Magirus confirms service continuity after ending exclusive Alpha Robotics agreement

Magirus restructures portfolio and partnership focus

Magirus has announced that it will restructure its product portfolio and end its exclusive partnership with Alpha Robotics in November 2025 as part of its transformation plan, while keeping existing contracts and service commitments in place.

According to the company, the change follows the transformation programme it presented in May 2025.

Magirus stated that it is realigning its offering with a clear focus on customer needs and on its role as a technology provider for fire and civil protection services.

Alpha Robotics will continue to develop its own product portfolio as part of the new arrangement.

Both companies have agreed that their cooperation will move from an exclusive partnership to an open, collaborative relationship.

They indicated that joint work on remotely operated systems for emergency services will continue under this revised framework.

The exclusive agreement, which has been in place since 2021, will formally conclude in November 2025.

Intelligent Firefighting Technology work to date

Magirus said the original exclusive agreement with Alpha Robotics formed part of a broader strategy to build the field of Intelligent Firefighting Technology (IFT).

The shared aim was to develop connected, remotely operated systems for firefighting, disaster response and rescue operations.

The companies highlighted joint developments such as the vehicle control unit (VCU) integrated with the Magirus Wolf R1 and Wolf C1 tactical response robots.

Magirus reported that the collaboration has driven technical advances and has influenced how intelligent systems are applied in operational settings.

The firm described the partnership as having made a long term contribution to the industry.

Fatmir Veselaj, CEO of Magirus, said: “We would like to thank Alpha Robotics – especially Managing Director Oliver Rasche – for the dedicated and trust-based cooperation.

“Our joint developments have played a key role in shaping our vision of connected, intelligent firefighting technology,

“Concluding the exclusivity agreement is a joint decision made in full mutual agreement and forms part of our strategic realignment.”

Magirus pointed to recent joint projects, including work with the Groß-Gerau Fire Department, as examples of the collaboration’s current focus on operational use cases.

The company said future cooperation will continue with a stronger emphasis on market requirements and customer expectations.

Ensuring continuity for contracts and service

Magirus confirmed that ending the exclusive agreement will not affect any existing customer contracts.

The company stated that all contractual obligations for jointly developed and delivered products will continue to be met without restriction.

According to Magirus, ongoing projects with Alpha Robotics will proceed as planned under the new non exclusive framework.

Both firms said that service and spare parts support for equipment developed through the partnership will remain fully available.

Magirus added that it will provide uninterrupted customer care and technical support for affected products.

The company framed the change as part of a broader strategic shift rather than a withdrawal from robotics or intelligent system applications.

It reiterated that supporting emergency services with functional, intuitive and reliable technologies remains a core objective.

Operational relevance of Magirus robotics strategy

Fire and rescue chiefs who already operate Magirus Wolf R1 and Wolf C1 tactical response robots can see that the change of partnership model is not expected to alter contract delivery or service support.

Procurement officers responsible for specifying remotely operated systems gain clarity that Magirus and Alpha Robotics will maintain full spare parts availability and technical assistance for jointly developed platforms.

Emergency and disaster response managers using intelligent robotics for hazardous area operations can factor in that future developments will continue under a non exclusive collaboration with a stated focus on market and customer needs.

Eduardo Palacio Hasson, General Manager/President of ATEPSA, said: “ATEPSA has proudly represented Oshkosh in Mexico for over two decades, and we are thrilled to support Guadalajara International Airport with this new Striker ARFF.

“Our close proximity to the airport and expanded service facilities in Guadalajara ensure we can deliver the immediate support and spare parts necessary to keep these vehicles mission ready.”

Operational relevance for airport rescue planners

The order of a new Striker 6×6 aircraft rescue and firefighting vehicle for Guadalajara International Airport provides a current example of how major airports are renewing and standardising ARFF fleets.

For airport and mass transit facility managers, the focus on a fully Oshkosh-equipped fleet at Guadalajara International Airport shows how a common platform can be used to manage training, maintenance and response planning across multiple vehicle types.

