Small space suppression system launched by Fike

Fike Corporation, a global manufacturer and supplier of fire protection systems, has launched its latest product, Fike Small Space Suppression. This new technology uses a flexible pneumatic tube, which is strategically routed through small applications to detect and suppress fires at their source using 3MTM NovecTM 1230 Fire Protection Fluid.

Fike Small Space Suppression comes in two configurations: direct and indirect.

The direct system is engineered for electrical cabinets, as heat-reactive tubing is routed through the confined space. Any fires in the space will melt a hole in the tubing, which is pressurized with nitrogen and will open the suppression cylinder. Agent will then be released from the hole and directly onto the fire.

The indirect system is designed for CNC machines and uses heat-reactive tubing. However, rather than the agent flowing through the hole in the tubing, the agent will flow through UL-listed suppression nozzles for 3MTM NovecTM 1230 fluid.

The system is available in 1kg, 2kg, 4kg, 6kg, 9kg and 18kg cylinders to ensure the most cost-effective size is selected for the unique application. Each cylinder comes fitted with a proprietary valve designed specifically for Fike Small Space Suppression. The ball valve is integrated into a stainless-steel body to reliably deliver agent into the tubing network and prevent leaks.

Amos Leap, Fike Fire Suppression Product Manager commented: “We are excited to add Fike Small Space Suppression to our comprehensive line of fire protection products. This new system ensures hard-to-reach assets are protected 24/7 and supported with unmatched customer service and technical support for which Fike is known.”

Johnson Controls expands GRINNELL one-bolt coupling portfolio

Johnson Controls is expanding its GRINNELL G-Fire One-Bolt coupling product line by adding two new sizes: 1.25 and 1.5 inches. The new, smaller couplings will reportedly allow contractors to perform quicker installations on smaller diameter piping and in tight spaces. As part of the One-Bolt family, both couplings feature the unique, single-bolt design that eliminates alternate tightening while resulting in more consistent installations and dependable product performance.

“First launched in 2018, our GRINNELL One-Bolt coupling product line now offers more choices for contractors working on a wide variety of projects, from storage facilities to standard commercial projects,” said Dave Nelligan, global product manager at Johnson Controls. “By adding these two new sizes, our customers can now have a complete range of One-Bolt couplings where speed matters most.”

The One-Bolt couplings allow fast and easy push-on installation thanks to a pre-lubricated gasket and pre-assembled design. The couplings can be used in both vertical and horizontal applications across wet, dry and freezer systems. They feature 360-degree contact for an exceptionally rigid joint and a grooved, rigid coupling design to make joining pipe faster and easier.

A low-profile spine allows for installation in tighter spaces and a centre-stop gasket ensures proper positioning on pipe. The couplings are UL/ULC Listed and FM Approved, with a pressure rating of up to 365 psi.

3M Scott releases new ‘face of firefighting’

3M Scott Fire & Safety has announced the “new face of firefighting” with the 3M Scott Vision C5 Facepiece with E-Z Flo C5 Regulator. Designed using a platform approach, the new facepiece incorporates the latest technology to enhance situational intelligence, while providing a customisable solution to meet the changing needs of today’s firefighter.

“Firefighters go into situations that many people cannot imagine. We want to give them every advantage we can, so we work directly with firefighters to understand the challenges they face,” said Andrew P. Johnson, global product marketer for NFPA SCBA.

“Together, we were able to translate those challenges into product requirements, resulting in the improved comfort, wider field of vision and enhanced breathability you now get with the Vision C5 facepiece and E-Z Flo C5 regulator.”

The Vision C5 facepiece operates with compatible 3M™ Scott™ Air-Pak™ SCBA, including the latest Air-Pak X3 Pro, compliant to the NFPA 1981, 2018 Edition standard. A wider field of view helps to improve situational intelligence and a single reflex face seal provides a more comfortable fit and greater ease when donning the facepiece.

Expanding on the cleanability benefits of the Air-Pak X3 Pro, the Vision C5 offers a re-designed head harness enabling easy removal, without the use of tools, and simplifying the process of machine laundering to assist firefighters with exposure reduction efforts.

Complementary to the new facepiece, the E-Z Flo C5 regulator builds upon the proven design of the E-Z Flo+ with enhancements to key performance areas. Enhanced breathability helps reduce user burden and improve operational efficiencies, while a reduced frequency Vibralert End-of-ServiceTime Indicator (EOSTI) improves two-way radio communications.

The heads-up display (HUD) has been recessed into the regulator, with additional icons to provide visual alerts when paired with the Air-Pak X3 Pro SCBA configured with the SEMS II Pro Wireless SCBA Telemetry System. A simple, yet noticeable change is the incorporation of an auto air-saver switch to simplify operation and help prevent inadvertent air loss when the regulator is removed.

QTAC unveils the adaptable and modular SRT storage skid

QTAC™, has released the SRT, a modular, fully enclosed tank, pump and storage skid for UTVs. The QTAC SRT’s durable PolyTough™ construction will reportedly never rust, dent or crack, and its light weight means that the SRT is compatible with any UTV with a 1,000-pound or greater bed capacity.

“We had received numerous requests for an all-weather UTV skid,” says QTAC President, Jason Black, “and almost every one of our customers is looking for additional storage on their UTVs. The SRT addresses both of these needs in a modular configuration that is unique in the industry.”

The SRT comes with a 40-, 50- or 60-gallon water tank, and is available with either a medium pressure pump or high pressure Waterax Versax® 6. The pump, plumbing and electric Hannay hose reel are accessible through the rear AMDOR roll-up door, and kept out of the elements in a welded copolymer enclosure. Adjustable rails on the side of the pump enclosure allow storage boxes or hose trays to be mounted at various heights to accommodate different UTV bed sides.

“Each SRT PolyTough side storage box has over six cubic feet of interior space, and the hinges and recessed gas shocks keep the entire door design clean and low profile,” continues Black.

“One of the key features of the SRT side boxes is that they don’t require any drilling in the UTV’s stock bed. Additionally, a customer can order the tank and pump enclosure without side boxes or use one storage box and one bolt-on hose tray. The SRT’s design is meant to give customers the flexibility needed to adapt the UTV to their specific requirements.”
