Allegion plans for The Fire Safety Event 2026

Allegion will present fire door hardware displays, live demonstrations and training information at The Fire Safety Event 2026 at the NEC in Birmingham from 28 to 30 April.

Allegion announced that its team will be based across stands 4/E90 and 4/F20 during the event.

At stand 4/E90, visitors will be able to view working door displays and live demonstrations showing how the company’s security, hardware and door control products operate within a fire door assembly.

The stand will also include practical guidance on tested and certified hardware for timber, steel and composite fire doors.

Products due to be shown include the Boss electromagnetic hold-open cam-action door closer, the fire-rated FinProtect Plus finger protection guards and the Zero International Drop Seal.

Allegion will also demonstrate Briton and Von Duprin panic and emergency exit hardware ranges.

Allegion training and competition at the NEC

At stand 4/F20, Allegion will provide fire door safety guidance and information on accredited practical training courses from Fire Door Maintenance (FDM).

The company is also running a competition linked to an on-stand fire door display.

Visitors who correctly identify faults on the display will be entered into a draw to win a free one-day accredited training course at the FDM training centre.

One winner will be drawn on each day of the event and can attend a course on a date of their choice.

FPA and FDM partner on fire safety standards

The Fire Protection Association (FPA) has announced a new partnership with FDM to provide fire safety training courses and qualification pathways across their UK sites.

The collaboration follows the FPA’s earlier announcement of its new Training and Education Centre (TEC) in Oxfordshire, which is set to open in January 2026.

According to the FPA, the TEC will offer learners an authentic and practical training environment supported by several industry partners, including FDM.

The organisation said that through this agreement, FPA learners will soon be able to complete FDM courses at the new site.

Partnership expands course availability and accreditation

FDM, which was named Training Provider of the Year at the 2025 Fire & Security Matters Awards, will provide several of its specialist courses at the TEC.

These include its Fire Door Installation and Fire Door Repair and Maintenance courses, along with the Fire Door Procurement training course and the Level 3 Diploma Qualification in Inspection of Fire Resistant Doorsets.

The FPA confirmed that these will be delivered under licence at the new facility.

Additionally, the collaboration will allow the FPA to deliver its Fire Risk Assessor qualifications at FDM’s training centre in Bury, Greater Manchester.

FDM named Fire Solution of the Year at London Construction Awards

FDM – Training & Development (FDM) has won the Fire Solution of the Year award at the 2025 London Construction Awards.

The company said the recognition reflects its commitment to improving competency across the fire door industry through structured, standards-led training.

The London Construction Awards celebrate innovation and achievement in the UK construction sector.

FDM noted that the award follows several recent successes, including being named Training Provider of the Year at the 2025 Fire & Security Matters Awards and Training Company of the Year at the 2024 National Fenestration Awards.

The company added that it has trained 1,200 professionals since opening in February 2024 and formed partnerships with 60 industry bodies.

Building standards and training since Grenfell

According to FDM, it was established to meet the rising demand for high-quality fire door training following the Grenfell Tower tragedy.

FDM launches new Level 3 Diploma in installation of fire resistant doorsets

Qualification launched to certify fire door installation competence

FDM – Training & Development (FDM) has launched the GQA Level 3 Diploma in Installation of Fire Resistant Doorsets.

The vocational qualification certifies individuals as competent installers of fire resistant doorsets.

It was developed with awarding body GQA Qualifications and training provider National Skills Centre.

The diploma includes 11 core units, four optional units and 226 guided learning hours.

FDM said the qualification provides 159 more guided learning hours and up to 12 additional units compared to its closest competitor.

The company confirmed it forms part of its “super series” of Level 3 Diplomas, following the Inspection of Fire Resistant Doorsets qualification launched earlier in 2025.

Course content focuses on skills, knowledge and behaviour

The diploma covers the practical skills, knowledge, experience and behaviours required for fire door installation.

It provides guidance on meeting legislative standards and completing installation checks and records.

Assessment content focuses on planning and carrying out installation, conducting checks and maintaining continuing professional development.

Learners install six types of fire resistant door made of materials including timber, composite and steel.

This range of door types is unique to the qualification, according to FDM.

Each learner is assessed onsite to demonstrate practical competence and ongoing performance in a workplace setting.

Industry collaboration supports qualification delivery

Since its launch in February 2024, FDM said it has educated more than 1,200 professionals across the supply chain on fire door safety best practice.

The company has received industry recognition, winning Training Provider of the Year at the 2025 Fire & Security Matters Awards and Training Company of the Year at the 2024 National Fenestration Awards.
