Mayplas has announced that its recently launched Thermafire A2 Soffit has achieved an A2-s1,d0 Reaction to Fire classification under BS EN 13501-1.

The company stated that the slab, designed to provide both thermal and acoustic insulation, is suitable for use within the soffit at the party wall junction and other areas of construction.

According to Mayplas, the product was introduced in March 2025 and has now been confirmed to meet the A2 classification for limited combustibility.

Insulation performance supports UK building regulations

The company said the Thermafire A2 Soffit is available in various densities and in both 100mm and 150mm thicknesses.

It added that these options allow flexibility in meeting thermal performance requirements set out in Approved Document L.

Mayplas noted that the product is compatible with both masonry and timber frame constructions.

Acoustic properties and installation features

Mayplas reported that the product also addresses sound transmission in line with Approved Document E.

According to the company, standard 600mm x 600mm slabs can be cut on site to fit soffit voids.

It explained that the soffit can be secured to timber trusses or masonry blocks using the correct fixings, which Mayplas is able to supply.

Fire performance and market application

Michael Hunter, Technical Director at Mayplas, said the classification supports wider use in construction: “Achieving an A2-s1, d0 Reaction to Fire classification for our Thermafire soffit product is proving very useful.

“The test results open up new applications which we look forward to exploring with our housebuilder customers and with the construction industry more broadly.”

Mayplas stated that the foil facing of the product acts as a vapour barrier and prevents fibre migration.

The company confirmed the product is suitable for timber-based substrates and can be used with or without a cavity.

Hyundai Mobis develops thermal runaway prevention system for EV batteries

New cell-level fire extinguishing system targets thermal runaway prevention

Hyundai Mobis has reported the development of new technology designed to prevent thermal runaway in electric vehicle batteries.

The South Korea-based automotive supplier explained that its system extinguishes fire at the battery cell level by spraying an agent as soon as combustion is detected.

The technology marks the first approach focused on blocking heat transfer to adjacent cells, rather than simply delaying ignition.

Hyundai Mobis stated that its approach contrasts with previous designs which rely on heat-resistant materials to delay ignition for regulatory minimums.

International standards in regions such as Europe, China, and India currently require thermal runaway to be delayed for at least five minutes.

The company said that its battery system assembly (BSA) is designed to meet these evolving global regulatory trends.

Hyundai Mobis system integrates sensors and automated fire suppression logic

According to Hyundai Mobis, the BSA includes a battery management system (BMS), integrated fire suppression hardware, and software to coordinate responses.

The company explained that the software uses real-time sensor data to monitor temperature, voltage, and internal pressure.

Based on these readings, the system identifies abnormal conditions and pinpoints where the fire extinguishing agent needs to be deployed.

Hyundai Mobis stated that the suppression device then activates to prevent further heat transfer between battery cells.

The firm added that its decision-making algorithm includes built-in redundancy and layered safety mechanisms to maintain reliable operation.

Cooling agent used is five times stronger than domestic extinguishers

Hyundai Mobis said the battery system uses a specialised fire extinguishing agent with a capacity five times larger than a standard 3.3 kilogram home extinguisher.

The company described the agent as offering strong cooling, electrical insulation, and permeability characteristics.

It also stated that the agent is non-toxic and environmentally safe.

Hyundai Mobis confirmed that it has applied for three patents related to the battery case, extinguishing device, and integrated piping for high-pressure spraying.

Material innovation supports wider battery safety goals

Hyundai Mobis reported that it has also developed a new material to reduce battery overheating.

The component, known as a pulsating heat pipe, is made from aluminium alloy and refrigerant.

Placed between battery cells, the pipe lowers the internal temperature during high-load conditions such as fast charging.

The company said this system will support more stable thermal management during real-world operation.

Can you tell us a bit about your professional background and what led you to establish AMTIDAAD?

I’m an electronics engineer and Certified Fire Protection Specialist, approved by both Civil Defense and SIRA. I’ve worked in the fire and security field for more than 19 years, across a wide range of projects. I started AMTIDAAD with a clear goal—to provide integrated, compliant safety solutions across the UAE.

We specialise in fire alarms, suppression, firefighting systems, CCTV and low-current systems. Our clients include businesses in commercial, industrial and residential sectors and we’re known for delivering reliable and cost-effective engineering that protects lives and assets.

