The Collapsible Spill Berm ECCOTARP helps contain hazardous substances after traffic accidents, during liquid transfer operations, and in many other emergency situations.

The berm features a flexible design, allowing easy deployment in confined spaces or around obstacles, and is made from chemically resistant material. Integrated manipulation straps make handling the filled berm easier, with a load capacity of up to 200 kg.

The berm is available in many size options. Larger models from the ECCOTARP range can also be used as decontamination stations.

Eccotarp introduces Foldable Drain Cover for spill response and environmental protection

The Foldable Drain Cover (FDC) developed by Eccotarp is designed to help prevent hazardous liquids from entering drainage systems during spill incidents and environmental protection emergencies.

According to the manufacturer, the product is intended for rapid deployment on steel and horizontal plastic drain grates, including those with side inlets or gullies. It is used in spill response situations to help contain liquids at the source and reduce the risk of environmental contamination.

The drain cover is described as foldable, reusable and chemically resistant, and is designed to be applied directly onto a cleaned drain surface with a flexible sealing membrane that uses pressure differences to help improve contact with uneven surfaces.

Eccotarp states that the product is suitable for use across a range of applications, including emergency response operations and industrial environments, and can be deployed on different types of drainage systems.

The Foldable Drain Cover is made from a combination of flexible magnetic and chemical-resistant foil materials and is designed to be compact for transport and storage, allowing it to be carried and deployed when required in spill situations.

The company says the product is part of its wider range of spill containment solutions used to support emergency responders and industry in managing accidental releases of hazardous substances.

The company is showcasing the Foldable Drain Cover at Booth E13, Hall 17, where it will be available for demonstration to visitors and industry professionals.

New Sharjah safety committee targets warehouse fire risk and compliance

Safety inspections approved for Sharjah warehouses

Sharjah has approved a specialised committee to inspect commercial and industrial warehouses across the emirate and address violations linked to safety compliance and fire risk.

Gulf News reported that the decision was taken during a meeting of the Executive Council of Sharjah chaired by Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Deputy Chairman of the Executive Council, and attended by Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of the Executive Council.

The committee will carry out comprehensive inspection campaigns covering all commercial and industrial warehouses.

Its role includes assessing compliance with safety and security standards.

It will also oversee corrective measures and enforce preventive procedures aimed at reducing fire incidents.

Committee membership and enforcement powers

Sharjah Police will lead the committee.

It will include representatives from the Civil Defence Authority, Department of Town Planning and Survey, Sharjah Economic Development Department and Sharjah Electricity, Water and Gas Authority.

The council said stricter penalties will apply to violators.

This includes those failing to meet regulations on the storage of hazardous and flammable materials.

Other decisions from the council meeting

The same meeting also approved a new framework regulating media activities in the emirate.

Entities engaged in media-related work will be required to obtain prior approval from the Sharjah Media Council, which will also receive revenues from related fees and violations.

CHEMTREC awards three volunteer fire departments $10,000 each

CHEMTREC, in partnership with the National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC), has announced three NVFC members will be awarded $10,000 each through the 2022 CHEMTREC Hazmat Emergencies Local Preparedness (HELP) Award.

Launched in 2019, the award aims to help volunteer fire departments enhance preparedness and strengthen response capabilities as it relates to hazmat events. To date it has provided a total of $115,000 to 12 departments to support their hazmat response efforts. This year’s recipients are: Genoa Volunteer Fire Department (Texarkana, AR), Gilt Edge (TN) Volunteer Fire Department and West Hancock Fire Rescue (Pearlington, MS).

Genoa Volunteer Fire Department is an all-volunteer department located in southwest Arkansas dedicated to taking care of its expanding rural community. Most recently, the town saw the derailment of eight railcars and several hazmat fires involving 18-wheelers. Its volunteer firefighters need additional training and equipment to handle these potentially devastating situations.

With the CHEMTREC HELP Award, the department will bring hazmat training to its district and train volunteers on how to better respond to potential hazmat incidents. It also plans to purchase the necessary personal protection equipment, kits, and a decontamination station.

The volunteers of the Gilt Edge Volunteer Fire Department advocates of hazmat preparedness. The town faces hazmat threats on the roads, in their farms, and on the water: pesticide and fuel spills occur on land, chlorine and ammonia are used in large quantities nearby, and large river barges pass through carrying hazardous materials.

The department has planned to use the CHEMTREC HELP Award to purchase an enclosed trailer to haul its hazmat equipment, as well other supplies such as absorbent pads, overpack drums, and decontamination equipment.

West Hancock Fire Rescue is a tight-knit community in southern Mississippi which faces hazmat threats daily and responds to an average of 300 hazmat calls annually. The volunteer-run fire department is responsible for miles of an interstate highway that sees motor vehicle accidents involving semi-trucks with chemical and fuel spills. Additionally, it provides primary fire and hazmat response for a nearby industrial park.

The department said that it plans to use the CHEMTREC HELP Award to further hazmat training initiatives for its personnel and purchase up-to-date hazmat gear and supplies. Its ultimate goal is to provide on-site coverage for the aforementioned industrial park.
