Stat-X condensed aerosol systems receive marine certification

Fireaway has announced that its Stat-X condensed aerosol fire-extinguishing systems have received type approval from Bureau Veritas following evaluation in accordance with MSC.1/Circ.1270.

The approvals are supported by three certificates covering the global market, the European Union and the United Kingdom, enabling application in SOLAS-regulated marine environments across global, EU-flagged and UK-flagged vessels.

The Bureau Veritas Type Approval Certificate confirms that Stat-X systems satisfy the requirements of SOLAS 74, as amended, the FSS Code, the 1994 and 2000 HSC Codes, and IMO MSC.1/Circ.1270.

An EC Type Examination Certificate was issued under the EU Marine Equipment Directive 2014/90/EU, supporting the wheelmark pathway for EU-flagged vessels. A UK Type-Examination Certificate was issued by Bureau Veritas under the Merchant Shipping (Marine Equipment) Regulations 2025, authorised by the Maritime & Coastguard Agency.

“This approval confirms that Stat-X systems meet defined evaluation criteria for use in marine applications subject to SOLAS requirements,” said Lance Harry, P.E., President and CEO of Fireaway: “It also reflects the structured process through which performance validation, technical assessment and certification come together in practice.”

The approval covers 15 generator models across the E-series, which uses electrical activation, and the T-series, which uses thermal activation, both of which were evaluated for enclosed marine machinery spaces.

Vessel-specific installations remain subject to review and authorisation by classification societies and flag administrations in line with project-specific conditions.

Stat-X condensed aerosol systems are designed for enclosed and special-hazard environments where compact, electrically non-conductive suppression solutions are required. The systems can be applied across marine spaces including machinery compartments, control cabinets and auxiliary equipment enclosures.

Reacton Fire Suppression wins King’s Award for Enterprise 2026 for innovation

Reacton Fire Suppression Ltd has been awarded a King’s Award for Enterprise in the Innovation category, placing the company among 52 organisations across the United Kingdom recognised in the 2026 honours list.

As part of the award, Chief Executive Officer Sam Malins is due to meet His Majesty King Charles III at a ceremony at St James’s Palace. The company’s technology is designed to automatically detect and extinguish fires at their source, using integrated detection and suppression systems.

At the core of Reacton’s system is a proprietary pneumatic detection tube filled with nitrogen. When exposed to heat or flame, the tube ruptures and triggers the immediate release of an extinguishing agent, operating without the need for an external power source.

The company’s power-independent design has been highlighted as particularly significant in high-risk environments where electrical systems may fail. Reacton systems can also use electronic linear detection as an alternative option, allowing deployment across a wide range of sectors including heavy machinery, bus engines, electrical control panels and CNC equipment.

Award recognises dual-agent fire suppression approach

The King’s Awards for Enterprise also noted Reacton’s dual-agent suppression approach. This system combines dry powder, which rapidly suppresses flames, with wet chemical agents that cool surfaces and help prevent re-ignition. The company also offers clean agent options using fluorinated ketones, which are discharged as gas and leave no residue, making them suitable for environments containing sensitive equipment or where people may be present.

Another key feature of the technology is its modular design. Reacton uses what it describes as a “one valve fits all” system, allowing the same core valve to be used across a wide range of applications, from small electrical cabinets to large-scale industrial machinery weighing up to 400 tonnes. Only cylinder size and agent volume vary, which the company says reduces complexity and installation time while improving reliability.

Reacton Fire Suppression Ltd traces its origins to 2010, when Sam Malins acquired a small start-up focused on addressing gaps in fire protection for high-value mobile equipment. Following the acquisition of Reacton Fire Suppression Ltd in 2016, the business expanded into an Essex-based manufacturing, research and development, and international sales operation.

Today, the company supplies fire suppression systems across multiple sectors, including public transport, mining, information technology infrastructure, manufacturing and defence. Its international markets include the United States, Saudi Arabia, Australia, Africa and Central Asia. Clients include JCB and DP World.

Reacton says its systems are designed not only to protect equipment but also to reduce risk to human life by preventing fire escalation in industrial and operational environments.

Wtech acquisition strengthens European fire protection reach for APi Group

Expansion of fire suppression scale through Wtech purchase

APi Group Corporation has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Wtech Fire Group to expand fire sprinkler and suppression capabilities across several European markets.

The Minnesota-based APi Group Corporation (APG) announced the transaction is expected to close in the second half of 2026.

This acquisition targets Wtech Fire Group (Wtech) which operates as a provider of fire protection, suppression and detection solutions.