With so many different types of projects—from schools to oil facilities—how do you tailor your solutions for each environment?

For example, in schools and hospitals, we focus on early detection and clear voice evacuation systems. Oil and gas sites need explosion-proof equipment and foam suppression systems that can handle flammable liquids. High-rises require pressurised stairwells and addressable alarm systems. In data centres, we use clean agent suppression to protect electronics.

We also make sure systems are adaptable. We use modular designs so they can be expanded or upgraded later. Our installations are also built to connect with smart building systems like BMS or IoT platforms.

One project stands out—we recently used early suppression fast response (ESFR) sprinklers in a warehouse instead of standard heads. This reduced water damage risk by 40% while still meeting DCD requirements.

How are client needs in the UAE changing when it comes to fire and life safety?

We’re seeing a clear shift toward smarter, more integrated safety systems.

Where clients used to ask for basic alarms, now they want systems that link fire detection with access control and automation. We’ve responded by offering platforms that share data directly with Civil Defense in real time.

Sustainability is another priority. Clients want fire systems that align with LEED or Estidama standards. In response, we’re using water mist systems that reduce water usage by up to 70%.

There’s also growing focus on business continuity. Our modular suppression designs let high-rises isolate incidents without a full evacuation. And in maintenance, we’re moving away from reactive models toward predictive ones—using thermal imaging and vibration sensors to spot risks early.

Security is being integrated more tightly, too. Instead of separate teams for fire and security, many clients now prefer unified command centres with AI tools that help verify threats and coordinate response.

What challenges do companies in your sector face when trying to meet modern safety standards in fast-developing cities like Dubai?

The pace of development here is intense and staying ahead of changing standards is a major challenge. Civil Defense and SIRA frequently update their codes, so we’ve set up a team specifically to monitor these changes and adapt our systems early—even before new rules come into force.

High-rise buildings also present unique problems. They often have mixed uses—like shops, hotels and apartments in one tower. To handle this, we use zoned smoke control and AI-powered evacuation tools that match the building’s layout.

Older buildings are another hurdle. Many need upgrades, but can’t afford to shut down operations. We use phased installation and laser scanning to retrofit systems with minimal downtime—usually cutting disruption by half.

We also have to work with extreme weather. Summer temperatures can trigger false alarms or damage sensitive equipment, so we use certified weather-resistant hardware.

There’s also a shortage of certified technicians. To address that, we work closely with SIRA and Civil Defense training centres to ensure a steady pipeline of skilled workers.

Lastly, integration with Dubai’s Smart City systems is becoming a requirement. Our panels are API-ready, which means they can connect directly with government monitoring platforms.

Looking ahead, how do you see fire and life safety evolving in the UAE and how is AMTIDAAD preparing for that future?

The UAE is moving quickly toward smarter, safer cities. Projects like NEOM and Dubai 2040 require safety systems that are intelligent, fast and reliable.

We’re seeing more AI-based risk analysis, real-time alerts and automated response tools. Suppression systems are shifting to cleaner alternatives to match the country’s Net Zero targets.

Regulations are getting tougher, especially for large-scale developments and mixed-use sites. Drones and robots are beginning to take on more tasks in inspections and emergency response. And fire safety training is moving into virtual formats to better prepare both professionals and the public.

CLOU Electronics completes TS-800 fire safety test for Aqua-C2.5 energy storage system

Fire safety test evaluates CLOU Aqua-C2.5 system performance in dense station layout

CLOU Electronics has reported that its Aqua-C2.5 utility-scale energy storage system completed the CSA TS-800 Large-Scale Fire Test (LSFT) in February 2025.

The test, conducted in California under CSA Group supervision, evaluated the system’s capacity to limit thermal runaway propagation under simulated fire conditions.

The company stated that the Aqua-C2.5 is the first large-scale energy storage system to feature an active ventilation fire protection design.

Test simulates extreme thermal and spacing conditions

According to CLOU Electronics, the Aqua-C2.5 was tested using a configuration that replicated real-world station layouts.

Four 20-foot containers were positioned in an A/B A/D array, placed closely side-by-side and back-to-back at a spacing of 140 mm.

The arrangement was fully loaded to replicate operational stress.

During the trial, temperatures inside the cabinet exceeded 1000°C and burned continuously for 48 hours.

