Britannia Fire secures Dubai government approval

Britannia Fire has revealed that its P50 fire extinguishers have officially been certified for use by major government entities in the Emirate of Dubai including Dubai Civil Defence, Dubai Airport and the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA).

According to the company, the Certificate of Conformity (COC) was obtained from the Emirates Safety Laboratory (ESL) by the Concorde-Corodex Group, Britannia Fire’s distribution partner across the Middle East and North Africa.

A global leader in the design and production of composite fire extinguishers, Britannia Fire manufactures the P50 range from its factory in Norfolk, UK.

The advanced composite materials remove the need for annual servicing, with refurbishment only required after ten years, while the multi-purpose, fully recyclable and PFAS-free design helps support sustainability.

The approval comes as many government facilities in Dubai continue to rely on conventional steel extinguishers, which require annual servicing, have shorter operational lifespans and often contain PFAS.

“Enhanced operational efficiency and significant cost savings”

Asharaf Pallath, Sales Manager at Concorde-Corodex commented: “Government organisations in the region are showing strong interest in the P50 PFAS-Free Foam model.

“It is suitable for Class A, B and F fires and is also safe for use on live electrical equipment up to 1000V.

“In many cases, a single P50 can replace two separate extinguishers, offering enhanced operational efficiency and significant cost savings through reduced servicing needs and fewer overall units required,” he concluded.

Concorde-Corodex

Concorde-Corodex already supplies more than 5,000 P50 fire extinguishers annually in the Abu Dhabi region to the industrial and oil and gas sectors, where the P50 has long held Abu Dhabi Civil Defence approval.

The new certification paves the way for further expansion into the Dubai and the Northern Emirates.

Dafo Vehicle certifications cover Gulf bus standards

Dafo Vehicle has achieved certification for UAE.S 5041:2021 and SASO 2946:2020 for fire suppression systems used in buses and coaches.

Dafo Vehicle announced that both certifications were issued by the Emirates Safety Laboratory (ESL).

UAE.S 5041:2021 is the United Arab Emirates standard for automatic fire suppression systems in the engine compartments of buses and coaches carrying more than 22 passengers.

The standard is intended to improve public transport safety by requiring vehicles in the region to use fire protection systems that meet defined testing requirements.

Those requirements include fire performance testing, along with vibration resistance testing.

The standard also requires temperature endurance testing to confirm system function in extreme operating conditions.

Dafo Vehicle adds Saudi standard approval

The company said its fire suppression systems are also certified to SASO 2946:2020, the Saudi Arabian standard for fire suppression systems in buses and coaches.

The Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) issued that regulation for passenger vehicles operating in Saudi Arabia.

It sets requirements for automatic fire detection and suppression in engine compartments and for system performance during fire scenarios.

It also covers durability and reliability under vehicle operating conditions, with compliance verified through certified testing laboratories.

Dafo Vehicle said the two certifications support its work with operators and original equipment manufacturers in the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia.

KNPC marks Kuwait firefighter graduations as fire training centre reaches 250 alumni

Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) held a ceremony to mark the graduation of a new batch of newly appointed firefighters working at the company and at Kuwait Integrated Petroleum Industries Company (KIPIC).

State news agency Kuna reported that the ceremony took place on Sunday at KNPC’s Main Support and Emergency Operations Center.

The number of graduates reached 65 firefighters.

The firefighters completed a training course accredited by the US National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).

The ceremony was attended by Al-Ahmadi Governor Sheikh Homoud Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, KNPC Chief Executive Officer and Acting Chief Executive Officer of KIPIC Wadha Al-Khateeb.

Strengthening firefighting systems and training centre accreditation

KNPC Deputy Chief Executive Officer for Support Services Kholoud Al-Mutairi said: “Kuwait National Petroleum Company (KNPC) is keen to strengthen its firefighting system, in recognition of the vital role it plays.”

Al-Mutairi said enhancing the efficiency of firefighters is among the company’s top priorities through advanced training and qualification programmes.

She highlighted the Ahmadi Governor’s support in helping the company’s Fire Training Center obtain official accreditation from the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC).

Al-Mutairi added that the Fire Training Center has graduated five batches of firefighters since its establishment, totalling nearly 250 personnel.

She congratulated the graduates and said the course represents a fundamental step in their professional journey.

Intersec Dubai 2026 hosts Sharjah and NFPA MoU signing

Sharjah Civil Defence Authority (SCDA) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to form a strategic alliance aimed at improving fire and life safety in the Emirate of Sharjah.

The the MoU was signed during an official ceremony held at Intersec Dubai 2026.

The agreement was signed by His Excellency Brigadier Yousif Obaid Al Shamsi, Director General of Sharjah Civil Defence Authority, and Jim Pauley, president and CEO at the NFPA.

The alliance is intended to prioritise education and training programmes for fire and life safety professionals across the Emirate.

The collaboration will draw on the NFPA’s training resources and certification programmes, its more than 300 fire codes and standards, and the NFPA Fire and Life Safety Ecosystem.

These elements are expected to support the creation and refinement of safety standards tailored to Sharjah’s requirements.

Training programmes and high rise building risk

Al Shamsi said: “At Sharjah Civil Defence Authority, fire and life safety are paramount, and we remain committed to safeguarding the well-being of our people.

The announcement follows efforts in Sharjah focused on fire safety risks in high-rise buildings.

In 2024, under the directive of His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, the Emirate launched an initiative to replace hazardous cladding materials with fire-resistant alternatives, funded by the government and valued at AED 100 million.

The organisations said the alliance is intended to complement such initiatives through technical expertise and global best practices.

The MoU sets out the collaboration as focused on training, education, and the use of codes, standards, and regulations to support fire and life safety.

Hyrcanian UNESCO forests in Iran burning amid drought and complex terrain

Iran seeks aid for UNESCO forests

Iran has asked foreign governments to help contain a large wildfire in the Hyrcanian forests in northern Iran, after flames reignited in the UNESCO World Heritage-listed area in mid November.

Local media reported on Saturday 22 November 2025 that the fire has burned through the ancient forests for several days.

The blaze first broke out in early November, was temporarily brought under control and then reignited on 15 November, according to the official IRNA news agency.

The Hyrcanian forests run for around 1,000 kilometres along the Caspian Sea coast in Iran and into neighbouring Azerbaijan.

Mohammad Jafar Ghaempanah, Deputy to Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian, wrote on X that Iran had requested urgent assistance from friendly countries because domestic efforts could not keep the fire under control.

Hyrcanian forests and drought conditions

UNESCO recognised the Hyrcanian forests as a World Heritage Site in 2019.

The area is described as being between 25 and 50 million years old and containing more than 3,200 plant species.

UNESCO states that the forests include many rare and endemic tree species as well as relic and endangered plants.

The country is experiencing one of its most severe droughts in around six decades, according to the report.

Hossein Ali Mohammadi, Director General of crisis management for Mazandaran province, described the operation to extinguish the fire as “one of the most complex in recent years.”

Aerial firefighting support from Turkiye

Shina Ansari, Head of the Iranian Environmental Protection Organization, said two specialised water bomber aircraft, a helicopter and eight personnel will be dispatched from Turkiye.

Ansari explained on state television that Iran may also seek assistance from Russia if additional support is required.

The fire is affecting rocky terrain in the Elit area of Mazandaran province in northern Iran, where Tasnim news agency reported that hunters allegedly started the blaze.

Concerns over loss of ancient heritage

UN scientist and former Iranian environmental official Kaveh Madani commented on X about the impact of the fire on the forests.

Madani said: “Iranians are losing a natural heritage that is older than Persian civilization.”