The deal remains subject to customary closing conditions and required regulatory approvals.

Integration of Wtech into international business

Headquartered in Ireland, Wtech serves markets including the United Kingdom, Ireland, Spain, Germany and the Nordic region.

Wtech is expected to contribute approximately $175 million in annual revenue.

The margin profile of the Irish firm is consistent with the existing international business of APG.

Fire sprinkler and suppression services are identified as a key growth area for the company’s international operations.

Report says data centres may add to PFAS pollution pressures

Data Centres and PFAS use

Data Centres are contributing to perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances pollution through cooling systems, semiconductors and fire suppressants, according to analysis published by the Environmental and Energy Study Institute on 9 April 2026.

The article states that Data Centres host tens of thousands of servers that run 24/7 to support virtual networks, cloud storage and computing, with equipment that depends on PFAS-based materials.

Perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances are described as a group of more than 15,000 synthetic chemicals used in non-stick products, water-resistant materials and firefighting products.

The article says the carbon-fluorine bonds in PFAS are resistant to breaking down in the environment, leading to their classification as forever chemicals.

It adds that PFAS are present in air, soil, drinking water and the food chain, and that they can accumulate in the environment and in the body over time.

The Environmental and Energy Study Institute writes that Data Centres primarily use PFAS in server cooling systems and in clean agent fire suppression systems, with FM-200 and Novec 1230 identified as common examples.

The article says direct PFAS pollution from Data Centres is difficult to measure and likely limited because cooling systems generally operate as closed loops.

It also states that discarded microchips and other electronic equipment can release PFAS into the environment when they enter landfill.

Cooling systems and fire suppression

The article says water has historically been used as the main coolant in Data Centres, and that operators have been adopting alternative systems as 45% of facilities are located in water-stressed regions.

It identifies two-phase immersion cooling as a popular option because it is cost effective and highly energy efficient, adding that the technology uses carbon and fluorine.

These PFAS are said to break down into trifluoroacetic acid, which the article describes as a toxic chemical linked to reproductive health risks.

The Environmental and Energy Study Institute also says Data Centres are exposed to fire risk because of the heat produced by servers and the amount of electrical equipment on site.

It cites analysis of fire outbreaks at Data Centres since 2021 that identified causes including lithium-ion battery failure in semiconductors, water damage to electrical equipment and other equipment failures.

The article states that clean agent systems are typically used in place of water-based systems because they are non-conductive and residue-free, and because water can damage servers.

It adds that 3M announced in 2022 that it would stop producing PFAS, including Novec 1230, by the end of 2025, and that the company has since confirmed it has ended all PFAS manufacturing.

Regulation and costs

The article says regulation remains difficult because PFAS are used across everyday products and industrial applications, raising questions over where responsibility should sit.

Matt Dunn, a PFAS scientist at Tetra Tech, said: “Do you go after the user, or do you go after the manufacturer,”

“And understanding the difference there is very important.”

The article says many emerging technologies aimed at destroying PFAS are energy intensive and expensive, adding that this has raised debate over who should bear the cost.

It points to state-level action in Maine and Minnesota, including product restrictions and future bans affecting intentionally-added PFAS in some sectors.

The article also says there is no single direct federal route for PFAS regulation as of 2026, even though existing legislation provides several ways to address contaminants at different stages.

It adds that Congress has introduced measures including the PFAS Research and Development Reauthorization Act of 2025 and the Clean Water Standards for PFAS Act of 2025, which it says could be applied to PFAS contamination from Data Centres.

The analysis presents PFAS use in Data Centres as part of a wider regulatory and operational issue linked to cooling systems, semiconductor production and fire suppression.

The article concludes with possible routes for future action including reporting standards, product bans and research into alternatives to PFAS.

Fidelity acquisition extends Ranger footprint into the South East

Ranger expands into the South East

Ranger Fire and Security has made its first acquisition in the South East with the purchase of London-based Fidelity Integrated Systems, announced on Wednesday 15 April 2026.

Ranger said Fidelity, which is based in Orpington, will act as the group’s business hub in the region.

Fidelity provides fire and safety-security services including access control, CCTV, intruder alarms and gate automation.

Its fire safety work includes detection, suppression and compliance solutions intended to minimise risk and damage to properties.

The company has served customers across London and the home counties for more than 20 years.

Its client base includes listed buildings, schools, retail stores and residential developments.

Fidelity holds NACOSS Gold accreditation for Security Systems and for Fire Alarm Systems and is fully regulated by the NSI.

