LGM splice kit introduced for linear heat detection connections

LGM Products has introduced the Signaline Splice Kit to enable secure connections between lengths of linear heat detection cable and leader cable.

LGM announced the release as part of its Signaline Linear Heat Detection (LHD) system accessories.

The splice kit is designed for applications where standard connection boxes or end-of-line enclosures cannot be secured to a surface.

These conditions can arise in installations such as solar systems or transformers where no suitable mounting surface is available.

The splice kit connects two cable lengths using two IP68 rated cable glands and a connector gasket.

The unit is lightweight and relies on the tensile strength of the linear heat detection cable to hold it in place.

It can be assembled quickly onsite to create a secure cable connection.

Environmental ratings and system compatibility

According to LGM Products, the Signaline Splice Kit provides IP68 and fire-rated protection.

The unit also carries UL approval and is UV rated for use in environments exposed to weather and environmental stress.

These ratings support compatibility with Signaline linear heat detection systems in applications where environmental protection and secure cable joining are required.

The splice kit expands the available connection options within the Signaline system where surface-mounted connection enclosures cannot be used.

LGM: Signaline LocatorPlus and LocatorPlus-EN achieve SIL 2 capability

Signaline has announced that its LocatorPlus and LocatorPlus-EN Linear Heat Detection Controllers have been independently assessed and confirmed capable for use in low demand mode safety functions up to, and including, Safety Integrity Level (SIL) 2.

The announcement was published by LGM Products, manufacturer of the Signaline linear heat detection range.

The Functional Safety Capability Statement covers suitability for low demand mode safety functions against the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) 61508 functional safety framework.

What the IEC 61508 assessment covered

In its published statement, LGM Products said the assessment was performed to IEC 61508 Edition 2, Parts 1 to 3 and evaluated random hardware failures and architectural constraints for both devices.

The results show SIL 2 architectural capability with a Safe Failure Fraction (SFF) of 92% for each model.

The analysis includes quantified dangerous undetected and detected failure rates for each controller.

The statement says the capability applies within low demand Safety Instrumented Functions (SIFs).

It adds that full SIF compliance requires system level verification across the sensor, logic solver and final element.

Product context and approvals listed

In the same statement, LGM Products described the Signaline LocatorPlus as a dual zone controller and alarm locator for Signaline FT, FT-R and FT-X linear heat detection cables.

It said the LocatorPlus carries third party approvals including UL, cUL and FM, alongside its SIL 2 capability statement for low demand SIFs.

LGM Products also described the Signaline LocatorPlus-EN as complementing the FT-EN cable family, providing dual zone monitoring and automatic alarm location in EN5428 approved systems, now supported by the same SIL 2 capability for low demand safety functions under IEC 61508.

The statement lists typical SIL 2 specification scenarios including industrial process areas with combustible materials such as conveyors, cable trays and service tunnels, plus energy and utilities infrastructure such as fuel storage sites and transformer galleries.

LGM Products said Signaline also holds approvals including VdS, UL, cUL, FM and UL EU, plus country specific approvals including Activfire, HKFSD, UAE CD and TFTF.

Semmco LPS highlights risks across prisons marine and freight rail

Semmco LPS highlights risks ahead of Health and Safety Event

Semmco Life Protection Systems (Semmco LPS), which will attend the Health and Safety Event at Birmingham NEC from 28 to 30 April 2026 at Stand 3/G1, has outlined how changing working environments are creating new risks across multiple sectors.

Semmco LPS said procedural changes, new materials and technologies, and developments in cleaner energy and electric transport are contributing to these risks.

Escape breathing apparatus was described as a regulatory requirement in relevant working environments and as equipment used to support safe evacuation from hazardous or oxygen deficient conditions.

Semmco LPS designs and manufactures short duration breathing apparatus intended for escape and working rescue in confined spaces and extreme environments.

Sector examples including prisons shipping and freight rail

Semmco LPS cited the prison system as one example, stating that 2,287 fires in prison cells were recorded in 2023.

