New Nightstick headlamp adds global safety certifications for hazardous work

Nightstick has announced the XPR-5552G, a USB-C rechargeable headlamp certified ATEX Zone 0 and Class I Division 1 Intrinsically Safe for hazardous work environments.

The company said the launch builds on the low-profile USB-4510 headlamp and adds global safety certifications in the same compact format.

The XPR-5552G includes tri-colour floodlight output with white, red and green modes.

Its right-hand switch controls high and low white settings and can also be held for a flashing white signal.

The left-hand switch changes between red and green output.

Nightstick said the red setting is intended to preserve night vision during low-light tasks and the green setting is intended to improve contrast and detail.

Nightstick specifications and mounting options

Nightstick stated that the headlamp runs at 200 lumens for up to eight hours on high and at 60 lumens for 40 hours on low.

The unit is made from PC/ABS polymer and carries an IP-67 rating for waterproof and dustproof protection.

The USB-210 produces 500 lumens on high for 1.5 hours and 130 lumens on low for 4 hours.

Its aluminium body measures 5.75 inches and is intended for use in tight spaces or shirt pockets.

The USB-200 is the smallest model in the range at just over 4 inches long.

It produces 300 lumens on high for 1.5 hours and 60 lumens on low for 4 hours.

The USB-205ZF Zoom Focus model adds an adjustable beam that shifts from a wide flood to a tight spotlight for close work or longer-range inspection.

It runs at 200 lumens on high for 3 hours and 30 lumens on low for 9 hours.

Each penlight includes a sliding sleeve over the USB-C port and a USB-C charging cable.

The range also includes a pocket clip for attaching the light to a uniform, clipboard or cap.

All three models include momentary and constant-on modes and are described as built for everyday job use.

Nightstick has announced the FORGE II, a compact fire helmet light released from Wylie, Texas, with a stated output of 350 lumens and 7,360 candela.

The company said the new model is its smallest fire helmet light so far and is based on the original FORGE.

The light measures 2.36 inches in length and weighs 3.4 ounces.

Nightstick said the unit is designed to reduce bulk when mounted above or below a helmet brim.

It is also described as providing visibility through smoke and steam at distances of up to 172 metres.

The company said the FORGE II is designed to fit MSA Cairns 1010/1044 helmets and other traditional fire helmets.

It is also intended to mount to full-brim hard hats used in wildland firefighting.

The supplier said there is a need for certainty around the fire performance of cables that are intended to operate during an incident.

According to the company, this applies across all fire performance cables, with particular attention on Category 3 fire performance cables designed to work for up to 120 minutes in heat and flame.

AEI Cables stated that these cables are used to help protect equipment, property and lives where critical circuits must continue to function during a fire.

Fire performance cable categories and typical applications

According to AEI Cables, Category 1 fire performance cables provide 30 minutes of resistance to flames.

According to the supplier, these cables are used for evacuation alarms for disabled occupants in care homes.

The company said they also serve emergency voice communications systems in relevant buildings.

Category 3 Control fire performance cables are further described as being used for voice alarm systems.

AEI Cables noted that systems powered by these cables can include smoke and heat extraction systems.

Firetec Enhanced approvals and code categories

AEI Cables reported that its Firetec Enhanced cabling has been approved and certified by the Loss Prevention Certification Board (LPCB) to BS8519 Annex B.

According to the company, Firetec Enhanced meets Category 3 Control requirements and also holds approval for Category 2 Control under BS8519.

The firm said the BS8519 Code of Practice contains six categories of cables.

AEI Cables stated that all of its products are supplied with approvals from independent bodies including the British Approvals Service for Cables (BASEC) and LPCB.

Streamlight has launched the Wedge SL, a USB-C rechargeable inspection light designed to offer high performance in a compact form.

According to the company, the Wedge SL provides users with a balance of portability and brightness suited to both professional and personal applications.

The light includes a tail switch for one-handed operation, offering momentary and constant-on modes.

High mode delivers 100 lumens with a 35-metre beam distance, while Low mode provides 50 lumens and a 24-metre beam distance.

The device also features THRO mode, which activates with a three-second press to produce 500 lumens of maximum output.

It is available in Black, Coyote and Silver finishes, measuring 14.35 cm long, 1.4 cm wide, 0.7 cm thick, and weighing 32.3 g.