CLOU Electronics said adjacent cabinets maintained internal temperatures below 40°C due to the system’s active ventilation and off-gassing features.

CSA Group outlines limitations of previous standards

The TS-800 protocol was released in 2024 by the CSA Group to evaluate large-scale fire behaviour in energy storage systems.

Marvin Peng, Battery & Energy Storage Certifier at CSA Group, said: “The existing standards (such as UL 9540A) are capable of testing for thermal runaway, but they do not adequately simulate fire propagation scenarios, especially in multi-module container systems where a single battery fire can potentially ignite adjacent units or even the entire system.

“The core goal of the TS-800 test is to address this gap.”

CLOU highlights design features and certifications

Eric Wang, System Director of CLOU ESS Division, said: “CLOU committees that every product delivered is trustworthy and has undergone rigorous testing.

“The Aqua-C2.5 5MWh utility scaled energy storage system is the world’s first large-scale energy storage system to adopt an active ventilation fire protection design.

“Through active cell sensing, it triggers an electric shutter explosion suppression solution in thermal runaway scenarios, effectively controlling the spread of thermal runaway at extreme short distances in 140mm.”

The Aqua-C2.5, launched in September 2024, has received certifications including CE, UL1973, UL9540A, UL9540, IEC62619, IEC63056, IEC62477-1, UN38.3, NFPA855 and NEC.

It has also passed the IEEE693 seismic test.

Sungrow and other manufacturers also complete TS-800 testing

Other manufacturers have also conducted the TS-800 fire safety tests for their energy storage systems.

In 2024, Sungrow reported that its liquid-cooled system endured four hours of combustion in an A/B array without fire spreading to surrounding equipment.

Sungrow cited the use of pressure-sensing venting, multi-layer fire resistance and dual-compartment design in its PowerTitan system.

The company stated that its next-generation PowerTitan 2.0 product passed the large-scale test.

Trina Storage and BYD also reported completing the TS-800 fire test in October 2024 and January 2025 respectively.

CLOU Electronics completes TS-800 fire safety test for Aqua-C2.5 energy storage system: Summary

CLOU Electronics reported in February 2025 that its Aqua-C2.5 system completed the CSA TS-800 fire test.

The test evaluated fire propagation and containment in high-density energy storage system layouts.

FPA expands accredited training with Level 3 fire safety qualification

New train-the-trainer qualification developed for UK fire safety professionals

The Fire Protection Association (FPA) has announced the launch of a new Level 3 Certificate in Fire Safety Training, accredited by the Awarding Body for Building Education (ABBE).

According to the FPA, the course is designed to meet rising demand for accredited training and to support organisations aiming to improve workforce competency in fire safety.

The qualification is structured as a train-the-trainer programme and includes a four-day in-person attendance requirement, followed by eight weeks of additional learning and assessment.

The course delivers 13 Level 3 credits and comprises seven mandatory units, covering educational methods and core fire safety knowledge, including safe use of portable firefighting equipment.

FPA outlines course content and delivery structure

The Fire Protection Association stated that the qualification equips learners to deliver fire safety and fire warden training tailored to specific workplaces.

It explained that the seven required units include: ‘Roles, responsibilities, and relationships in education and training’; ‘Using inclusive teaching and learning approaches’; ‘Facilitating learning and development’; ‘Understanding assessment’; ‘Principles and practice of assessment’; ‘Fire safety principles’; and ‘Using portable firefighting equipment safely’.

The FPA said the qualification involves a total learning time of 130 hours and is designed for those wishing to gain a formal training role in fire safety.

Range of FPA fire safety qualifications available

In addition to the new certificate, the Fire Protection Association provides a series of fire safety qualifications categorised by level and total qualification time.

The FPA explained that an Award consists of up to 120 hours, a Certificate ranges from 121 to 369 hours, and a Diploma exceeds 370 hours.

All qualifications are awarded by organisations regulated by the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual), it added.

The organisation confirmed that current offerings include the Level 3 Certificate and Level 4 Diploma in Fire Risk Assessment, both of which support compliance with fire safety legislation in the UK, as well as Level 2 and Level 3 qualifications in Passive Fire Protection and Fire Door Inspection.

