The company said the unit is intended for lower-risk applications to house batteries categorised as ‘green’ or low risk by the Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations (DSEAR) assessment.

It is described as providing environmental protection and basic electrical safety for storing smaller quantities of batteries in lower-risk scenarios.

The Green Battery Store is available in sizes from 8’6″ to 40ft.

The unit’s listed features include aluminium louvre vents, fire-resistant board linings, an HVAC system and an anti-vandal multi-locking personnel door.

A specialist team from the Belluno Provincial Fire Brigade equipped personnel with connected gas and radiation detection systems from Blackline Safety for Winter Olympics safety operations in Northern Italy.

The team is focused on nuclear, biological, chemical and radiological risks.

It is tasked with checking Olympics sports venue safety across the Milan-Cortina region before the public is allowed entry.

The devices are being used for pre-event venue sweeps and live event monitoring.

The aim is to safeguard athletes, spectators and staff from threats such as toxic gases and radioactive agents.

The Brigade is using 40 Blackline Safety G7c wearable gas detection devices.

The G7c devices monitor a range of toxic gases and volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

The team is also using six EXO 8 area monitors.

Half of the EXO 8 monitors include added Gamma radiation detection.

The team uses the devices to check for contaminants before doors open.

It also uses the technology to define boundaries around areas that could potentially be affected by gases or radioactive agents.

G7c detectors are worn by Brigade crew members inside venues during events.

They are also used outside in streets and the Olympic village.

The Belluno Provincial Fire Brigade is part of the larger Fire Department of Veneto and Trentino Alto Adige, a division of the National Fire, Public Rescue and Civil Defence Corps of Italy (Dipartimento dei Vigili del Fuoco, del Soccorso Pubblico e della Difesa Civile).

Milliken says independent testing supports non-PFAS turnout gear evaluation efforts

Independent laboratory testing has found no detectable PFAS in samples of Milliken fabrics used in firefighter turnout gear, based on analysis conducted by Forever Analytical.

The company said it engaged the independent laboratory specialising in screening products and environmental samples for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) to test fabric samples representing all three layers of turnout gear.

Samples of Milliken Assure (moisture barrier), Milliken Horizon (outer shell) and Milliken Equinox (thermal liner) were tested in December 2025.

Forever Analytical screened the textile samples for total fluorine as an indicator of PFAS and for bromine as an indicator of brominated flame retardants.

Across all samples tested, fluorine levels were below the laboratory’s method detection limit.

Bromine was not detected above the laboratory’s reporting threshold of 100 parts per million in any sample tested.

“We’re talking to department leaders every week, and in recent months we’ve seen an increase in questions about transitioning to non-PFAS materials,” said Marcio Manique, SVP and Managing Director for Milliken’s apparel business.

“While we have full confidence in our internal testing and NFPA certifications, we also know that independent data would give the industry added confidence as departments evaluate newer, non-PFAS materials.”

Milliken said it will make the reports available to any fire department that requests a review of the findings through its website.

Requests must include ‘Forever Analytical’ in the request for the reports, the company said.

Milliken said it works with every major turnout gear manufacturer and supports departments across the United States.

PFAS have drawn increased attention within the fire service due to reports of their persistence in the environment and potential health impacts.

As of January 2026, 18 states have introduced or adopted legislation addressing the acknowledgement, purchase and use of PFAS in firefighter gear.

Milliken said it removed the use of PFAS in fabrics developed for the fire service industry in 2021 and that its non-PFAS fabrics are available through every major turnout gear manufacturer.

The British Standards Institution (BSI) announced that the Draft for Public Comment is intended to support work responding to Recommendation 40 of the Grenfell Tower Inquiry Phase 2 report.

What BS 750 covers and what the amendment proposes

BS 750 specifies requirements for surface box frames and covers, including how they are designed, manufactured and tested to deliver reliable performance.

The standard is intended to provide a consistent technical framework for manufacturers, water companies and fire and rescue services, supporting durability, compatibility and effective operation.

The revised document is intended to provide greater clarity and strengthened requirements within the standard.

The proposed amendment aims to improve clarity in definitions and figures so the measurement of the flow coefficient is clearly described, in line with the Grenfell Tower Inquiry recommendation published in September 2024.

It also strengthens requirements for third-party verification and certification, alongside enhanced technical specifications designed to support greater consistency, transparency and accountability across the industry.

The Draft for Public Comment is being promoted initially to existing users of BS 750, with wider industry engagement to follow.

Insight Training outlines thermal maintenance checks for TIC users

Thermal imaging camera checks for daily readiness

Insight Training has published maintenance guidance for fire departments using thermal imaging cameras, setting out daily checks and handling steps intended to reduce the risk of equipment failure and extend service life.

In a blog article by Andrew Starnes, the company said one of the most common causes of thermal imaging camera malfunction is poor care and maintenance.

The guidance says a designated crew member should inspect each device daily to confirm it is operational and free from visible defects.

That process starts with powering on the camera and checking that it starts fully within 30 seconds.

If start-up takes longer, the unit may need to be returned to the manufacturer for servicing.

The article adds that cameras stored below freezing or above 104°F may take longer to power up.

Battery status should also be checked during the inspection.

Most units display a four-bar battery indicator, with each bar representing at least 30 minutes of operating time.

Newer models may offer up to six hours of battery life, although power use can rise when functions such as flashlights, recording or transmission are active.

Users are advised to remove the battery and inspect charging contacts for dirt or damage.

Where a truck-mounted charger is used, both the charger contacts and camera contacts should be cleaned with an alcohol wipe.

Soap, water and solvents are not recommended for those components.

The lens should also be inspected for scratches or chips that may affect image quality.

A flashlight may be needed during this check because defects can be difficult to spot on lenses with diamond coating.

Operators are then advised to scan the surrounding area for signs of detector problems, including image ghosting, static lines on the screen or black dots that remain visible after scanning.

The guidance says black dots can appear after exposure to intense radiant heat sources such as the sun, arc welders or plasma cutters.

It also advises crews to confirm that application modes, recording functions and the default reset function are all working correctly during the scan test.

A radio frequency interference test is also recommended as part of the daily check.

This involves keying a portable firefighter radio next to the camera to confirm that transmissions do not affect the display.

For devices produced since 2013, the test should show no visual interference.

If the display freezes or shows white static, the unit may have damaged or incorrectly installed electromagnetic interference coatings and should be returned for repair.

Thermal handling and charging practices

Insight Training also sets out storage, cleaning and carrying guidance for thermal imaging cameras used in fire service operations.

Cameras should be returned to a charging dock, secured to self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) equipment or placed in another designated ready position after use.

The article warns against leaving units on hot surfaces or on vehicle dashboards in direct sunlight.

Camera housings should be cleaned with a mild soap solution.

It adds that pointing a device at radiant heat sources such as the sun, plasma cutters or high-powered lasers can damage the detector and void the warranty.

Signaline HD+ programmable linear heat detector has received approval from UAE Civil Defence, expanding its certification for use in fire detection systems.

According to LGM Products, the approval applies to the Signaline HD+ range, which launched in 2025 and allows users to programme alarm temperatures and reset the system after activation.

The detector supports both fixed temperature and rate-of-rise alarm settings.

Its pre-alarm function allows warnings at temperatures as low as 45°C.

The product already holds certification to EN54 standards and UL standards.

The additional approval confirms its eligibility for deployment in UAE Civil Defence-compliant fire detection systems.