Eighty percent of these incidents were attributed to vape pens.

Semmco LPS is working with HM Prison and Probation Service to provide its HEAD RPE/CSRE (Cell Snatch Rescue Equipment) escape breathing sets to prisons across England and Wales.

The contract includes user training and a managed refurb and maintenance programme.

Semmco LPS also referenced the global shipment of electric vehicles onboard ships and cited increased awareness of battery fire dangers during transport.

In freight rail transport, the company described the highest risks as being linked to hazardous goods and materials.

Semmco LPS said recent legislation changes in the USA mandate that EEBDs be available to employees working in freight train cabs transporting hazardous material “that would pose an inhalation hazard in the event of release during an accident.”

Product specifications and manufacturing expansion

Semmco LPS said its EEBD is a self-contained oxygen breathing apparatus with a 15 minute duration and no fit testing requirement.

Both the HEAD and EEBD devices are head worn short duration escape sets using potassium superoxide (KO2).

The products provide a constant oxygen supply for the duration required to escape hazardous environments.

Semmco LPS has opened a new manufacturing facility in Woking Surrey with dedicated production pods and a service and refurbishment area for the HEAD product.

Semmco LPS will exhibit at Stand 3/G1 at Birmingham NEC from 28 to 30 April 2026.

Meiko marks 10,000th M-iQ machine milestone in Offenburg

Meiko reaches 10,000 M-iQ machines

Meiko has completed the 10,000th machine in its M-iQ range, with the anniversary unit set for use at Gate Gourmet in Copenhagen Airport.

The machine was completed last December at the company’s headquarters in Offenburg, Germany.

It will operate as an M-iQ Cup machine capable of washing up to 10,500 reusable cups an hour.

Rapid and hygienic turnaround is important in airline and event catering where reusable items must return to service quickly.

The M-iQ conveyor dishwashing range was first launched in 2009 and introduced to the market the following year at Europa-Park.

During that launch event the Ehrlich Brothers, a German magic duo, presented the machine live on stage to an international audience of industry experts.

Since then the series has been developed with versions designed for different sectors that require high throughput washing systems.

Recent additions include the M iFlow IPB automation module, which was introduced to help address staff shortages and increase operational efficiency.

The company is also studying applications of AI-supported automation within the range.

Meiko technology is also used in sectors that require high standards of hygiene for specialist equipment, including systems used to wash firefighter personal protective equipment and breathing apparatus components.

Meiko marks the milestone in Germany and Denmark

Employees gathered in Offenburg on 22 January for a “warewashing festival” to mark the completion of the 10,000th M-iQ machine.

The event included a winter barbecue and a gathering in the company restaurant despite temperatures of -2°C.

Dr.-Ing. Thomas Peukert, CEO of the Meiko Group, said: “Internally, the project was known as MGM, which in German stands for the ‘mother of all large machines’, whereby “mother” referred to the platform concept realised for large machines.

“And the launch was a truly memorable event – technically challenging, it attracted international attention and kept the audience in suspense until the very last moment.”

“The M-iQ is an example of teamwork at its best,” he added.

The anniversary machine was formally handed over in Denmark at the end of January.

At the beginning of February, representatives from Gate Gourmet’s headquarters in Zurich visited Offenburg where they received a miniature model of the machine alongside a certificate of appreciation.

Peukert said: “We were keen for Gate Gourmet to share in the celebrations.

“And we wanted to thank them for the close partnership between our two companies.”

The visit connected the production milestone in Offenburg with the machine’s installation for catering operations at Copenhagen Airport.

HMICFRS fire and rescue inspections evaluation: Key findings, outcomes and sector impact

HMICFRS evaluates fire and rescue service inspections

His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS) has published an evaluation of its fire and rescue service inspection programme, focusing on the second inspection cycle carried out in 2021 and 2022.

The report assesses whether inspections were implemented as intended, what outcomes inspection activity is producing, and what HMICFRS has changed in response to the evaluation findings.

