Royal Marine Hotel installs Advanced fire panels

The Royal Marine Hotel in County Dublin has upgraded its fire safety infrastructure through the installation of Advanced MxPro 5 fire panels.

TEE Fire Safety Solutions (TSS) published a case study detailing the replacement of the previous system to address reliability issues and frequent false alarms.

The hotel premises include guest rooms, restaurant areas, a spa, an underground car park and plant rooms.

Installation teams replaced five existing panels on a single day to maintain network continuity across the live hospitality environment.

The new configuration uses a combination of eight-loop, four-loop and two-loop MxPro 5 analogue addressable panels.

A fully functional repeater panel supports the network which contains 1,813 programmed devices across seven nodes.

Timmy England, Managing Director at TEE Fire Safety Solutions, said: “This was a live hotel environment where reliability and minimal disruption were essential.

The MxPro 5 allowed us to implement effective false alarm management while maintaining high safety standards, and replacing all networked panels in one day was a major advantage.”

False alarm management and future expansion

The project utilised the configuration capabilities of the MxPro 5 to establish a management strategy featuring specific verification and hold times.

TSS excluded manual call points, heat detectors and linear detection from these delays to ensure immediate response to genuine fire threats.

The programmed staged alarm strategy activates sounders for management and maintenance staff before escalating to a full evacuation.

The site uses standard network cards to link the panels and provides a platform for future scalability.

The hotel plans to add an additional single-loop panel to the network to accommodate a forthcoming extension.

Advanced gains Environmental Product Declaration for MxPro 5 4-loop panels

Advanced panels receive verified lifecycle declaration

MxPro 5 4 -oop fire alarm control panels from Advanced now hold an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), with independently verified data covering environmental impact across the full product lifecycle.

Advanced announced the declaration on 16 March 2026, stating that it was issued in accordance with EN 15804:2012+A2:2019 and ISO 14044/14025, and verified by BRE Global.

The EPD provides standardised environmental performance data for use in sustainability-focused specification and whole building assessment.

It was developed using a life cycle assessment (LCA) and presents cradle to grave data for the MxPro 5 4 loop panels, including carbon footprint and other impact indicators.

The declaration is intended to help consultants, designers and building owners assess how fire safety systems contribute to the environmental performance of a building or infrastructure project.

Advanced EPD covers full panel range

According to Advanced, the declaration applies across the full range of MxPro 5 4-loop panel configurations, including standard and deep enclosure formats, cross listed variants and Axis EN software variants.

The company said this means consistent environmental data is available across different configurations and compliance requirements.

The assessment is also being used to identify where environmental impacts occur across the product lifecycle.

That information is being used to inform product development, material selection and manufacturing efficiency, as well as energy use during operation.

Advanced said the EPD is valid for five years and will remain in force until March 2031, subject to the terms of the BRE Global verification scheme.

The company also said the MxPro 5 range was developed for longevity, flexibility and upgradeability to help extend system life and reduce waste over time.

Euralarm issues Battery Regulation guidance on classifying safety system standby batteries

An updated position paper has set out how standby batteries used in fire, life safety and security systems should be classified under the EU Battery Regulation.

Euralarm published the document on Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 for Market Surveillance Authorities and industry stakeholders.

The paper says the Regulation categorises batteries by intended design and use, rather than by chemistry.

It states that batteries used as secondary or standby power sources in fire and security control panels, power supply units and alarm transmitters should be considered industrial batteries by design and intended use, including batteries that weigh less than 5 kg.

Industrial classification and regulatory scope

In its position paper, Euralarm sets out its interpretation of industrial use for standby and secondary power batteries in fire, life safety and security panels.

It links this interpretation to recital 15, which it reads as covering batteries used for emergency power, energy distribution and communication infrastructure.

It describes standby or secondary batteries in fire alarm panels as functioning as emergency power sources that distribute stored electrical energy during power failures.

It says this use aligns with the Regulation’s understanding of industrial batteries.

It also points to guidance from the European WEEE Registers Network, which classifies batteries for alarm systems in business-to-business contexts as industrial.

It cites the harmonised standard EN 54-4 for fire detection and alarm system power supply units as relevant to how these batteries are specified and used.

It adds that the German Federal Ministry for the Environment supports this interpretation of industrial use.

On this basis, it states these standby batteries are not subject to the substance restrictions in Article 6(1) and Annex I number 3 that apply to portable batteries.

Installed base, replacement cycles and availability

The position paper discusses the impact on existing fire and security systems across Europe.

It notes that systems can remain in service for several decades, with backup batteries typically replaced every four to seven years.

It states that continued availability of the specified battery types is needed to maintain certified performance, reliability and safety for existing installations.

It also acknowledges that demand for smaller batteries could decline, with potential impacts on price and supply.

The document frames its guidance around maintaining market availability and consistent interpretation for safety-critical applications.

Bosch introduces next-generation Avenar fire alarm panels in the Middle East

The new generation of fire alarm panels enhances the fire safety of buildings and supports the transformation of building technologies driven by the Internet of Things (IoT). Fully backwards compatible with current fire alarm system components, the new Avenar panel 2000 and 8000 series presents significant improvements in terms of scalability, integration, and processing power. Based on extensive customer feedback, this latest generation of fire alarm panels continues the Bosch legacy of innovation in fire safety systems. The new Avenar panel 2000 replaces the Fire Panel 1200 Series from Bosch as the key solution for smaller projects. It supports up to four loops instead of the previous two, thereby extending the applications from small projects to medium projects with up to 512 detectors and call points. The new Avenar 2000 panels can connect to a panel network, allowing customers to distribute the intelligence of the fire system in the building while saving cabling costs. Furthermore, the new Avenar panel 2000 simplifies the planning and purchasing process for system integrators, as it comes as a complete fire alarm panel kit, expandable in modular fashion.

For larger-scale installations, the Avenar panel 8000, the successor of the Modular Fire Panel 5000 Series, allows for up to 32 loops and a total of up to 4096 detectors and call points per panel.

Both panels support the current generation of fire detectors based on Local Security Network (LSNi) connections, as well as call stations and other critical system components. The new panels can be installed alongside existing network architectures such as the Modular Fire Panel 5000 Series from Bosch. The possibility to build one common network around Avenar panel 2000 and 8000 as well as Avenar keypad 8000 and Modular Fire Panel 5000 Series enhances network efficiency and utilizes the backward compatibility. It also limits costs for extensions and retrofits to a minimum.

Modular system built for scalability and connectivity

Both panels support an Ethernet architecture with fast 100Mbit connectivity. Four external Ethernet ports are available to link Bosch fire panels and Bosch voice alarm systems on a network, connect to building management systems or other safety systems and also enable remote services for cloud-based control and maintenance.

Fully controllable via graphic user interface (GUI) directly on fire panel

As a technical novelty, the eMatrix graphic user interface (GUI) offers full control via a 7-inch screen. The intuitive interface provides a clear status overview of connected fire protection equipment and evacuation zones. eMatrix also controls voice alarm, door control as well as HVAC (heating, ventilation and airconditioning). It enables safety managers to optimize protection by monitoring automatically triggered evacuations and offers the possibility to interfere manually when required.
