France hosts aerial firefighting summit in Bordeaux

Aerial Firefighting Magazine has published an overview of Aerial Fire Fighting Europe 2025 which place in Bordeaux, France, on 26–27 March.

The event, hosted by the General Directorate of Civil Security and Crisis Management and organised by Tangent Link, brought together stakeholders from across the aerial firefighting sector.

Delegates included national civil protection agencies, air forces and ministries of defence, alongside manufacturers and service providers in the aerial firefighting sector.

The event showcased new aircraft and equipment and included presentations on operational tactics, fleet developments and interagency collaboration.

Spain and France detail fleet expansion and upgrade programmes

The Spanish Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Spanish Air Force presented current and future capabilities, including plans to modernise the CL-215T fleet and acquire seven new DHC-515 amphibious aircraft.

Spain’s €375 million programme was announced in April 2024 and two of the aircraft will be procured via the European Civil Protection Mechanism.

France’s Sécurité Civile, meanwhile, is scheduled to receive two DHC-515s as part of an order of 22 across several countries, with deliveries beginning in 2028.

Speakers also highlighted lessons from international deployments, referencing the 2022 Bordeaux wildfires which drew assistance from Greek, Italian and Romanian firefighting assets.

Industry unveils new Type-II and Type-III air tankers

Four new aerial firefighting aircraft were introduced during the conference: the Metrea FireSwift, Kepplair Evolution KE-72, Positive Aviation FF-72 and 19-01 Holding WF-X Waterfall.

Metrea Aero’s FireSwift, based on the Dash 8-300, offers a 5,700-litre capacity and is equipped for night operations with EO/IR sensors and satellite communications.

The KE-72 ‘Forest Keeper’, based on the ATR-72, features removable tanks and freight capability, aiming for reduced operational costs and multifunctional use.

Positive Aviation’s FF-72 adds amphibious capability to the ATR-72 platform and exceeds the water capacity and engine power of legacy aircraft like the CL-415.

The WF-X Waterfall, a Type-I tanker under development by 19-01 Holding, is designed for both firefighting and maritime operations with a projected capacity of 12 tons.

Global collaboration in aerial firefighting strategy and innovation

Speakers from the United States, Germany and Greece shared operational strategies and domestic challenges in aerial firefighting.

Chris Siok and Mike Sagely from the Los Angeles County Fire Department briefed on wildfire response protocols and aircraft use in California.

Bavarian officials discussed firefighting in forests affected by munitions contamination and compared rotary and fixed-wing aircraft performance.

The Hellenic Fire Service announced an expansion of its helicopter fleet, with eight new H215s scheduled for delivery between 2026 and 2028.

French firms including Safran, AgroDrone and Airbus Helicopters also presented airborne surveillance, drone-based detection, and helicopter firefighting technologies.

The Tall Buildings Network has announced that its first High Rise Fire Safety Conference in Australia will take place in Sydney.

The programme is nearing completion and the organisers are continuing to welcome presentation proposals.

2025 fire safety management training course dates released

Tall Buildings’ five-day ‘Tall Building Fire Safety Management’ training course is open for registration across four dates and locations in 2025.

The course will be held in Cyprus from 26–30 May. It will then run in London across three dates: 23–27 June, 15–19 September and 6–10 October.

This qualification is aimed at professionals managing fire risk in tall structures. It is one of the Network’s longest-running training programmes.

Tall Buildings Network announces 2025 fire safety conferences in UK, US and Australia: Summary

The Tall Buildings / High Rise Fire Safety Network has confirmed that presentations from its recent US-based High Rise Fire Safety Conference will be available in its free online archive.

The Network will hold its next Tall Building HRB Conference in London on 18–19 June 2025. Booking is now open.

It will also host its first Australian High Rise Fire Safety Conference in Sydney. The programme is being finalised and speaker submissions are still being accepted.

Tall Buildings is running its five-day Tall Building Fire Safety Management course on four occasions in 2025. Locations include Cyprus in May, and London in June, September and October.

The Cygnus Mesh Analyser supports system commissioning and maintenance by mapping the wireless network’s structure and signal strength.

The SITENET system can also be linked with the Cygnus ALERT notification platform for remote event monitoring.

SITEPROTECT system includes lockdown alarms for public spaces

Bull Products will also display SITEPROTECT, its wireless fire, first aid, lockdown and intruder alarm system.

The company said the SITEPROTECT Lockdown system is primarily designed for the education sector but can be used in other large public venues such as shopping centres.

The system uses wireless mesh communication to link remote devices and a central control panel.

According to Bull Products, the lockdown system alerts designated staff when activated, helping to locate the incident and notify emergency services.

Conference invites global participation on fire safety and community protection

The International Association of Wildland Fire has opened the call for presentation proposals for the 2025 International Wildland Fire Safety Summit and Human Dimensions of Wildland Fire Conference.

Scheduled to take place from Monday 20 October to Thursday 23 October 2025, the event will bring together fire management agencies, Indigenous knowledge holders, scientists, and practitioners to share insights on wildland fire through the lens of safety, risk, and community resilience.

The submission deadline for proposals is 31 May 2025.

The Association stated that the event aims to support knowledge exchange through a variety of formats, including keynotes, panels, and alternative session types intended to promote discussion.

Conference to focus on misinformation, health impacts, and governance

The 2025 programme will explore six subthemes connected to the impact and management of wildland fires.

These include wildfire-related misinformation, the health effects of smoke exposure, changes in fire regimes and risk acceptance, community planning and recovery, Indigenous and local fire governance, and educational strategies for future preparedness.

Sessions will address impacts on both people and the environment, with organisers encouraging a focus on practical experiences and lessons learned.

Proposals should clearly identify the issue, research, or experience being presented and are limited to 350 words.

Presentation formats to support structured knowledge-sharing

Several types of presentation formats are available to encourage a wide range of contributions.

Traditional PowerPoint and poster sessions will run alongside knowledge sharing circles and rotating conversation cafés.

Other options include lightning rounds centred around a single image to support accessible, mixed-media formats.

The Association stated that each session type is designed to encourage both structured delivery and audience engagement: “The knowledge sharing circles format is based on this model by Liberating Structures.”

Co-speakers and co-authors can be included in submissions and participants must indicate their preferred format when applying.

Participation open to diverse fire and forestry professionals

Wildland fire and natural resource professionals, students, Indigenous practitioners, and residents of fire-prone regions are all encouraged to submit.

Submissions are open to those with lived experience, academic or field knowledge, or a professional interest in the conference subthemes.

According to the Association, presentations that draw from real-world insights and community-led approaches are welcomed: “We welcome and encourage working firefighters, Indigenous practitioners, and residents of wildland fire prone areas to submit and share their experiences.”

Proposals can be reviewed and edited before being made public and must include consent information if presenting Indigenous knowledge.

Bull Products to display SITEGATE, SITENET and SITEPROTECT in Birmingham

Bull Products has announced it will showcase a wide range of fire safety, site safety and access control systems at the Fire Safety Event 2025.

The company will present its SITEGATE, SITENET and SITEPROTECT systems, along with the Cygnus ALERT platform and Fire 360° service.