UK Gateway 2 approvals stall as application rejections reach 75%

High rejection rates raise concerns over UK Gateway 2 application process

The Fire Protection Association (FPA) has reported that three-quarters of Gateway 2 submissions for higher-risk buildings are currently being rejected by the Building Safety Regulator (BSR).

The BSR, overseen by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), said most applications are missing key fire and structural safety information, with issues stemming from misunderstanding requirements that have been in place for over a decade.

Tim Galloway, deputy director of the HSE, said: “Too many applicants don’t quite as yet understand what is expected of them.”

Galloway continued: “The missing details are fairly fundamental stuff. They relate to standards that are at least a decade and a half old in terms of what’s intended to be achieved, and that’s quite worrying that applications are not able to show fire safety and not able to show structural safety, which one would have expected.”

Galloway added: “What we have learned, I think, is that there’s more of a need for that investment in upfront design, that thinking to be done by those submitting the applications [happens] earlier, and that’s something that has required more transition for the industry than we’d expected.”

Industry guidance remains unclear as BSR reaffirms regulatory role

The FPA reported that many contractors have criticised the lack of clear guidance on how to meet Gateway 2 requirements.

Galloway said the BSR is cooperating with the Construction Leadership Council to support better guidance but noted the regulator’s role is not to author this material.

He stated: “I want industry to write that guidance, because it will be better than anything I could write.”

Galloway continued: “You need people who have got that deep construction industry experience, who understand the process, understand the right phraseology, understand how the designers and the architects and the other players interact, because they will write it with that in mind.”

Backlog of Gateway 2 approvals slows project timelines

According to data published by the FPA, the BSR has only approved 14 out of 45 Gateway 2 applications and one out of 13 Gateway 3 submissions that were transferred from private firms.

These figures reflect projects previously handled by private building control firms, including AIS Surveyors, which exited the market in 2024.

The HSE acknowledged the backlog and said: “We acknowledge there have been delays to processing approvals for building control applications and we are working to put this right.”

It added: “A backlog of complex in-flight higher risk projects which came into BSR after the collapse of private registered building control approver AIS Surveyors initially drove up processing times.”

BSR reports processing improvements but contractors push for changes

The HSE stated that increased resources have reduced Gateway 2 handling times for complex applications to 16 to 17 weeks, and category B projects to around 10 weeks.

The organisation said: “Outside of the backlog there are a small number of highly-complex ‘in build’ transitional cases which are not yet of a sufficient standard to be approved.”

It added: “We are taking a pragmatic approach to these cases to make sure building work can continue.”

The statement also noted: “We are confident that all the operational contingency measures we’ve put in place, including dedicated support from industry will also allow us to clear the applications in the backlog as we head into the new financial year.”

A construction source cited by the FPA argued that the current Gateway 2 system is causing construction delays and suggested deferring approvals to the final stages of build.

The source said: “The current system isn’t working but we all want to see safe buildings. We take pictures of everything for the Golden Thread so the proof will still be there for the end user and anyone who doesn’t comply with regulations will still be found out.”

UK Gateway 2 approvals stall as application rejections reach 75%: Summary

The Fire Protection Association (FPA) reported that the Building Safety Regulator (BSR) is rejecting 75% of Gateway 2 submissions for higher-risk buildings.

The BSR said most applications are missing essential safety information.

Tim Galloway of the HSE said the failures relate to long-standing design standards.

Galloway stated that better upfront design is needed.

Contractors have said clearer guidance is required to meet Gateway 2 requirements.

The BSR said it is working with the Construction Leadership Council on guidance but expects industry to lead it.

Only 14 out of 45 Gateway 2 applications and one out of 13 Gateway 3 applications transferred from private firms have been approved.

The HSE said the backlog was worsened by the collapse of AIS Surveyors.

It reported that processing times for new applications are now improving.

Complex cases still face delays due to application quality.

Some contractors want Gateway 2 approval moved to later project stages.

Leadership background and strategic goals

Percheron Capital stated that Carmine Schiavone brings over 30 years of industry experience, having led the largest fire and life safety business in North America through roles at Johnson Controls and Tyco International.

The firm explained that during Schiavone’s tenure, the business achieved strong technician retention and safety records while also generating multibillion-dollar annual revenue.

It also noted that Schiavone later served as Chief Executive Officer at SavATree, where he oversaw multiple acquisitions within five years.

