AP News has reported that the recall applies to Anker’s “PowerCore 10000” lithium-ion battery power banks, which were sold between June 2016 and December 2022.

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the product’s battery can overheat and cause plastic parts to melt, creating a risk of smoke and fire.

Anker Innovations stated that the recall was being conducted “out of an abundance of caution” to protect customer safety.

The company and the CPSC are urging customers to stop using the product immediately and to dispose of it according to battery-specific guidance.

ProFM Group reported that human patrols remain a key feature in many buildings still awaiting installation of permanent fire safety measures.

According to the company, Waking Watch involves trained operatives maintaining constant patrols to detect fire signs and initiate evacuations.

The National Fire Chiefs Council and the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities continue to recommend the installation of automatic fire detection systems in high-risk buildings.

The company said that any hazards such as blocked exits or fire door breaches must be reported immediately.

ProFM Group stated that while national fire incident figures have decreased over the past decade, the upgrade of fire detection systems in many buildings has not kept pace.

According to UK Government data, fire incidents in buildings fell from 46,817 in 2014 to 38,275 in 2024.

Despite this, Macaulay noted that legacy housing stock still presents challenges for alarm and evacuation system upgrades.

The company emphasised that temporary measures should never become long-term substitutes for engineered safety infrastructure.

Macaulay said: “The least we can do is make sure the change [Grenfell] triggered continues.
“That means permanent safety systems, not just stopgaps, and residents empowered to ask the right questions.”

Places for People confirmed that both frameworks will be issued under the Procurement Act 2023, which came into force in February.

The Act has been described by the government as a modernisation of public procurement, allowing for more flexible spending processes across public sector organisations.

Local authorities and housing associations have been identified as key stakeholders in this procurement overhaul, which applies to all contracting authorities in the UK.

The campaign is being carried out by Saned Facility Management in cooperation with the Sharjah Civil Defence Authority and the Sharjah Prevention and Safety Authority.

According to local media, the initiative aims to identify faults in early warning systems using data collected from the Aman system, which links building fire alarms to emergency control rooms.

Saned Facility Management stated that the first stage of the programme focuses on properties flagged by the Aman system as having technical issues.

Building owners and managers are being contacted and advised to complete repairs through Civil Defence-approved maintenance providers.

The goal is to improve the response time to incidents and reduce the likelihood of property damage or casualties caused by fire.

Aman system used to pinpoint alert faults

The Aman system monitors connected fire alarms and transmits data to the General Directorate of Civil Defence and Saned’s operations centre.

This allows emergency teams to receive alerts immediately when a fire occurs and locate the source quickly.

The data also enables performance monitoring, allowing authorities to track trends and identify problems in early warning equipment.

The system is part of Sharjah’s broader effort to deploy digital tools for fire prevention across buildings and public infrastructure.

Saned said the campaign is ongoing and performance will be reviewed continuously, though no fixed end date has been announced.

Barnbrook Systems confirmed that the same technology is scaled for larger units including E:CRATE for the waste industry and E:PAD for data centres.
