James Morrison, Regional Sales Manager at Hochiki Middle East FZE, explains how advanced certification, rigorous testing, and regional expertise are shaping dependable life safety solutions
In a region where ambitious construction, extreme climates, and evolving safety codes intersect, choosing the right fire detection partner is critical.
For consultants and end users tasked with delivering compliant, future-proof, and reliable life safety systems, the challenge goes beyond product selection.
It requires a manufacturer with deep technical integrity, flexible certification pathways, and a single-minded commitment to fire safety.
Hochiki is that manufacturer.
With over a century of global expertise and an unrelenting focus on fire detection, Hochiki has earned its place as a trusted name across commercial, healthcare, education, and life critical sectors in the Middle East.
In this interview, James Morrison, Regional Sales Manager for the region, explains how the brand’s “We Do Fire.
Better” philosophy is helping to shape safer, smarter buildings—project by project, system by system.
Hochiki’s slogan in the region is “We Do Fire. Better” Can you explain what that means to the people on the ground, including installers, contractors, and building managers?
Absolutely. “We Do Fire. Better” means that every person in our global organisation, from the first person you speak to when you enter our buildings to our research and development teams, is solely focused on fire detection and life safety.
We are not a security company that also does fire, fire safety is the only thing we do.
That clarity ensures every product, every piece of advice, and every local distributor is entirely dedicated to protecting lives and property from fire risk.
It provides peace of mind for the professionals on the front line.
The Middle East is a challenging region, in terms of climate, architecture, and speed of construction. How do Hochiki products meet those demands?
We pride ourselves on manufacturing to the highest global standards.
All our products are designed and built in Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States, and are rigorously tested to both EN and UL standards.
That level of flexibility is rare in this market, and it gives contractors and consultants the freedom to specify systems that comply with building codes, and other regional authorities, all from one trusted source.
Let us talk about reliability. How important is that for life safety installations in the Gulf and where does Hochiki stand on this?
Reliability is everything.
Our products are manufactured to highest standards, with a manufacturing failure rate of less than 0.001%.
What I mean by this is, if there is a defect, it will be detected during or immediately after the manufacturing process, before a product leaves the factory.
Hochiki tests every single device on the production line, commonly known as end-of-line testing, to ensure it functions correctly according to strict operational standards and international standards.
If a device fails this functional test, it is flagged as a manufacturing failure.
So, our 0.001% failure rate means that only 1 in 1,000,000 devices fails these tests and is either rejected or reworked before shipment.
That level of dependability is essential, and it’s why our reputation is globally trusted.
Whether you are fitting a system in a hospital, school, commercial enterprise or high-rise building, knowing that the Hochiki device you’ve chosen will perform exactly as expected every time provides complete confidence.
Installers often need to balance compliance with speed of installation and ease of maintenance. How does Hochiki support them?
We are proud to be involved in a range of projects, from high-end hospitality developments to military-grade facilities, healthcare institutions, and educational campuses.
Each project reflects our flexibility, whether it is a UL-listed system for an embassy or an EN-certified solution for a hospital in the region.
Our customers trust us because we consistently deliver quality, certification, and technical support.
A great example of where we have invested heavily in solutions that meet those exact needs is our Ekho hybrid wireless range.
Perfect for retrofit, heritage applications or buildings where the layouts are particularly complex, perhaps where cabling needs to be limited due to the delicate nature of a building’s architecture for example.
A recent installation of Hochiki’s Ekho devices is at the Outpost Al Barari, a luxurious desert retreat nestled in the remote expanse of Qatar.
The site’s unique architectural footprint and remote location presented a serious challenge for traditional fire safety infrastructure.
We were able to offer the ideal solution with Ekho, offering minimal disruption during installation while maintaining full compliance and robust protection for guests and staff.
Are there any other regional projects that reflect Hochiki’s capabilities?
Absolutely. Across the Middle East, Hochiki has become a trusted name in life safety for a wide range of critical infrastructure.
From universities and hospitals to hotels, residential compounds, and large-scale manufacturing facilities, organisations consistently choose Hochiki because of our proven reliability and ability to tailor solutions to the specific needs of each site.
These environments often face tough environmental conditions, extreme heat, dust, humidity, and complex operational risks, but our systems are built to perform with uncompromising precision.
In industrial and manufacturing sites, where safety and system resilience are critical, our robust solutions stand up to the demands of heavy machinery, airborne particulates, and challenging layouts.
That performance is powered by Japanese-engineered components and a global reputation for quality, ensuring long-term durability and consistent protection.
Whether safeguarding students in a university, patients in a hospital, or production lines in a factory, Hochiki systems deliver peace of mind through intelligent design and dependable engineering.
Finally, what message would you like to leave with installers and engineers across the Middle East?
If you are working in fire safety, you need a partner who lives and breathes it.
We do not divide our focus. We do not compromise on quality.
Whether it is commercial, industrial, or critical infrastructure, Hochiki does fire safety.
