Rosenbauer has unveiled two new power generators: the RTE PX 14 Basic and the RTE PX 14 Super Silent. These next-generation power generators, as reported on the company’s official site, are significant enhancements of the successful RS 14 series, inheriting their predecessors’ functionalities and performance characteristics while notably taking a significant step towards sustainability, with much of the units now recyclable.

This commendable sustainability achievement was realised by substituting the previously used glass-fibre reinforced plastics (GFRP) with aluminium parts. These GFRP components, originally incorporated for weight and aesthetic considerations, are now successfully replaced without any compromise on performance.

RTE PX 14 Super Silent: A boon for environmental and public health

The newly launched power generator from Rosenbauer also stands out for its commitment to environmental sustainability. The RTE PX 14 Super Silent model is specifically designed with a sound-optimised stainless steel exhaust system and a noise-absorbing shell. The drive unit utilises a 2-cylinder 4-stroke engine with injection technology for optimal control and efficient operation, resulting in low fuel consumption, estimated at 6 litres per hour at full load.

The power generator is designed to be user-friendly and can be operated safely across its full range of functions. The display provides all the necessary operational information, including total load, load distribution, and fuel level.

Sustainable firefighting products: RTE PX 14

Developed and manufactured in-house by Rosenbauer, the RTE PX 14 power generators are made from high-quality and resistant materials to withstand the extreme stresses during operation.

The generators meet all DIN 14658-1 requirements, making them ideal for firefighting operations. They feature several connection options to cater to various consumer needs at the operation site.

Vienna acquires two electric firefighting vehicles in a drive towards sustainability

The City of Vienna’s Fire Department and Civil Protection has recently procured two cutting-edge electric firefighting vehicles, strengthening their commitment to sustainability and environmental consciousness. This development was unveiled at the Landstrasse fire station by Peter Hanke, Vienna’s City Councilor for Fire Services, Fire Director Mario Rauch, and Andreas Zeller, the Chief Sales Officer of Rosenbauer International AG.

Almost 120 years ago, Vienna’s Professional Fire Department made history by incorporating the first electric fire truck into their fleet. This seminal electric vehicle, currently preserved and maintained in working condition by the Vienna Fire Brigade Museum, was presented alongside the current collection of electric vehicles from the city’s fire department.

Unveiling the future of firefighting with electric Basic Firefighting Vehicles (BLFs)

The new Basic Firefighting Vehicles (BLFs) are powered by a high-capacity 66 kWh battery, neatly housed at the bottom of the vehicle. With two electric motors, these vehicles can produce a whopping 360 kW of peak electric drive power. In anticipation of longer missions or potential power outages, these BLFs come with a 225 kW Energy Backup System (EBU) and successfully blend the capabilities of both rescue and tank firefighting vehicles.

“Thanks to its high level of professionalism, the Vienna Professional Fire Brigade rightly ranks among the best emergency services in the world. By gradually switching to environmentally friendly vehicles, it is also making a contribution to a climate-neutral Vienna. The vehicles’ rollout comes after eight years of development, which Andreas Zeller describes as a “challenge as big as the development work behind it.” He also emphasised their redundant energy supply, which makes these BLFs “particularly crisis-proof firefighting vehicles,” enabling “virtually emission-free operations.”

Equipping the future of firefighting

These state-of-the-art vehicles are not just about emission-free operations; they also herald a new approach to the equipment onboard. The objective was to replace corded or combustion engine devices with battery-powered ones, subjecting new products to practical tests in everyday operations.

“The BLF concept is holistically innovative. The basic idea of those responsible for tactics and technology was to expand the vehicle’s range of applications and make it as universal as possible. The firefighters are already looking forward to testing the new vehicles, equipment and technologies in their everyday work. The feedback we receive from them is and always has been a key driver for further development and improvement of the vehicles and equipment,” expressed Fire Director Mario Rauch.

The innovative BLFs, with dimensions of approximately 7,800 x 2,350 x 3,200 mm and a total weight of 16,000 kg, sport a 4×4 Rosenbauer RT Basic chassis with selectable ride levels for comfortable entry and ergonomic removal. They are equipped with an electric drive system and an Energy Backup System, and also feature an impressive extinguishing technology setup, including a built-in pump, water tank capacity of 2,000 litres, foam tank capacity of 100 litres, and a water cannon for water and foam operation on the cabin roof. They also possess an electrohydraulic cable winch and an integrated generator for external equipment.

Broadening the choice of boots for firefighters

Rosenbauer, a renowned provider of safety equipment, has announced the launch of two new additions to its range of protective footwear: the B2 and the B3 Cross. These innovative boots, designed with the needs of the wearer in mind, are set to augment the existing line-up of mid-priced options. The new models are certified to the rigorous EN 15090 F2A HI3 CI AN SRC standards, affirming their ability to provide optimal protection and comfort.

