An integral part of the MoU includes a survey of elderly citizens’ homes and a promotional campaign for the fire alarm system ‘Husnutak’.

This campaign aims to increase the installation rate of the system in homes of elderly citizens, thereby enhancing the safety and security of residents and protecting them from fire accidents.

Excellency Lieutenant General Expert Rashid Thani Al Matroushi, Director-General of Dubai Civil Defence General Directorate, and Omar Hamad Bushahab, Executive Director of MBRHE, represented their respective organisations in the signing of the MoU.

H.E. Matrooshi emphasised the importance of the Husnutak device in all residences to boost safety and security.

He highlighted the MoU’s role in enhancing the efficiency of firefighters and rescuers, supporting fire prevention, and ensuring rapid response to incidents.

Bushahab reiterated MBRHE’s commitment to productive collaborations with strategic partners in Dubai.

He expressed that the MoU with Dubai Civil Defence would significantly improve the quality of life of citizens by deploying advanced safety and protection solutions in residences.

He also mentioned the partnership’s role in augmenting MBRHE’s capability to rapidly respond to emergencies, identify their causes, and work with relevant authorities to develop strategic preventive measures.

FSAI exhibitions

The General Directorate of Dubai Civil Defense’s participation in the Fire & Security Association of India (FSAI) exhibition has been notably successful.

The FSAI, recognised as Asia’s largest organisation for safety, fire, and security professionals, acknowledged the effectiveness of the Dubai Civil Defense Readiness program during this event.

The delegation, led by His Excellency Major General Jamal bin Aded Al Muhairi, Assistant Director-General for Resources and Support Services, attended the FSAI convention in India, which caters to safety, fire, and security professionals.

The international association expressed appreciation for the proactive and evolving role of the Dubai Civil Defense Readiness program.

The focus of Dubai Civil Defense’s participation was to showcase the Dubai Civil Defense Readiness program.

This program is dedicated to protecting lives and property, integrating environmental readiness, and leveraging scientific and technological advancements to reduce carbon emissions from fire incidents.

Its proactive approach in predicting and implementing preventative measures contributes to the reduction of fire incidents and carbon emissions.

This program aligns with the United Arab Emirates’ broader goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 40% by 2030, as part of its efforts to achieve climate neutrality by 2050.

The ‘World Fire Emission Reduction Alliance’, established at COP28, along with the strategic MoU between Dubai Civil Defence and the Mohammed bin Rashid Housing Establishment, represent significant steps in international collaborative efforts.

First Corporal Ghadeer Al Kaabi: a Dubai hero in action

First Corporal Ghadeer Al Kaabi, a firefighter from Dubai Civil Defense, has been commended saved the lives of 24 individuals from a residential fire in Bur Dubai.

As detailed in The National, Al Kaabi was in the vicinity when he spotted flames engulfing a residence.

He promptly alerted the control room and ventured into the burning property, aiming to secure the inhabitants’ safety.

Fire quickly spreading to vehicles and adjacent structures

Al Kaabi reported that the fire had reached two vehicles, a tent, and the house’s annex, yet observed no activity within the residence.

The main entryway was shut and no occupants were seen exiting the building.

Upon entering the house, he found families within the villa unaware of the threatening blaze.

Al Kaabi managed to lead them to safety and administered first aid to one injured resident until the arrival of further emergency services.

His quote: “What I did was my professional and humanitarian duty as a fireman. The department ensures we are well trained to be ready for emergencies.”

Dubai Police have yet to reveal the timing of the fire and subsequent rescue operation.

In a Wednesday ceremony, high-ranking officers from Dubai Police honoured Al Kaabi’s act of bravery.

He took the risk and went inside despite the flames and smoke.”

Fire claims the lives of 16 in Al Ras area of Dubai

A tragic fire incident occurred at a residential building in the Al Ras area of Dubai, leading to 16 deaths and 9 injuries on Saturday 15 April.

The Dubai Civil Defense team responded immediately to contain the blaze.

Relevant authorities are conducting a comprehensive investigation to provide a detailed a report on the causes of the accident.

The Dubai Civil Defense team worked tirelessly to rescue those affected by the fire, with assistance from the Dubai Police, Dubai Municipality, and the Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services.

Unfortunately, 16 people lost their lives in the incident, with 9 others suffering injuries. The injured were promptly taken to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.

In the wake of the fire, Dubai’s General Directorate of Civil Defence has emphasised the significance of property owners and occupants adhering to security and safety regulations and guidelines to prevent accidents and ensure the protection of lives.

What happened at the Al Ras fire?

On Saturday, a fire broke out in a residential building in Dubai.

The Dubai Civil Defence Operations Room was notified of the fire at 12:35 pm.

Within six minutes of being notified, a team from the Dubai Civil Defence headquarters arrived at the site at 12:41 pm.

The first responders immediately started both evacuation and firefighting operations.

Teams from the Port Saeed Fire Station and the Hamriyah Fire Station provided backup to the firefighting operations.

The large-sized fire broke out in an apartment on the fourth floor of the building.

The fire was brought under control at 2:42 pm and cooling operations began.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the lack of compliance with building security and safety requirements caused the fire.

Concerned authorities are conducting a comprehensive investigation to provide a detailed report on the causes of the accident.

The site of the fire has been transferred to the relevant authorities for further procedures.