What the inspection programme is

HMICFRS inspects all 44 fire and rescue services (FRSs) in England against three pillars: effectiveness, efficiency and people.

Inspections produce graded judgments and may also identify causes of concern, recommendations, areas for improvement and promising and innovative practice, with findings communicated through a service debrief and then a published inspection report.

The evaluation published now looks only at the second inspection cycle, which ran from February 2021 to December 2022.

HMICFRS notes that inspection processes described in the evaluation are historical and relate to 2021 to 2022, and that there have been other changes since that are outside the scope of this report.

Why HMICFRS carried out the evaluation

HMICFRS frames the work as part of assessing its own performance as an inspectorate, alongside scrutiny of the services it inspects.

His Majesty’s Inspector of Fire & Rescue Services Roy Wilsher OBE QFSM writes that evaluating how inspections are carried out is needed “to understand their impact and to continue to make improvements for future inspection cycles.”

He adds: “This approach will also reassure the public we are holding ourselves to account and shining a light, not only on the fire and rescue services (FRSs) and police forces we inspect, but also on how we carry out those inspections.”

HMICFRS also says the findings have already fed into changes to inspection processes and have been considered in planning later inspection cycles.

How the evaluation was carried out

HMICFRS’s Insight portfolio, described as its analytical and research unit, evaluated the second inspection cycle over a two-year period between April 2021 and March 2023.

The evaluation used a mixed-methods, self-reported, theory-based design built around a theory of change for inspections.

Data collection included interviews, focus groups and surveys with service staff, focus groups with HMICFRS inspection and portfolio staff, interviews with sector stakeholders including the National Fire Chiefs Council, the Home Office and unions, observations of meetings and events, and analysis of administrative data.

HMICFRS says the findings are mostly qualitative and reflect participants’ perceptions, and are not necessarily representative of all services or stakeholders.

Quantitative inputs include analysis of around 52,000 evidence database entries from the 2021 to 2022 inspections and 11,486 responses to the staff survey used across the cycle.

Have inspections been implemented as intended

The evaluation assesses implementation across evidence gathering and judgment-forming, communication of findings, and staff wellbeing in both services and the inspectorate.

Evidence gathering and triangulation

HMICFRS describes its approach as collecting evidence from a broad range of sources, recording it in an evidence database, then triangulating evidence to form judgments and moderating grades to support fairness and consistency.

On triangulation by source, HMICFRS reports that “in 90 percent of cases the evidence relating to 1 inspection question came from at least 3 different types of inspection activity,” which it presents as assurance that multiple data sources are being used.

Inspectorate participants reported confidence in triangulating evidence, and the evaluation found inspection meetings such as moderation supported fairness and consistency when forming judgments.

At the same time, participants identified time and resourcing pressures, particularly around document review, data review and the time available for service liaison leads to consolidate evidence before presenting conclusions.

HMICFRS reports it changed the timetable in response, including adding “a dedicated two-week window to review documents and data before fieldwork” and reducing activity mid-fieldwork to support consolidation.

The evaluation also found inconsistencies in how triangulation was documented outside the evidence database, with service liaison leads taking different approaches.

HMICFRS says it introduced “a mandatory gap analysis template” to improve consistency in approach and documentation.

Perceptions of rigour and transparency

Internally, the evaluation describes scrutiny processes involving the same groups of HMIs, portfolio and inspection staff across all services to reduce bias and support consistency.

Moderation meetings are described as testing the rationale for grades and drawing comparisons with similar services, with HMIs playing a key role in scrutiny and context.

However, the evaluation records concerns from parts of the sector about robustness, linked to perceived lack of transparency, including uncertainty about how some evidence sources, such as the staff survey, contribute to findings.

The report also notes examples raised by participants of attempts to influence inspection activities, such as staff being “cherry picked” for focus groups, alongside HMICFRS’s position that triangulation, anonymous surveys and reporting lines help mitigate these risks.