It has been launched in partnership with Carmine Schiavone.

Schiavone previously led the largest fire and life safety business in North America.

He worked at Johnson Controls and Tyco International.

Percheron stated that the new platform will support companies committed to safety, service quality and staff development.

The company said Schiavone will lead the initiative.

It added that the platform will work with fire and life safety companies to expand services and growth.

Design, then build, with Quelfire

Sadly, it has taken the tragedy of the Grenfell Tower fire to expose the systemic failures of the government, construction industry and other trade bodies. In September 2024, the Grenfell Tower’s public inquiry came to a close, finding that all 72 deaths were avoidable and unsurprisingly, that the industry needed to change. And fast.  

Since June 14th 2017, the construction industry has faced increased scrutiny, resulting in the implementation of the Building Safety Act 2022. It has also borne witness to the findings and recommendations of the public inquiry.

From cost-cutting and ignored warnings to dangerous marketing and training failures, the inquiry uprooted decades of evidence that clearly highlights why the way the industry designs, builds and views fire safety must change.

In an interview for CIBSE Journal, Dame Judith Hackitt said: “Fire safety is, clearly, extremely important, but whatever you are working on – be it acoustics or thermal insulation – if it’s not done properly the building will not be fit for purpose.” 

Construction needs to start being recognised as a team exercise; non-compliant work will only create challenges for the stakeholders that follow.  

Aims of the Building Safety Act  

The Building Safety Act was created in response to the Grenfell Tower fire. Setting the foundation for building safety in the construction sector, it overhauls existing regulations to create lasting change. This is through setting clear guidelines on how buildings should be effectively designed, built and maintained. With one goal in mind: to protect the end user.  

The Building Safety Act now gives residents and homeowners more authority after the inquiry found that concerns of Grenfell residents about the tower’s safety were consistently ignored. What overarches the goal of the Building Safety Act is the responsibility placed on companies and individuals within the construction industry. Not only to ensure compliance with building regulations, but to demonstrate competency. 

What positive changes is the industry seeing from the Building Safety Act? 

The Building Safety Act has been a catalyst for cultural change, especially regarding attitudes towards fire safety: ‘design, then build’. In Quelfire’s ‘Navigating Gateway 2’ panel discussion at London Build 2024, Jeremy Ockenden, Technical Director at Affinity Fire, highlighted that one positive from the Building Safety Act is the current attitudes of design teams.

This being that they must collaborate and demonstrate compliance with building regulations. Ockenden said, “We have to be absolutely rock solid; there’s no let’s test the waters, let’s see if we can get away with this.” 

Furthermore, though there may be more upfront costs associated with the ‘design, then build’ approach, Graeme Whitty, National Product Director at Willmott Dixon, emphasised that contractors, consultants and product suppliers will have to be chosen earlier. Whitty added, “[The client] can’t play the game, drive lowest cost, or best-value decision.”  

Compliance with the Building Safety Act, especially when submitting a Gateway application, requires partnerships built on integrity and a commitment to getting it right the first time around. It puts fire safety first.  

Exploring the Gateway regime  

One section of the Building Safety Act is the Gateway regime. The Gateways control the flow and progress of higher-risk buildings. Planning Gateway One- at the planning application stage. Gateway Two- before building work starts. Gateway Three- when building work is completed.  

Gateways Two and Three are ‘stop and go’ checkpoints, meaning the project can only progress to the next stage once approved.  At the time of writing, looking at recent statistics for Gateway Two applications, only 11 have been approved. Nine of these have been confirmed by the Health and Safety Executive as legacy projects from AIS Chartered Surveyors or Assent Building Control; therefore, do not depict an accurate representation.  

Contractors are facing unclear submission requirements and extensive delays, with some already being rejected.

This emphasises how difficult the Gateways are to successfully navigate, especially as the Building Safety Regulator is relatively new. A shared understanding of the ‘design, then build’ approach, the importance of early engagement and increased collaboration between all stakeholders will put projects in better stead for a successful Gateway submission – even with the uncertainty of timings and requirements. Focus on what can be controlled first – that is, working in line with tested solutions alongside the manufacturer and other stakeholders.  

What is early engagement? 