The acquisition is Ranger’s 18th since its formation in early 2024 and its fifth of 2026.

Leadership and regional plans

Ranger said Fidelity Managing Director Andy Atkinson will remain in his role alongside the existing senior management teams.

Kentec expands Sigma ZXT compliance with UL 864 listing

Kentec has announced that its Sigma ZXT control panel has achieved an Underwriters Laboratories (UL) listing to the UL 864 10th edition standard, allowing the platform to support compliant fire detection and suppression systems in global markets.

Kentec said the listing applies to a panel designed for early-warning fire detection and suppression systems across the Americas, the Middle East and Southeast Asia.

The Sigma ZXT builds on the company’s Sigma A-XT range with additional features and compliance with the latest standards.

It can be configured with dual extinguishing outputs to support main and reserve cylinders, helping reduce downtime after a release.

A dynamic LCD display provides real-time system status using green, red, blue and amber indication for conditions including fire, faults and releasing stages.

The panel can also store 1,000 event logs in a downloadable record for diagnostics and investigation.

Technical details of the Sigma ZXT

Kentec said the panel is suited to high-risk applications including battery energy storage systems (BESS), where conditions that could lead to thermal runaway and fire need to be identified quickly.

Three initiating device circuits can be configured for coincidence activation so extinguishant release only occurs after confirmation of a fire event.

Three notification appliance circuits support horns, strobes and horn strobe devices from multiple suppliers, with patterns that indicate different stages of extinguishant release.

Six programmable volt-free relay outputs and two programmable inputs allow site-specific function control.

Remote indication and control can be provided through Sigma ZSi Status Units, with up to seven units connected on a monitored RS485 Data Bus.

Additional fixed-function relay outputs can be added through up to seven Sigma ZXT UL Ancillary Boards.

Inflexion agrees Marioff fire suppression acquisition in Finland

Fire suppression acquisition announced

Inflexion has agreed to acquire Marioff, a Finland-headquartered supplier of high-pressure water mist fire suppression systems, in a transaction that remains subject to customary regulatory approvals.

Inflexion announced the deal and said the investment will be made by its Buyout Fund VI.

Marioff was founded more than 40 years ago and is headquartered in Vantaa, Finland.

The company provides fire protection solutions and services across the value chain, including development, manufacturing, sales, turnkey project execution and lifecycle services.

Its HI-FOG technology is used in data centres, naval vessels, cruise ships and industrial facilities in more than 70 countries.

In the latest financial year, Marioff generated revenues of $266m.

Marioff operations and growth plans

Inflexion said Marioff operates in a market shaped by increasing safety regulation and stated that the company will continue to invest in innovation and its aftermarket offering.

The firm said it will support management in accelerating growth in land-based end markets.

It also said Marioff will retain its marine customer proposition and continue to grow its service capabilities.

Inflexion described the transaction as its seventh investment in the Nordic region.

The firm also cited previous investments in safety-critical and compliance-focused businesses including Kee Safety, Noventis Safety, BES, Phenna and Celnor.

For Reacton Fire Suppression, that motivation has become a defining part of its culture and communication: a passion to protect.

The company’s mechanically operated systems are now installed across industries and continents, protecting everything from vehicles and heavy machinery to precision manufacturing equipment.

Over the past year, Reacton has strengthened its UK headquarters, expanded its international footprint and continued to grow its presence in markets including the Middle East, Europe and the Americas.

As the company looks ahead to Intersec Dubai 2026 and the next phase of its global development, it remains guided by the same principle that has shaped its journey from the start – designing reliable fire-suppression systems that work when it matters most.

In this conversation with IFSJ, Sam Malins, Chief Executive Officer at Reacton Fire Suppression, reflects on the past year, discusses current priorities and shares what continues to drive the business forward.

What have the past 12 months involved for Reacton, and what is the company focused on now?

The past 12 months have been about putting a clear sales focus in place and driving growth after several years of concentrating on building our approvals.

We have divided the sales side of the business into two parts, vehicle systems and clean agent systems, because we want the sales cycle to be as straightforward as the products themselves.

On the vehicle side we cover on and off road vehicles and heavy plant.

That includes mining equipment, quarrying equipment, waste and recycling machinery and on road fleets such as busses and military vehicles.

We also protect taxis.

In the UAE alone we protect more than 4500 vehicles, including 3000 busses and 1500 taxis.

That has been a major focus for us.

The clean agent side covers electrical control panels, CNC machines, wind turbines and a wide range of industrial applications where a clean agent is required.

So overall, the year has really been about growth and simplifying the sales structure so customers can reach the right product quickly and easily.