Communication of findings

The report describes a sequence where senior leaders first receive an early debrief shortly after fieldwork, followed by a draft report shared for factual accuracy checking ahead of publication.

Some senior staff said they acted following the debrief, while others waited for the inspection report because they felt the debrief did not provide enough information to act on.

Participants generally praised reports as balanced and reflective of services, but some said reports were stronger at identifying issues than recognising positives and wanted more detail and context in the narrative to support understanding of the rationale for judgments.

A consistent criticism was the time taken to publish reports when they were released in three large batches, with a view that slow publication reduced impact because findings became out of date.

HMICFRS says it has since reduced the time between inspection and publication, and from the 2023 to 2025 cycle it scheduled inspections in smaller batches through the cycle to publish more quickly while maintaining quality in judgment-forming.

Staff wellbeing

Service participants said inspections “gave them a voice,” while also describing strains linked to balancing inspection requests with normal work, intimidation during fieldwork, and worries about anonymity or reprisal.

HMICFRS reports it strengthened processes to support service staff wellbeing, including routes to raise concerns through an inspection reporting line or by contacting the service’s HMI or chief of staff, and welfare support where concerns were raised.

For HMICFRS inspection staff, participants reported feeling supported, while also describing fatigue from overlapping inspections, timetables that did not allow for management tasks, and the burden of entering evidence into the database.

HMICFRS reports that analysis found most inspection staff were entering evidence outside typical working hours, with 69 percent doing so outside 7am to 7pm.

In response, HMICFRS says it reduced overlap by moving away from three large groups of inspections, reduced mid-timetable activity to support administration and evidence recording, and changed evidence database requirements to remove fields that added “no clear benefit” to judgment-forming.

Outcomes linked to inspection activity

The evaluation asks whether anticipated outcomes in the inspection theory of change are being achieved, based on feedback from services and stakeholders.

Participants described the inspection programme as a “lever”, “catalyst” or “driver” of improvement, while also describing inspections as one factor among several influencing change.

Services reflect and prepare

Service participants reported anticipating inspection and using the assessment framework to understand what will be examined, which helped them prioritise improvements and assess current performance.

Workforces also reported recognising inspection was approaching because they could see the service preparing.

Services learn about their own performance

Participants described inspections as an assurance process that “holds a mirror up to the service,” including surfacing overlooked issues and adding weight to known issues.

The report also records agreement among sector stakeholders and workforces that inspections identify good practice across the sector, with pride where practice was highlighted.

Services address findings and act on plans

A central mechanism described in the evaluation is services developing action plans in response to findings.

The report states that three quarters of respondents to the inspection staff survey agreed their service made positive changes as a result of HMICFRS inspection feedback, with variation between services.

The report provides the survey totals, showing 8,472 respondents agreed with the statement “My service has made positive changes as a result of HMICFRS inspection feedback,” while 3,014 disagreed.

On negative changes, 2,452 respondents agreed their service had made negative changes as a result of inspection feedback, while 9,034 disagreed.

Senior staff described action plans feeding into business planning, community risk management plans, strategy and budgeting, with tasks distributed across teams and individuals.

The workforce described observing positive changes linked to action plans, with one description quoted as the action plan being the “golden thread that runs through the service”.

The report also describes faster action where services received a cause of concern, with senior staff viewing these as particularly urgent and using them to focus leadership attention and, in some cases, support funding discussions when timing aligned with budget cycles.

Services learn from each other

Most participants reported reading inspection reports from other services, particularly those seen as similar or strong in an area, then applying learning locally, sometimes through direct relationships between senior leaders.

Stakeholders also described using national reporting, including themes and trends, to inform their own work.

Stakeholders hold services to account

The evaluation presents public reporting as a route to accountability, with senior staff describing having to “answer to” governance bodies about action after inspection.

Participants also linked accountability to scrutiny from media, the wider sector and communities once reports are public.

State of Fire and Rescue reports inform reform

The report describes the annual State of Fire and Rescue report as a national overview of inspection findings that highlights themes and trends across services.

