Ajax Systems has received eight Red Dot Design Awards for its range of fire safety, intrusion protection and video surveillance hardware.

The company announced that this marks the third consecutive year it has been recognised by the international competition which evaluates innovation, functionality and aesthetics.

Awarded hardware for fire and life safety

The EN54 Fire Hub Jeweller earned an award in the Industrial Equipment, Machinery and Automation category as a touchscreen control and indicating equipment (CIE) for fire system management.

This hub provides system states and alarm notifications via a large interface while supporting video surveillance and automation devices.

The EN54 FireProtect Jeweller sounders and visual alarm devices (VADs) were also recognised for delivering alerts within three seconds of an alarm.

These devices monitor battery life in real time and allow for wall or ceiling mounting without requiring disassembly during installation.

The EN54 I/O Module (2X2) Jeweller received an accolade for its ability to integrate third-party devices such as beam smoke detectors or HVAC systems into the Ajax ecosystem.

Recognition for video surveillance and intrusion protection

Three camera models were honoured in the Cameras and Camera Equipment category including the Superior TurretCam HLVF and Superior BulletCam HLVF.

These cameras use a P-Iris lens to maintain image clarity in varying light conditions and feature artificial intelligence to distinguish between people, pets and vehicles.

The BulletCam HL was recognised for its hybrid illumination which uses both infrared and white light to capture high-definition footage in total darkness.

Recording solutions including the NVR H series and the Superior NVR H2D series received awards in the Computer and Information Technology category.

The NVR H2D series includes onboard AI for analytics and supports two hot-swappable hard disk drives (HDDs) with a capacity of up to 24 TB each.

The NFPA research revealed  that 50% of the skilled  workforce shortages will be the main concern for  2025, and this  shortfall is expected to continue growing.

The question most frequently asked is related to the performance of the batteries.

The latest technologies  can deliver  battery capacities between 5 and 7 years, supported by continuous condition monitoring and low-battery alerts, sent to the fire control panel and/or remote management systems.

Providing real-time monitoring notifications and secure on-site and remote on-demand system health checks provides the responsible person(s) and service organisations with the information to know exactly when replacements are needed.

In commercial settings, planned maintenance visits make replacements easy.

This shifts battery management from a problem to a predictable, manageable task.

Wireless EN54 fire detection for commercial and municipal sites 

Some facilities are unsuitable for wired systems , either because wiring them to the local or national codes of practice  is complicated or impossible to do so.

For example, where there is a risk of asbestos or architecturally sensitive building fabric disturbance, or where the operation of the facility would be seriously disrupted.

 In some cases, hybrid systems are used, where some of the fire alarm system is  connected wirelessly, while other devices are wired.

What does EN54 certification require in practice and why does it matter for detection and alarm system performance?

In Europe, fire detection and alarm products must comply with the essential safety and performance requirements of the EN 54 Construction Products Regulation (CPR) and must be CE marked to be legally sold or placed on the market in European Union countries.

So, in Europe, performance specifications must state that the products must meet the relevant EN 54 product standards.

They must also state that product testing, inspection and certification must be carried out by a Notified Body,

A Notified Body is authorised by the EU to assess products under the relevant EN 54 CPR regulations.

Critical tasks performed by Notified Bodies include testing the product/s, verifying the supporting evidence that a product meets the test requirements, issuing a product certificate and undertaking ongoing testing or surveillance activities.

 To achieve consistent regulatory compliance for their products, manufacturers can choose which EU Notified Body to appoint as long as it is certified to test against the relevant EN 54 standards.

What are EN54 Line’s key elements and how do they differ from traditional wired systems installers commonly use?

The main elements of our wireless system do not differ from those of traditional wired systems, with the exception of the additional product certification to EN54-25.

The EN54-25 European Standard specifies requirements, test methods and performance criteria for components used in fire alarm systems, installed in and around buildings, which use radio frequency links (RF links) to communicate.

It also provides requirements for the evaluation of conformity of the components to the requirements.

In addition to the other specific EN54 standards applicable to each fire product, for example, a wireless optical smoke detector would need both EN54-25 and EN54-7 to be listed on the EU CPR certificate to be fully compliant.

How does Ajax’s wireless approach aim to address the challenges of installation time and system complexity?

We have witnessed a marked increase in the number of authorities, specifiers, installers and end users requesting the latest version of EN 54-13 system compatibility compliance and we are also seeing EN 54-13 compliance being stated in the certification requirements for commercial installations in several European countries.

EN 54-13 is a rigorous standard that proves all the components in a fire safety system are compatible and connectable, thereby working effectively as one system.

The EN54 Line has been certified to EN54-13, which will provide installers with the necessary third-party audited documentation and thus prove compliance with the system compatibility clauses written into many standards.

How does the system maintain resilience through power management, signal range and backup operation during outages?

The Ajax Fire Hub CIE (Control and indicating equipment) is responsible for managing the entire system and communicating with the cloud, the user and the fire/security company.

Radio communicators are built in and provide seamless connectivity between the Fire Hub and addressable fire detectors, sounders, VADs, I/O modules, manual call points and other system devices.

The Ajax Fire Hub is equipped with either 24 or 72-hour rechargeable back-up power supplies and four communication channels, Ethernet, Wi-Fi and two SIM card slots.

This principle of operation allows you to connect the device to two different Internet providers via Ethernet and Wi-Fi, as well as two cellular networks.

This means that when one of the communication channels is jammed, the system switches to backup channels, after which it informs users and the fire/security company about the jamming attempt.

Automatic switching between channels takes seconds.

The system uses the Ajax Jeweller communication protocol to transmit real-time device states, alarms, events and all measured readings to Ajax apps.

