Airport safety focus at Intersec Saudi Arabia summit
According to Intersec Saudi Arabia, fire prevention in airports will be a central theme at the Fire Protection and Technology Summit in Riyadh.
The event will run from 29 September to 1 October at the Riyadh International Convention and Exhibition Center (RICEC).
Intersec Saudi Arabia reported that experts from King Fahd International Airport (KFIA) will share strategies to protect passengers, infrastructure and operations.
In 2024, KFIA handled more than 12 million passengers, making it one of the busiest airports in the Kingdom.
Yousif Mohamed, Fire Prevention Officer at KFIA, said: “The dual nature of airports presents a complex fire safety environment.
“On the landside, we accommodate a large number of passengers and retail areas across our airport terminals.
“Airside, we have to ensure a safe environment for fueling, hangar maintenance, and aircraft operations.
“This demands a multi-layered prevention approach that includes structural protection, system reliability and human resource readiness.”
Measures to protect landside and airside
Intersec Saudi Arabia reported that Mohamed and colleague Eng. Hussein Mohammed Rajab, Senior Manager – Fire Prevention at KFIA, will present systematic approaches to prevention.
It said these measures directly enhance operational continuity, lower emergency response costs and mitigate risks.
The organisation explained that landside measures include passive fire protection, suppression systems in retail areas and evacuation planning.
Airside measures include foam deluge systems, reliable detection technologies and rapid-response firefighting teams.
It added that hybrid compliance combining international fire codes with local regulation will also be highlighted as essential for safe and effective airport operation.
International contributions to the summit
According to Intersec Saudi Arabia, the summit will also host global experts who will address wider safety challenges.
Terrance Tsang, Chief Fire Officer of the Hong Kong Fire Services Department, will discuss safety in super high-rise buildings under construction.
The organisation reported that Abdullah Abdulrahman Alrommani, Assistant Director of Quality and Safety Management at SASCO, will present on fire protection in fuel stations.
These contributions will demonstrate how international experience can support regional progress in safety practices.
NFPA day to support Vision 2030
Intersec Saudi Arabia confirmed that the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) will lead the second day of the summit.
It explained that NFPA will show how international fire and life safety standards can be applied to Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030.

It reported that participants will include representatives from Red Sea Global, UK Policing, the King Salman Park Foundation and Abu Dhabi Police.
Scale of Intersec Saudi Arabia 2025
Intersec Saudi Arabia stated that the 2025 edition will feature over 370 exhibitors from more than 35 countries.
It added that more than 27,000 visitors are expected to attend this year’s event.
The exhibition will take place in Halls 1-7 at RICEC and a dedicated outdoor area.
It explained that the event will cover five product sectors: Commercial & Perimeter Security, Homeland Security & Policing, Fire & Rescue, Safety & Health, and Cybersecurity.