Enhanced design for maximum comfort and adaptability

According to the company: “The dynamic cut and the ergonomic construction guarantee a very high wearing comfort.” Four diverse entry and release systems enable the boots to be tailored perfectly to the wearer’s individual needs and conditions, allowing adjustments to the foot, ankle, and lower leg. The new boots are designed not only to meet operational conditions but also to accommodate the wearer’s anatomy and usage habits.

B2 boot: Quick-entry, lace-up option for the perfect fit

The B2 boot, replacing the soon-to-be-discontinued Tornado model, is a novel lace-up design featuring a quick-entry and two-zone lacing system. The unique lacing allows for different tensioning for the forefoot and leg, accommodating those with unequal proportions, such as wider forefoot and narrow ankle or stronger calves but narrow insteps. Once laced, the tension distribution is held constant with the aid of two lacing stoppers situated at ankle height. The B2 boot is ideally suited for everyday use and prolonged firefighting operations, as it can be rapidly worn and ensures an ideal fit.

B3 Cross boot: Lightweight, versatile choice for rescue operations

The B3 Cross, a short boot, stands out for its light weight — just 2.3 kg per pair in size 43 — and the reliable protection it offers up to the ankle, making it an excellent choice for rescue operations. The proven lacing system from its predecessor, the Twister-cross, features a tear-resistant stainless steel cord tightened and fixed with a push rotary knob, easily released when removing the boot. Its convenience over traditional lacing systems lies in one-handed operation and adjustability even in the thick of action. The B3 Cross suits those with relatively even anatomy.

Availability and unique features of the B2 and B3 Cross boots

Both the B2 and B3 Cross boots are available in sizes 36 to 52 and in widths 10 and 12. They will be available for purchase online from July and August respectively, and can be pre-ordered immediately via sales partners.

Rosenbauer unveils lightweight forest fire protection suit

A look at the latest innovation in fire safety, engineered for the toughest outdoor challenges

Rosenbauer has introduced the GAROS G10, their lightest protective suit yet, tailor-made for forest fire operations and technical assistance. There are two variations of this suit available: one exclusively for forest fire situations and another named the GAROS G10 TR, which is a combined forest fire and technical aid protection suit.

The GAROS G10 sets itself apart with its light weight, measuring less than 2kg for the complete set of jacket and trousers, and offers maximum mobility alongside excellent comfort.

Performance under heat

In terms of flame and heat resistance, the GAROS G10 adheres to forest fire standard EN ISO 15384, which pertains to outdoor firefighting and related activities. It also meets EN ISO 11612, which lays out requirements for protection against temporary high temperatures, such as sparks, falling branches, or heated objects. The THL version of the suit, GAROS G10 TR, additionally provides enhanced visibility as per EN ISO 16689.

Customised design for comfort

The new suit boasts a single-layer fabric structure composed of a viscose-aramid antistatic mixture, offering a comfortable feeling against the skin. Body heat is effectively channelled outwards thanks to the thin layer of fabric. Additional ventilation openings under the armpits aid in efficient heat and moisture dissipation. With an enhanced vapour permeability, the GAROS G10 outperforms waterproof fire protection suits by over four times.

Key to the GAROS G10’s comfort is its ergonomic design, referred to as Ergocut, which is influenced by Rosenbauer’s top products, the FIRE FLEX and GAROS G30. The suit has been meticulously designed to support movements, featuring preformed elbow and shoulder joint areas on the jacket, and stretch fabric in the armpit area to allow for unrestricted arm movement. The trousers are preformed in the knee area and specially reinforced for kneeling tasks.

The GAROS G10 is designed in a monochromatic theme (either black-blue or gold), while the combined forest fire and technical aid protection suit, the GAROS G10 TR, is two-toned (black-blue/yellow or gold/yellow), with a yellow shoulder area for enhanced visibility under low light conditions.

Two equipment variants are available – a standard and a premium one, with the latter equipped with extra features such as collar adjustment, sleeve width adjustment, and leg width adjustment. Both suits come in a wide range of finely tuned sizes and lengths. The new protective suits will hit the market in early July.

Rosenbauer restructures service areas in Europe

Rosenbauer has announced that, as of 1 January 2023, it has restructured its service areas by combining Western and Eastern Europe (formerly NISA and CEEU) into a single EUROPE area.

The firefighting vehicle manufacturer said aim of this is, among other things, to further exploit the synergies between the service locations and to facilitate comprehensive service concepts.

With 16 Service Centers across the region, Rosenbauer Customer Service said it will ensures proximity and commitment to the customer in order to offer reliable, top notch, and transparent service for all Rosenbauer products. For unrestricted availability and constant optimisation.

‘Just a starting point’

Markus Brunner, Head of the Europe Service Area, explained: “With the reorientation of sales and service in the new EUROPE area, we can now respond to market requirements in an even more targeted manner.

“Across our 16 service branches at present and the mobile service teams, supported by the spare parts warehouses, training centers and helpdesk specialists at all production locations, more than 250 Rosenbauer service employees currently form a service network across Europe that is unrivaled in the fire service industry. In addition to this, several service partners further expand our coverage.