Participants said it influenced strategic thinking, identified national themes, and helped support discussions about reform and funding, with the report referencing the 2022 Fire Reform White Paper as an example of reform activity participants connected to national themes.

What HMICFRS changed because of the evaluation

The evaluation sets out multiple changes HMICFRS says it has implemented in response to findings from the second cycle.

These include timetable changes to create more structured time for document and data review before fieldwork and evidence consolidation during fieldwork, plus limiting inspection teams so they typically do not include more than one short-term member.

They also include introducing a mandatory gap analysis template to standardise and evidence triangulation documentation.

On reporting timeliness, HMICFRS says it moved away from publishing reports in three large batches and instead schedules inspections in smaller batches, from the 2023 to 2025 cycle onwards, to reduce time from inspection to publication.

On grading, the evaluation reports that some participants saw a large perceived gap between ‘good’ and ‘requires improvement’, and HMICFRS responded by introducing a fifth graded judgment, ‘adequate’, between ‘good’ and ‘requires improvement’, aligning with PEEL grading.

On staff wellbeing and workload, HMICFRS reports changes to reduce overlapping inspections, improve scheduling space for administration, and streamline evidence database requirements to reduce time burdens and out-of-hours working.

On sector engagement, HMICFRS reports strengthening expectations for at least monthly meetings between service liaison leads and services, and between HMIs and chiefs, to support structured and frequent communication.

On learning across the sector, HMICFRS describes work to increase sharing of positive practice, including making its monitoring system for tracking progress against causes of concern, recommendations and areas for improvement visible to all services, co-hosting positive practice events, and supporting the National Fire Chiefs Council positive practice portal.

What still limits impact, according to participants

The report describes barriers that participants said can limit the extent and pace of improvement following inspections.

These barriers include limited time to implement changes between inspection cycles, the practical load of inspection preparation, and constraints linked to report timing and inspection scheduling changes that reduce time to act.

Participants also described reduced capacity and competing priorities, including other sector demands from inquiries, policy work and guidance bodies, and financial pressures in services.

The evaluation also records a view that limited national prioritisation can restrict sector-wide reform momentum, with some senior staff wanting stronger pressure at national level to support reform.

Finally, participants discussed “diminishing returns over time”, with a view that repeated inspection programmes can deliver less additional impact as earlier improvements bed in, and HMICFRS responds by saying it consults on priorities between cycles and that the 2025 to 2027 programme has increased focus on governance, culture, misconduct and leadership.

Ongoing evaluation and performance monitoring

HMICFRS says it has published evaluations of other inspection programmes and of remote inspection methods, and that it monitors progress against all areas for improvement, causes of concern and recommendations through its monitoring portal.

It also says it used findings on how impact is achieved to develop metrics to monitor its own performance, risk and assurance, which are reported regularly to the HMICFRS board.

What the evaluation means in practice

For services, the evaluation points to inspections operating through several linked mechanisms: preparation against a known framework, external assurance that validates and prioritises internal improvement agendas, action planning tied into governance and budgets, and public reporting that increases accountability.

For HMICFRS, the evaluation describes a programme that depends on rigorous evidence collection and triangulation, with credibility shaped by both internal processes and how clearly the sector understands those processes.

The report also positions relationships as part of delivery, with participants pointing to the service liaison lead relationship as “vital” for services understanding findings and moving from report content to implemented change.

Hochiki installs bespoke detection system at Willis Aviation’s Teesside base

A bespoke fire detection solution from Hochiki Europe has been installed at Willis Aviation Services’ maintenance base at Teesside International Airport, covering Hangars 7 and 8 across 45,000 m².

Hochiki said the project was delivered with local life-safety specialist Render Alarms, which designed and installed a tailored system built around Hochiki intelligent detection technology.

The site includes hangars, workshops and office space.

The case study described engineers working with high-value aircraft and potentially flammable materials.

System design and devices specified

The installation centres on Hochiki’s ESP intelligent fire detection system, described as offering open-protocol flexibility and performance aligned with the forthcoming BS 5839-1 2025 standard.