What does Reacton’s passion to protect mean to you personally, and how does it guide the company?

We started Reacton about 15 years ago with a clear intention to protect assets in a commercially viable way.

Fire suppression should be affordable for everyone.

It should not be something where you have to think twice because of the price point, especially when the aim is to protect people and assets around the world.

That thinking has guided us from day one.

We have worked hard to gain approvals while keeping the systems affordable.

We are proud to have the smallest approved dual agent system in the world and the smallest approved powder bus system.

By getting high performance into the smallest possible system, we can offer strong pricing and very high quality.

How do you maintain Reacton’s sense of purpose as the business grows across international markets?

It starts with hiring the right people.

We put a lot of effort into finding people who share our values and are passionate about getting our products out into the world.

Inside Reacton we feel like a family or a friendship group, and that is part of how we work.

When I move through the business that is how it feels, and I think that culture carries through to everything we do.

When we win big contracts to protect large fleets the whole team gets excited.

The excitement comes more from knowing those fleets will be protected properly than from the monetary rewards behind it.

That reinforces the purpose all the time.

It also helps that we have always focused on getting the pricing structure right.

When we win work because the systems perform well and the pricing is fair, that momentum feeds the passion to keep pushing forward.

What steps have strengthened Reacton’s global presence, and which regions are driving the strongest growth?

Reacton is strategically positioned around the world.

Our headquarters are near London, we have facilities in Phoenix, Arizona and a sales office in Dubai.

Being close to customers means we can support them properly, and that is the model we want to expand.

We have also added a representative in India to support that region.

We look at where our competitors are strong on price but weaker on performance, because that is where we know we can make the biggest impact.

From our testing we know our systems perform extremely well, and when you combine that with competitive pricing and strong approvals, we can go in and take market share with confidence.

The major growth areas for us are the United States, the Middle East and India.

We also have projects in Africa, Indonesia and Australia.

We protect the world’s largest open gold mine in Uzbekistan and work very closely with our distributors there.

We have strong relationships with distributors everywhere, and the closer we work with them, the more grounded we are in their markets and the better support we can give to their customers.

How does your expanded UK headquarters and manufacturing base support quality and responsiveness worldwide?

We moved into our 12,000 square foot Essex facility in 2017.

Over the years we added mezzanine after mezzanine until we simply didn’t have the space to expand.

It became much larger than it started, but we eventually outgrew it.

We could not hold enough stock before manufacturing, and once products were manufactured the goods out area was always in the way.

We have now moved to a 36,000 square foot building in Witham, and it is an incredible facility.

It feels like it was designed for us.

We have a separate CNC machine shop, a dedicated manufacturing line and a separate goods out building.

The space gives us room to grow, and I believe it could support six to eight times our current volume.

There is no mezzanine yet, so we could add one and effectively double the floor space.

It also has a large outdoor area for product testing and for managing articulated vehicles and container deliveries.

What trends or challenges are shaping fire suppression demand across transport, construction and manufacturing sectors?

Electrification is the biggest trend.

As more vehicles become electric, it becomes even more important to protect the electrical components.

People ask whether we protect electric vehicles, and the answer is absolutely.

A lot of EV fires start in electrical components outside the battery, so we protect those components to help prevent fire ingress into the battery.

We are seeing strong growth in clean agent systems across the electrified transport sector.

At the same time diesel vehicles will remain in use for many years, and we are seeing countries now demand fire suppression on busses as standard.

That is driving growth as well.

There is also a shift where large global corporations buy smaller operators, and those corporations often mandate fire suppression across all their fleets, which increases uptake.

Another big factor is certification.

We are the only company with a UL direct clean agent system, and that gives customers confidence because it is a very high level of certification for electrical control panels.

What elements of Reacton’s origins or ethos remain central to how you design and refine your systems?

Reacton comes from the heavy plant industry, especially the waste and recycling sector.

From the beginning we had a vision to bring affordability to asset protection because we had our own assets and knew what was needed.

We are very passionate about making sure people do not have to think twice about protecting their equipment.

We also have a circular economy approach through the group.

We own Fireward, our UK distributor, as well as the waste operator, which means we get live feedback straight from the field.

Reacton designs the system, Fireward installs it and the operator provides immediate operational insight.

That creates a fast loop, allowing us to test improvements quickly and refine the products in real conditions.

This has become a core part of how we develop and improve our systems.

What will be Reacton’s main focus at Intersec Dubai 2026 when meeting partners and customers?

