Dependable and specialised: Hannay Reels F7100 hose reel

Fighting fires requires dependable and specialised equipment – the F7100 hose reel from Hannay Reels features two swivel joint inlets and two outlet risers that allow the reel to be used for foam and dry chemicals simultaneously.

A reel neatly stores your hose or cable to ensure it’s readily available wherever and whenever it’s needed—no tangles, no leaks, and no problems. In addition, a reel keeps your hose or cable off of the floor to avoid tripping and other workplace accidents that may cause work stoppage or costly insurance issues.

It will also lengthen the life of expensive hose and cable. Constant dragging or kinking can damage hose to the point where it becomes un-useable. Shorts in electric cable or leaks in hose can lead to environmental issues and other problems.

Hannay Reels’ F7100 hose reel features:

  • Two swivel joint inlets and two outlet risers.
  • All models are available with optional aluminum or stainless steel construction.
  • Gear-driven crank rewind is standard. Choose chain and sprocket drive powered by electric, hydraulic or compressed air motor.
  • Pinion brake standard.
  • Standard inlet, outlet riser, and hub assembly are steel (also available in stainless steel).
  • Rollers and roller mounting brackets are accessory items. Specify roller position.
  • Standard inlets: 1″ 90° ball bearing swivel joints with 1″ female NPT threads.
  • Standard outlets: 1″ male NST threads (1.375″ x 8 threads per inch).
  • Pressures to 1000 psi (69 bar).
  • Temperatures from -25°F to +250°F (-32°C to+121°C).
  • Consult factory for other sizes and/or threads.
  • Consult factory for other pressures and temperatures.
  • CAUTION: When using Niedner Reeltex® hose, a special riser and/or larger drum diameter is required (consult factory).

SAM transforms traditional fire truck pump operations

SAM manages multiple lines at different pressures and maintains set pressures. It also monitors intake pressure too and switches back to tank if there are any interruptions in the supply lines. After water supply is established, the system automatically refills the tank so it is always full. If there is an issue with the supply lines, SAM will switch back to tank and alert the operator so the issue can be addressed.

SAM will:

  • Maintain set pressure on all active lines
  • Re-fill the tank
  • Monitors intake pressure and switches to tank if intake is lost
  • Keeps the pump cool
  • Alert you if there is a problem with water flow or equipment

The saved presets in the SAM interface allow pump operators to set discharge pressures fast. Even before charging lines, the system automatically opens the tank to pump valve so water is in the pump and it’s ready to go.

With one swipe, SAM:

  • Charges first line to preset pressures
  • Maintains set pressures for each discharge

SAM is an integrated total water control system that manages the truck’s pump, tank, intakes and discharges. The SAM system replaces the pressure governor and takes care of opening and closing valves based on operator settings. Instead of a complex fire truck pump panel, firefighters can have all of the pump controls in a 10″ touch-screen display.

TFT releases new working Fire Nozzle

The new TFT Working Fire nozzle reportedly delivers revolutionary performance when you need maximum flows for a “working fire.” For every day use, it is a true 150 gpm @ 75 psi Fixed GPM Nozzle, but when you need even more GPM, the nozzle’s exclusive pressure relief system dramatically limits nozzle reaction.

When you achieve the 150gpm rate, the nozzle flows great, and there is about 65lbs of nozzle reaction force. However, when you need a lot more GPM, that is where the Working Fire excels.

By integrating TFT’s exclusive pressure relief, a 33% increase in flow rates only yields a 33% increase in reaction force. Compare that to a traditional fixed nozzle, which increases 78%. With the Working Fire nozzle, TFT is able to deliver high GPM (200 gpm) with reportedly 30lbs less reaction force than other nozzles.

The Working Fire is available in a break-apart or integrated, stainless steel ball valve configuration. Pistol grips, bail handles, and stream shaper are available in colours and spinning teeth are an option. The nozzle has a rugged, black hard coat finish with a black reflective Scotchlite trim. There is a tactile indicator and detent for straight stream that prevents unintended rotation into other streams.

Sea-Fire launches new MN-Series NOVEC 1230 fire suppression system

Sea-Fire Marine has introduced the first US Coast Guard-approved 3M™ Novec™ 1230 engineered fire suppression system available at 725 psi (50 bar). The new fully customisable MN-Series provides greater flexibility when designing or retrofitting a vessel’s fire suppression system and is ideal for commercial or recreational vessels up to 300′.

The primary benefit of the Sea-Fire MN-Series is the ability to employ the system into almost any vessel layout. The increased psi allows for longer pipe runs, meaning the tanks can be located away from the protected space and still provide for multi-zone applications. The cylinders themselves are 10″ or 16″ in diameter for a reduced footprint and the ability to fit through standard manholes.

According to the manufacturer, the seamless and welded cylinders are powder coated for corrosion resistance and have an integrated valve protection cap for shipping and servicing. They are refillable and meet US DOT, TC, TPED, UN and dual specification options.

Adding to the MN-Series’ versatility is its actuators. Electric solenoid, pneumatic and manual/pneumatic/cable versions are available to meet any application requirement.

As an engineered solution, the MN-Series is configured for the specific vessel and they are tested and approved in accordance with IMO/SOLAS requirements. In addition to USCG, the system additionally carries type approvals from ABS and FM Global.

Novec 1230 has a negligible global warming potential – electrically non-conductive and non-corrosive, it’s safe for human exposure without any reduction in fire extinguishing capabilities.

Johnson Controls launched TYCO pressure control valves for fire protection systems

Johnson Controls announces the launch of two new TYCO® pressure control valves for fire protection systems: the TYCO® Model RV-1A Pressure Relief Valve and the TYCO® Model PRV-1A Pressure Reducing Valve. The new valves offer simple, low-maintenance solutions for controlling and maintaining optimal water pressure within commercial fire protection systems.

The TYCO® RV-1A Pressure Relief Valve automatically relieves excess pressure in fire protection systems to maintain a relatively constant system pressure as flow demands change. Its simple design eliminates the need for users to bleed trapped air from the diaphragm chamber. The valve offers users a nominal relief “set pressure” range of 30 to 250 psi (2.1 to 17.2 bar).

The TYCO® PRV-1A Pressure Reducing Valve reduces a higher inlet pressure to a lower outlet delivery pressure in water-filled pipes. It automatically maintains the outlet “set pressure” (static and residual) within a close range, regardless of fluctuations in the higher-pressure inlet line or varying flow rates.

“We developed both valves using the same diaphragm design as the TYCO® DV-5A deluge valve, said Gijsbert van Rooijen, global product manager, Johnson Controls. “With a simple trim configuration and just one moving part, just like the DV-5A, these new valves provide optimal pressure control with minimal maintenance and dependable, consistent operation over time.”

The RV-1A and PRV-1A valves are UL and ULc Listed and FM Approved. Both valves are factory assembled and fully trimmed. They are available in sizes ranging from two inches to eight inches, with flange-by-flange and grooved-by-grooved end connection options.