In office environments, adjustable smoke and heat detectors were specified, described as supporting reliable detection and reducing unwanted alarms.

In workshop areas, wall-mounted sounder beacons were installed to provide visual alerts in high-noise conditions.

For hangar voids, Hochiki’s FIRElink aspirating detection system was specified, described as using laser-based technology to monitor large areas with enhanced sensitivity and reduced maintenance requirements.

Render Alarms’ installation team used specialist design software to optimise the aspirating pipe network around the hangar’s structural framework, with the case study describing this as supporting coverage and compliance.

Luke Render, from Render Alarms, commented: “Hochiki’s bases are a gamechanger, one base fit all devices.”

The case study described sensors twist-fitting onto bases as part of the installation and commissioning approach.

OroraTech appoints Dr Ignacio Zuleta as Chief Technology and Product Officer

OroraTech has appointed Dr Ignacio Zuleta as chief technology and product officer (CTPO), the company announced on 17 February 2026 in Munich.

In the role, Zuleta will lead the company’s technology strategy and execution as it continues work on persistent thermal activity monitoring.

His remit includes end-to-end technology deployment spanning thermal sensor and product deployment, edge data processing, and real-time connectivity.

Zuleta said: “Earth Observation is finally entering a defining moment. Persistent, purpose-built, thermal-first systems are no longer optional if we want to understand, predict, and manage extreme events like wildfires, resource conflicts, and climate change at a planetary scale.

Before joining OroraTech, he worked on what the company described as the first large-distributed Earth observation constellations, including the world’s first daily high-resolution land-monitoring mission.

The company said his career has included senior technical and product leadership roles across the Earth observation ecosystem, with experience in instrument design, payload operations, remote sensing science, and commercial data products.

It said he holds a doctorate in physical chemistry from Stanford University.

Technology priorities and company focus

HMICFRS outlines updated inspection programme for fire and rescue services covering 2025 to 2027 cycle

His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary and Fire & Rescue Services (HMICFRS) has announced its latest fire and rescue service inspection programme, covering the inspection cycle from 2025 to 2027.

HMICFRS said the programme operates on a two-year cycle, which is the time required to inspect each of the 44 fire and rescue services in England.

The inspectorate gathers evidence throughout the cycle using a range of methods to help make sure the inspection programme reflects changes in fire and rescue and lessons learned from previous inspections.

This process also enables inspectors to examine challenges affecting services and adjust inspection priorities accordingly.

Updated inspection areas include leadership and governance

The updated inspection programme retains changes introduced in the previous cycle and introduces additional areas of focus, HMICFRS said.

It said there will be a greater emphasis on leadership across fire and rescue services, including leadership at every level.

Inspectors will assess Fire and Rescue Authorities’ governance, oversight and scrutiny of their services, including how efficiently services manage projects such as rebuilding or relocating fire stations.

The programme will also apply deeper scrutiny to values, culture and misconduct, building on thematic work examining how misconduct is identified and handled.

Inspectors will assess how services support community resilience, including their work with local communities to prevent fires.

Assessment framework and grading structure

HMICFRS said the inspection programme is a regular assessment of fire and rescue services in England, examining effectiveness, efficiency and how well services look after their people.

Services are assessed against ten core questions covering management of risk, prevention, regulation, response to emergencies and multi-agency incidents, resources, workplace culture, development, fairness and diversity and leadership.

Each area is graded as outstanding, good, adequate, requires improvement or inadequate.

Roy Wilsher, His Majesty’s Inspector of Fire & Rescue, said: “Our inspection programme must evolve to reflect the challenges facing fire and rescue services.

“The changes we have made for this cycle build on what we have learned from previous inspections and focus on the areas where we know improvement is most needed, including governance, leadership and community resilience.

SOCOTEC says apprenticeships programme supported 450 staff across five years

SOCOTEC UK & Ireland has reported an investment of around £2 million in apprenticeships over the past five years, supporting more than 450 employees on programmes.