The Wings and TurboWings protocols are designed to ensure visual verification and large data packets for individual settings, such as interface languages and firmware updates.

The wireless range can reach up to 1,800 m.

The Ajax wireless fire alarm system devices can operate on dual pre-installed batteries without replacement for four to seven years.

With five range extenders connected to one Fire Hub, the coverage can be boosted to up to 35 km².

Many individual services now require confirmation of a real fire before dispatching crews to an activation.

To ensure a response, you must verify the alarm is genuine or have a person at the site confirm the fire.

Advanced fire technology within the EN54 Line will provide central monitoring stations and end-users with more detailed, actionable information than ever – including precise alarm data, visual verification, live and archived video feeds and voice communication.

Ajax Systems outlines 2025 expansion across fire, intrusion and video portfolio

Ajax Systems 2025 overview and manufacturing expansion

Ajax Systems has published a 2025 update covering product releases, manufacturing capacity and platform development.

The company expanded its portfolio by 100 unique devices during the year and opened a new manufacturing facility in Hanoi, Vietnam.

The 8,300 m² factory produces the full range of Ajax devices and is expected to create more than 1,000 jobs in its first year, increasing overall production capacity and regional supply options.

Product and platform updates from Ajax Systems

The update centres on product launches announced at the seventh Ajax Special Event, held on November 21, 2025, with the main presentation in Frankfurt, Germany and offline premieres in 35 countries.

Fifty five new devices were unveiled across intrusion protection, video surveillance and fire and life safety, alongside the introduction of additional product lines.

Among the headline releases was a wireless intrusion protection system certified to EN 50131 Grade 3, supported by Superior Jeweller radio technology.

Ajax Systems also introduced EN54 Line, a fully wireless commercial fire detection and alarm system built around EN 54 Fire Hub Jeweller.

The touchscreen control and indicating equipment is certified to EN 54 and EN 50131 Grade 2 and is designed to support fire detection, intrusion protection and video surveillance within a single system.

Additional releases included Superior Hub Hybrid 2, supporting up to 250 wired and wireless devices, and Superior MegaHub, capable of managing up to 999 devices.

The outdoor range was expanded with curtain-type motion detectors, while Hub BP Jeweller was presented as an off-grid option with up to four years of operation in battery power saver mode.

The video portfolio was also broadened across Baseline and Superior lines, with new motorised varifocal cameras and AI-powered network video recorders featuring dual hot-swappable hard disk drives.

Events, training and wider activity in 2025

Ajax Systems also reported on its global engagement activity during the year, including the third Ajax Roadshow, which visited 140 cities and welcomed around 10,000 industry professionals.

Training and education activity expanded through Ajax Academy, with student numbers increasing by 124 percent year on year and total certificates issued exceeding 64,000.

The update also covered the Ajax Next education initiative in Ukraine, which has supported projects with leading universities and involved around 2,000 students in engineering-focused programmes.

Other activity highlighted included continued development of the Air Alert app, now downloaded more than 46 million times, alongside security installations supporting cultural and heritage sites in Ukraine and the United Kingdom.

Ajax Systems has announced the launch of its EN54 Line fire detection and alarm system in the UK.

According to the company, the new system is fully wireless and designed to support a range of sites including schools, hospitals, offices and heritage buildings.

The firm said the system includes 15 new devices and three accessories, built around the EN54 Fire Hub Jeweller, a wireless control and indicating equipment unit.

EN54 Line devices can be installed in under five minutes and then monitored and maintained remotely or on-site using Ajax’s free mobile and desktop apps.

Wireless coverage and backup designed for large-scale infrastructure

Ajax Systems stated that the Fire Hub Jeweller offers coverage of up to 1,800 metres and can support up to 200 devices and 40 fire zones.

To extend range, the company has developed the EN54 ReX Jeweller, which can be used with up to five extenders to increase system coverage to 35 km².

The Fire Hub includes built-in radio communicators and supports both mains connection and backup lithium-ion batteries that offer 24 to 72 hours of autonomous operation, depending on model.

The company added that the system meets the EN 54 series of standards for fire detection and alarm systems and also integrates intrusion detection and video surveillance capabilities in line with EN 50131 (Grade 2).

Detectors and sounders use dual-sensor smoke chamber and fast-alert VADs

The system includes a series of addressable smoke and heat detectors developed from Ajax’s residential product line.

According to Ajax Systems, the detectors feature a dual-spectrum optical sensor and the HazeFlow 2 algorithm for accurate smoke identification, alongside thermistors for heat detection.

Sounders and visual alarm devices are available as standalone or combined units, with the firm stating that activation occurs in under three seconds.

Devices support audible alerts up to 100 dB and red LED perimeter flashes designed for high visibility in varying conditions.

Integrated automation and visual verification capabilities

Ajax Systems said its EN54 I/O Module (2X2) Jeweller allows third-party device integration through two inputs and two outputs.

It can be configured to activate evacuation systems, control lighting or unlock access points during emergencies, even if the hub is temporarily offline.

Installers can create up to 64 automation scenarios per control unit, and additional Ajax smart relays and switches can be linked to the system for further emergency response automation.

Ajax Systems explained that installation requires no enclosure disassembly, and most devices connect via a QR code and SmartBracket mounting panel.

System maintenance and configuration are handled via Ajax apps, with device battery life ranging from four to seven years depending on the product.

The company added that all devices perform self-checks and send real-time status updates to the Fire Hub and the app.

Software updates are delivered over-the-air, with maintenance reports and battery replacements possible without tools.

According to the manufacturer, the system is suitable for both permanent and temporary installations where cabling may be restricted.