Early engagement in firestopping is what it says on the tin. It brings all parties involved in the design and installation of service penetration seals into the project’s design stage. This ensures the fire safety of the building is a priority from the outset and that the building is constructed in line with regulations and manufacturers’ guidance. This is where the ‘design then build’ model can be applied.  

Early engagement helps facilitate this approach as it’s about thoroughly planning the project – including choosing service types, insulation, and agreeing fire ratings, for instance – and ensuring there are available tested details to work to.

Only when the design is ready can the construction phase commence. Early engagement is beneficial as it can be applied to all areas of construction, not just service penetrations.  

Does early engagement have any other benefits?  

It offers a wide range of benefits that can easily be overlooked. Most importantly, it saves live through effective compartmentation and works to available tested solutions, meaning buildings are constructed around test evidence. It also helps to avoid extra delays and costs through effective planning, ensures compliant and achievable installations and improves reputations by building trust.  

When evaluating the Building Safety Act, it can be easy to overlook all the positives, especially when faced with significant delays, lack of communication and blurred submission requirements from government bodies. But, ultimately, like all other legislation, it is there for a reason. To protect people and property and ensure Grenfell never happens again. 

Rounding up the panel discussion, Tom Hughes, Principal Building Safety Consultant at Safer Sphere, emphasised that it is vital to understand that “we’re designing and constructing people’s homes.” Early engagement. Collaboration. Design, then build.

Fire Safety Week in health facilities: India marks national awareness campaign

Indian Health Ministry marks nationwide Fire Safety Week initiative

The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare launched Fire Safety Week across India from 21 to 25 April 2025, focusing on the safety of health facilities.

According to the Ministry, the campaign involves collaboration with all States and Union Territories, alongside central Ministries and Departments.

The week-long initiative began with a national pledge ceremony held at Nirman Bhawan, led by Union Health Secretary Smt. Punya Salila Srivastava.

Pledge event gathers over 3,000 participants from health sector

The Ministry reported that more than 3,000 individuals from public and private health institutions attended the event virtually.

Senior Ministry officials participated in the ceremony in person.

The pledge ceremony was accompanied by webinars on emergency evacuation, patient safety strategies, and fire risk management in critical healthcare areas.

Fire preparedness highlighted through training and mock drills

Smt. Punya Salila Srivastava said: “Fire and electrical safety in health facilities is essential and must be continuously prioritised.”

She added: “We must ensure that all healthcare workers are trained and that fire preparedness and patient evacuation mock drills are conducted regularly.”

Smt. Srivastava further stated: “Developing a culture of safety within our institutions is necessary to protect lives and reduce risk.”

She called on health institutions across the country to share examples of effective practices to improve fire safety outcomes.

Hospitals urged to undertake audits and awareness activities

The Ministry explained that hospitals are being encouraged to carry out fire audits and host awareness programmes as part of Fire Safety Week.

These activities include poster-making and quizzes, as well as demonstrations of fire detection and suppression systems.

A detailed checklist was sent to all States and Union Territories to guide public and private health facilities on conducting safety assessments.

The Ministry added that medical colleges and tertiary hospitals have been asked to prioritise engagement with the campaign.

Webinars focus on equipment maintenance and evacuation

The Ministry has organised a two-day webinar series addressing prevention, compliance, and operation of fire safety systems in health facilities.

It confirmed that more than 3,000 people have attended the sessions so far.

Topics included maintaining detection and suppression systems, patient evacuation, and mock drills.

Private sector and professional associations invited to participate

The Health Ministry has also reached out to the Indian Medical Association and other central Ministries, encouraging them to support Fire Safety Week activities.

According to the Ministry, these bodies have been asked to engage their branches at State and District levels to extend campaign reach.

Private sector involvement has been highlighted as an important element of the national effort.

Online resources and public engagement via MyGOV

The Ministry reported that it has worked with the MyGOV platform to provide an online pledge and fire safety quiz.

The digital resources are intended to support individual and institutional engagement during the campaign.

Links to the pledge and quiz were shared to increase accessibility and promote awareness among wider audiences.

Ongoing guidance and resources provided to States and UTs

The Ministry stated that it remains engaged with States and Union Territories by issuing advisories, checklists and recommended practices.

These materials are aimed at supporting continuous improvement in fire safety standards in both public and private health facilities.

It reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of patients, visitors and healthcare workers through proactive risk management.