We want to keep things simple and showcase the two sides of our product range, the vehicle systems and the clean agent systems.

We also use Intersec as a gathering for our team.

Our representative from India will be there, our colleague from the United States will come over and the UK team will be there, so it is a great way to start the year together.

We really value time with existing customers.

Alongside the stand we have a separate room for the full three days where we will present what 2026 and 2027 will look like for Reacton.

We will run a presentation each day, covering updates and future plans.

It also gives new prospective customers a chance to see everything in one place.

What are Reacton’s priorities for the year ahead, and where do you see the strongest opportunities?

After about a year and a half of focused selling we have seen strong growth.

In 2026 we are looking forward to adding new approvals and products to the range.

These include a new UL approval, an updated AS 5062 approval and approvals for specific regions.

We think this is the right moment to expand that part of the offering and give distributors more certified options for their customers.

We also have new products coming.

One is a heavy duty pneumatic linear detection tube designed for very harsh climates.

We have a new driver indication system coming in early 2026, which brings more features than before.

There are a couple of other products in development that we will talk about later.

Because growth has been strong, 2026 is about adding more products and more approvals to support the next phase.

Sonic Fire Tech rolls out fire suppression system for residential wildfire defence

Fire suppression for homes without water

Sonic Fire Tech has announced the commercial rollout of its Sonic Home Defense system, a residential wildfire defence solution that uses infrasound technology and is designed to prevent ignition without water, chemicals or delay.

The company said the system is intended to detect and neutralise embers before they spark.

Sonic Fire Tech said the system uses low-frequency, inaudible sound waves.

The company said it has been named a CES 2026 Innovation Awards Honoree by the Consumer Technology Association for the system in the Smart Home product category.

Fire suppression approach focused on embers

Sonic Fire Tech said embers are the cause of over 90% of wildfire-related home ignitions.

The company said its Sonic Home Defense system provides protection “inside and out” without water, flooding or foam.

Sonic Fire Tech said the system aligns with Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety (IBHS) and California State Zone Zero Perimeter Defense guidelines for wildfire-prepared homes.

Installations underway in California communities

Sonic Fire Tech said its first installations are underway in Los Angeles, Santa Barbara and Lake Tahoe.

The company said it has received hundreds of homeowner requests for demonstrations.

Personal experience and commercialisation plans

Remington Hotchkis, Chief Commercialization Officer, said: “Wildfire danger isn’t abstract for me, it’s personal.

“When my former home in Altadena burned in the Los Angeles fires earlier this year, I saw firsthand that it wasn’t the wall of flame that destroyed homes, it was the embers.

“In that moment I realized that this part of the global wildfire crisis is solvable.”

Sonic Fire Tech said Hotchkis developed a commercialisation plan through an MIT entrepreneurship competition and later joined forces with Geoff Bruder and Sonic Fire Tech to bring the technology to homeowners in California.

Design, power resilience and app controls

Sonic Fire Tech said the system can be installed with concealed ducting through gutters or attics.

The company said the system is designed to operate off grid during power outages via backup batteries.

Sonic Fire Tech said homeowners can receive alerts and use remote control through the Sonic Alert App.

Industry and government comments on wildfire risk

Geoff Bruder, CEO and co-founder, said: “Across California, homeowners who live in fire zones face skyrocketing insurance costs, canceled policies, and stricter building codes.

“These technologies play a vital role in bringing cost-effective wildfire risk reduction solutions to homeowners.”

Ricardo Lara, California State Insurance Commissioner, said: “As insurance companies are retreating from the state, we’re at a critical point where the department has finally embraced technology.

“We can’t have innovators siloed, because we want to hear and know about your technology.

“We need to be at the forefront of this innovation.”

California demo events start in November

Sonic Fire Tech said community demo events begin in November across California.

The company said homeowners, homeowners’ associations and builders can sign up to reserve a live demonstration via its website.

What this means for wildfire protection planning

Fire and rescue leaders, emergency management teams and wildfire prevention coordinators may monitor how waterless, fixed residential systems are being positioned to reduce ember ignition risk at the property level.

Fire-protection contractors, system installers and building services engineers may assess how concealed ducting routes through gutters or attics affect survey work, installation sequencing and maintenance access.

Facility and community stakeholders, including homeowners’ associations and builders operating in California fire zones, may track how backup battery operation during power outages and app-based alerts are being packaged for residential use.

Insurance and risk professionals may note the public comments included in the announcement, alongside references to IBHS guidance and California State Zone Zero Perimeter Defense guidelines, when considering mitigation measures described for wildfire-prepared homes.