The company’s update said it ended 2025 with 130 new apprentices starting in the year, which it described as its highest annual intake so far.

It added that it currently has more than 200 active apprentices and more than 120 managers supporting them.

Courses, providers and staff progression examples

The company said its apprenticeship programmes span 50 different courses delivered through 26 apprenticeship providers, covering early career professionals as well as employees looking to change roles or build skills at different career stages.

It highlighted Lee Dando’s progression after joining SOCOTEC in 2017 as a Rig Co-ordinator, with the business stating he moved through business improvement manager roles before becoming Field Operations Director in early 2025.

Dando said: “I’m 53 now and have been in the industry since I was 17 years old.

“It’s taken me a while to become a director, but it’s only taken me eight years to become a director at SOCOTEC.

“However, you don’t just become a director, that’s where SOCOTEC stepped in and trained me to be ready for this challenge.

“To become a director in just eight years illustrates SOCOTEC’s commitment to recognising and developing talent.

“The business saw my potential and essentially said to me, ‘If you want to grow, we will support you’ – that is a testament to the business, not just me.”

SOCOTEC said Dando now oversees areas including the Field Services Team, which it described as comprising the drilling division, bio-remediation and plant, plus depot operations and logistics.

It also shared the experience of Nathan Finnan, Senior Site Engineer at SOCOTEC UK & Ireland, describing how he pursued further professional development with the company’s support after working in groundworks, site supervision and project coordination.

Finnan said: “I lost my grandfather recently, and it really made me think about what I want to achieve in my career.

“You could say I should have done it when I was younger, but I’m doing it now, and that’s what matters.

“Better late than never, as they say.

“One thing I’ve learned is that you’re never too old to develop new skills or take on new challenges.”

SOCOTEC said Finnan is working towards a Senior Project Manager role and shared his advice for others considering development.

Finnan said: “Don’t wait for the perfect moment to pursue your goals.

“Life has a way of reminding you that time is precious.

“If you want to develop your career, start now.

“Learn new skills, build relationships, and don’t be afraid to take on challenges.

“You’ll surprise yourself with what you can achieve.”

External recognition and graduation event

SOCOTEC said its learning and development activity has been recognised through a Gold rating in The 5% Club and a Great Place to Work Rating in 2025.

It added that it was also recognised in The Sunday Times Top 100 Apprenticeship Employers list last year.

The company said it held its third annual Earn and Learn graduation ceremony at the Pirelli Stadium in Burton-upon-Trent, recognising 85 employees who completed learning and development courses.

It said the event also marked the global launch of SOCOTEC’s Blue Academy, a learning and development initiative intended to expand growth opportunities for staff.

C-TEC sets up CAST team for cause and effect programming support

C-TEC CAST support team announced

C-TEC has formed a specialist CAST technical support team to support its own-protocol CAST life-safety systems, including complex cause and effect programming and pre-project planning.

The company introduced the team as Alex Riley, Sam Rudd and Jake Field, and said the group will also provide personalised on-site technical support.

Riley has been at C-TEC for four years and has worked in the technical support department.

Rudd was initially employed as an SMT process engineer and has been with the company for three years.

Field previously worked in Manufacturing and is described as the newest member of the team.

Terry Gordon, Engineering and Technical Support Manager at C-TEC, said: “The new CAST technical support team means faster and more efficient technical support for our customers.

“Alex, Sam and Jake were chosen for their technical and people skills and willingness to assist in any situation.

“I am thrilled to have them on board.”

The company said Riley, Rudd and Field also host ZFP and XFP addressable fire system training at its manufacturing facility in Wigan.

The same statement said they also deliver off-site training for customers in the UK and overseas when needed.

C-TEC outlines related technical support changes

C-TEC also said it has introduced other initiatives to boost technical support services.

The company said this includes a dedicated technical support telephone number, a cloud-based AI-enabled call logging software system and the appointment of additional technical experts to strengthen the existing team.
