Kidde introduces FIREX Sentry to cut installation time

Kidde has launched the FIREX Sentry range.

According to the company, the new family of mains-powered smoke and heat alarms have been developed to help installers complete jobs faster while achieving a cleaner, more professional finish.

Sentry range

Built on the established Kidde FIREX hardwired platform, the Sentry range has been designed to simplify both new installations and replacement projects, addressing common challenges faced on site.

The company highlighted that a key feature of the range is a new slide-on Quick-Fit base, which aligns with standard back box fixing points to reduce the need for re-drilling and speed up installation.

A larger, flared base plate helps cover marks left by previous alarms, supporting a cleaner retrofit finish, while integrated cable management enables quicker and more consistent wiring.

The range is fully compatible with existing Kidde FIREX hardwired systems, allowing seamless interconnection with smoke, heat, and carbon monoxide alarms for whole-property protection.

It is available in Grade D1 (rechargeable lithium back-up) and Grade D2 (replaceable battery back-up) configurations across four core models covering optical smoke and heat detection.

“Sentry is the result”

Maciej Gruszecki, Associate Director of Product Management from Kidde commented: “We spoke directly to installers about what slows them down on site.

“Sentry is the result – a range designed to reduce installation time, simplify replacements and deliver a cleaner finish without changing the trusted FIREX system they already know.”

The launch

The company said that launch comes as demand for efficient, compliant fire safety solutions continue to grow across new build and refurbishment projects, where installation speed and consistency are key considerations for contractors and specifiers.

Hardwired D1/D2 alarms alarms are widely required under UK building regulations, with new build demand running at approximately 300,000 homes per year.

The Kidde FIREX Sentry range is now available through leading electrical wholesalers and distributor partners across the UK.

Kidde Europe launches campaign to elevate fire safety awareness among children

Kidde Europe has announced the launch of its ‘Cause for Alarm’ campaign.

This initiative, responding to the alarming statistic that children under five years old are at the highest risk of fire-related fatalities, aims to elevate fire safety awareness during European Fire Safety Week.

Addressing the high risk for children

The campaign was born out of the need to address the disproportionate impact of fatal house fires on certain communities.

Nearly half of all fire-related deaths among children aged 16 and under are children under five.

Kidde Europe, as part of Carrier Global Corporation, is at the forefront of promoting intelligent climate and energy solutions, and with this campaign, they are extending their commitment to fire safety education and support for families.

Creative approach to fire safety education

Recognising the need for an engaging educational approach, Kidde Europe has introduced the ‘Cause For Alarm’ jingle.

This tune is designed to help children and parents remember essential actions when a fire alarm sounds – “Beeps that last, Get out fast.”

Rebecca Cackett, European Channel Marketing Manager at Kidde, emphasised the importance of making fire safety a household priority to prevent devastating losses.

Importance of the Right Safety Products and Plans

The campaign also stresses the significance of selecting appropriate fire safety products and practicing family escape plans.

Despite the widespread ownership of functional smoke alarms, there is a concerning lack of regular testing, with 21% of surveyed individuals admitting to never testing their alarms.

Misconceptions and Rapid Spread of Fires

Highlighting the rapid spread of fires and common misconceptions, the campaign educates on the dangers of house fires, especially at night.

The toxic gases, like carbon monoxide, produced in such fires can incapacitate individuals quickly, underlining the critical role of working smoke alarms in providing crucial escape time.

Kidde’s Partnership and outreach

In the coming weeks, Kidde Europe plans to partner with influential figures to amplify the reach of the ‘Cause for Alarm’ campaign, targeting diverse audiences of all ages and backgrounds.

IFSJ Comment

The ‘Cause for Alarm’ campaign by Kidde Europe represents a significant step in addressing a critical aspect of fire safety: the vulnerability of children to fire hazards.

By focusing on educating and equipping families with the necessary knowledge and tools, Kidde is contributing to a vital cultural shift towards proactive fire safety practices.

The use of a memorable jingle to teach children about fire alarm response is an innovative approach that could substantially impact fire safety awareness.

The emphasis on regular testing of smoke alarms is also a crucial reminder of the often-overlooked aspects of fire safety.

This campaign aligns with the broader goals of enhancing fire safety awareness and preparedness, particularly among the most vulnerable populations.

It serves as a reminder of the ongoing need for education and awareness in fire safety, a commitment that is as urgent today as it has ever been.