For procurement officers and equipment specifiers, the detailed configuration of the Striker 6×6, including the Eco-EFP foam system, Scania DC16 670 HP engine and 1,250 GPM bumper and roof turrets, illustrates the performance and environmental criteria being applied to new ARFF vehicles.

Training officers and instructors may note the inclusion of on-site commissioning and operator training by Oshkosh Airport Products’ International Field Service Representatives as part of the delivery package.

For fire engineering consultants and risk assessors working with airports, the presence of dual agent capability, regulated handlines and onboard power generation demonstrates how vehicle specifications are being aligned with complex fire scenarios on runways, taxiways and surrounding terrain.

Lawsuits claim fire truck prices doubled amid industry collusion

Fire truck manufacturers face multiple antitrust lawsuits

Oshkosh, REV Group and Rosenbauer America are facing multiple class action lawsuits in the United States alleging a coordinated effort to inflate the price of fire trucks sold to municipalities.

Reuters reported that the latest case was filed on Friday 31 October by Newstead Fire Company in the Eastern District of Wisconsin, where two similar lawsuits are already pending.

Earlier complaints were lodged by the City of La Crosse, Wisconsin, and by Augusta, Maine, both naming the same defendants alongside the Fire Apparatus Manufacturers’ Association (FAMA).

The cases accuse the manufacturers of colluding through FAMA to exchange confidential economic data, limit production and raise prices in violation of federal antitrust law.

A federal judge has paused the litigation for sixty days to allow coordination among plaintiffs, with further filings expected.

Claims point to price rises and production limits

The lawsuits state that fire truck prices have doubled since 2015, with pumper trucks now averaging $1 million and ladder trucks exceeding $2 million.

Municipalities have reportedly been forced to keep ageing fleets in service longer, increasing maintenance costs and operational risks.

Plaintiffs argue that the manufacturers, which collectively control up to 80% of the US fire truck market, used their dominance to suppress supply and sustain elevated prices.

The complaints also cite “floating price” clauses that allowed suppliers to increase costs after orders were placed, adding further pressure on local budgets.

Companies and trade association deny wrongdoing

Oshkosh, REV Group and Rosenbauer America have each denied the allegations.

All three companies described the claims as meritless and said they were continuing normal operations.

Oshkosh stated that it was reinvesting in US facilities to meet record demand for new vehicles.

FAMA did not respond to Reuters’ request for comment.

Federal scrutiny and political attention

In April, Senators Jim Banks and Elizabeth Warren said consolidation driven by private equity investment had contributed to higher prices and longer delivery times across the US fire truck market.

They referenced a series of acquisitions of smaller manufacturers by private equity firm American Industrial Partners since 2006.

In May, the International Association of Fire Fighters urged the Department of Justice and the Federal Trade Commission to investigate competition issues within the fire apparatus sector.

The agencies have not commented publicly on any ongoing reviews.

Allegations detailed in Newstead complaint

The Newstead Fire Company complaint alleges that Oshkosh, REV Group, Rosenbauer America and FAMA engaged in a long-term price-fixing conspiracy beginning in 2016.

It claims the defendants used FAMA’s internal data reports and meetings to coordinate output and monitor competitors’ pricing decisions.

The suit seeks treble damages, legal costs and a permanent injunction against the alleged practices.

The filing also states that delivery delays have reached more than four years in some areas and that the resulting financial strain has diverted public funds from other safety priorities.

Relevance for fire and safety professionals

Procurement officers and fire chiefs responsible for vehicle acquisition could face direct implications if the alleged price-fixing is proven.

Extended delivery times and higher costs for new apparatus may affect fleet renewal planning, compliance with modern safety standards and equipment reliability during operations.

Budget managers in municipal and industrial fire services may need to reassess procurement schedules if litigation outcomes influence contract pricing or supply availability.

Manufacturers, distributors and trade bodies involved in the production or sale of emergency vehicles will be observing the case closely for potential changes to data-sharing and antitrust compliance practices across the wider sector.
