so much more than a safe and secure leisure centre, but also a fantastic facility for residents’ health and wellbeing, and for the visitors to Great Yarmouth to enjoy.”