“However, this is just a starting point, not least because of the rapidly increasing volume of Rosenbauer products in these markets, but also when considered against the background of new technologies and changing customer needs.

“Constant further development – in the area of training and number of technicians, infrastructure, and service centres, but also in market-specific and individual service offers – is critical in this regard. Rosenbauer Wins Collective Tender in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania

Rosenbauer has again been entrusted with the manufacture and delivery of firefighting vehicles by the State Office for Central Tasks and Technology of the Police, Fire Protection, and Disaster Control of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

After winning the contract for 265 portable water pump vehicles (TSF-W) three years ago, the new order includes up to 40 fire engines (LF 20) in accordance with DIN 14530-11, the orders for 37 of which have already been confirmed.

The prototype vehicle will be produced in the first half of 2023, with series production beginning after its acceptance. From 2024, the firefighting vehicles will be handed over to the State Office in monthly instalments, with the State Office then distributing them to the individual fire departments.

Rosenbauer will equip the vehicles with a  AT body, one of the hallmarks of which is the integrated double crew cab with automatic revolving doors for safe entry and exit. The LF 20s are built on an MB Atego 150 AF chassis, with all-wheel drive and twin tires on the rear axle and a total permissible weight of 16 tons.

The extinguishing technology consists of a Rosenbauer N25 fire pump (FPN 10-2000), which can also be switched on while driving for pump & roll operation at walking speed, as well as the Rosenbauer RFC Admix Variomatic 12 pressure proportioning system (EN 16327), which can deliver up to twelve liters of foam compound per minute and supply three spray points with a continuously adjustable proportioning rate of between 0.1% (wetting agent operation) and 6%.

The water tank has a usable capacity of 2,500 litres, with the foam tank having a capacity of 120 litres. The extensive vehicle equipment also includes a NAUTILUS submersible pump, a FANERGY high-performance fan, an RS 14 SUPER SILENT power generator, and the new Rosenbauer RTE one-person reel hose.

A new training method

Rosenbauer is also breaking new ground with its portable fire pump vehicles. For the first time, as the result of a request from the State Office of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, vehicle training is offered online. This both saves the fire departments travel time and provides crew members with the opportunity to complete the training at any time.

After receiving personalised access to the Rosenbauer e-learning platform, drivers and machinists are familiarised with all the functions of the TSF-W and its operation through numerous and detailed videos, then complete a test at the end and receive a certificate to print out upon passing.

Berlin Fire Department orders more electric vehicles from Rosenbauer

The Berlin fire department is set to further reduce its fleet CO2 emissions by investing in more electric firefighting vehicles with a new order to firefighting vehicle manufacturer Rosenabuer.

The order includes four “Revolutionary Technology” (RT) models specially configured for Berlin as electric firefighting and rescue vehicles (eLHFs), which the fire department co-developed and realized together with Rosenbauer as part of a multi-year innovation partnership.

Following successful trial operation lasting thirteen months and involving three fire stations, at which 90% of the almost 1,400 deployments were “electric-only,” the Berlin fire department made its decision: This is the vehicle they want to take them into the future.

Around ten metric tons of CO2 equivalents were saved during trial operation compared with a diesel-powered firefighting vehicle, and savings as high as 16 metric tons or more of CO2 equivalents per vehicle and year of operation are potentially realistic.

The Berlin RT vehicle design supports precise deployment needs by offering high-quality fire extinguishing equipment that meets the requirements of a city fire department and comprises the N25 firefighting pump, which complies with FPN 10-2000, the RFC Admix Variomatic foam proportioning system and CAFS fire extinguishing technology, which complies with DLS 800.

In addition, the vehicle comes with not only on-board equipment for firefighting purposes but also a range of equipment for the myriad small-scale technical deployments. In terms of extinguishing agents, the vehicle transports 1,200 l of water and 100 l of foam concentrate; the crew comprises seven firefighters. 

In addition to the four RTs, Rosenbauer is also developing an electric equipment vehicle for the Berlin fire department. The specification and purchase of this vehicle type show that operational hygiene – especially clean/dirty separation immediately following firefighting operations – is becoming increasingly important.

The equipment vehicle for operational hygiene brings cleaning equipment and changing facilities to the scene of a fire; features an attachment that is divided into two for contaminated/clean clothing and can be accessed without needing to stoop; and is constructed on an electric series production chassis from Volvo. 

By ordering five new electric vehicles, the Berlin fire department is demonstrating once again that it is among the trend-setters in the world of firefighting. As a public institution, it sees itself as a role model that actively supports the sustainability management policy of the German capital’s city government and is keen to make its own significant contribution to the process of meeting the climate protection goals.

These goals include making Berlin carbon-neutral by 2045 at the latest and ensuring that the state administration, to which the fire departments also belong, is largely carbon-neutral by 2030. Converting the public fleets to alternative drive systems and drive energies is one of the most important actions in this respect. The fire departments alone (professional and volunteer services) operate around 1,000 vehicles.
