Streamlight expands emergency lighting portfolio with new ProTac series

Streamlight has announced two new high-intensity additions to its ProTac range, combining power, beam distance and durability for professional users.

The company launched the ProTac HP-X USB, the ProTac HP-X and the ProTac 2.0 HP, expanding its emergency lighting range for tactical, rescue and industrial applications.

All three handheld flashlights are designed to deliver focused beams and long-distance illumination, built to withstand demanding operational conditions.

ProTac HP-X and HP-X USB deliver focused high-candela beams

According to Streamlight, the ProTac HP-X USB and ProTac HP-X both produce 800 lumens and 105,000 candela, giving a beam distance of 648 metres.

The ProTac HP-X USB model includes a Streamlight SL-B26 rechargeable lithium-ion battery pack with an integrated USB-C charging port.

It provides up to 31 hours of run time and can recharge fully in five hours.

The ProTac HP-X version operates on two CR123A lithium batteries, offering flexibility for users who prefer disposable options and providing up to 24 hours of use.

Both models include a multi-function tactical tail cap switch with TEN-TAP programming, offering selectable modes including high/strobe/low, high only, or low/medium/high.

Each flashlight features an anti-roll face cap, a removable pocket clip, and a durable holster.

The lights are built from 6000 series machined aircraft aluminium with a Type II MIL-Spec anodised finish, making them impact-resistant to two metres and IP68-rated for dust-tight and waterproof operation.

ProTac 2.0 HP offers greater brightness and range

Streamlight said the new ProTac 2.0 HP produces 2,000 lumens and 85,000 candela, providing nearly five times the distance output of its predecessor.

The flashlight features three modes – High, Medium and Low – with run times ranging from 31 hours on Low to 2.5 hours on High.

Its strobe function offers a two-hour duration.

The ProTac 2.0 HP is powered by the Streamlight SL-B50 rechargeable lithium-ion battery with a sliding sleeve for access and an integrated USB-C charging port.

The battery includes LED indicators for charge status and a safety circuit to prevent overcharge or discharge.

Dineen said: “This latest addition to the ProTac series of tactical handheld lights provides first responders, security units, outdoor enthusiasts, and others a light that combines balanced brightness – both distance illumination and ultra-bright light – without sacrificing run times.”

He added: “Users will appreciate the convenience and ease of charging the battery pack either inside or outside of the light.”

The flashlight measures 15.5 centimetres in length, weighs 234 grams with the SL-B50 battery, and is IP67-rated for dust-tight and waterproof operation to one metre for 30 minutes.

Durable design across the ProTac series

All three lights share Streamlight’s emphasis on durability and operational versatility.

Each model is constructed from aircraft-grade aluminium and impact-tested to two metres, designed for professional use in search, security and emergency lighting scenarios.

The ProTac 2.0 HP and HP-X models include anti-roll heads, gasket-sealed lenses and holsters for field reliability.

Streamlight boosts portable scene light output to 10,000 lumens

Streamlight has announced major performance upgrades to its Portable Scene Light and Portable Scene Light EXT, nearly doubling brightness from 5,300 to 10,000 lumens.

The company said the rechargeable floodlights now feature a redesigned head with 12 LEDs and wide-pattern reflectors that create a uniform flood beam with three selectable light levels.

Streamlight President Michael F. Dineen said: “The Portable Scene Light family now delivers nearly twice the brightness, making it an even more effective tool for use at first responder scenes or demanding job sites.”

“It also allows users to achieve a high output of 10,000 lumens, an extended run time of up to 12 hours, and the ability to run indefinitely on AC or DC power.”

“Their rapid deployment, telescoping poles, and stabilising legs make them indispensable for fire fighters, utility workers, and industrial professionals.”

Three brightness levels for flexible operation

According to Streamlight, the upgraded models provide three brightness modes for varied scene requirements.

On the high setting, the lights deliver 10,000 lumens, 95,000 candela, and a 616-metre beam distance with a two-hour runtime.

The medium setting produces 5,300 lumens, 49,500 candela, and a 445-metre beam distance lasting four hours.

The low setting offers 2,000 lumens, 22,450 candela, and a 300-metre beam distance with a 12-hour runtime, supporting extended operations in the field.

Both units deploy in less than 30 seconds and feature a telescoping pole with a rotating head for elevated lighting.

Extended reach and rugged construction

The Portable Scene Light extends to 182.88cm, while the Portable Scene Light EXT reaches 213.36cm, offering greater elevation and reduced glare.

Streamlight said onboard stabilising legs maintain balance on uneven terrain and in high winds, improving usability for outdoor and emergency operations.

Both models operate using a rechargeable 12V sealed lead acid battery that is maintenance-free and rechargeable up to 500 times.

For longer use, the units can operate continuously when connected to an AC or DC power source.

Designed for extreme environments

The manufacturer confirmed that both lights are IP67-rated for dust-tight and waterproof performance, allowing submersion in up to one metre of water for 30 minutes.

Each model is housed in high-impact thermoplastic for improved resistance to harsh conditions and consistent stability in high winds.

The Portable Scene Light measures 57.15cm long and 16.51cm wide, weighing 11.7kg, while the Portable Scene Light EXT weighs 11.9kg.

Both designs collapse for compact storage and easy transport between sites.

Streamlight has launched the Sidewinder Compact III, a multi-fuel flashlight designed for diverse emergency and field applications.

The company said the model provides multiple LED colour options, a 185-degree tilting head, and compatibility with helmets and gear mounts.

It explained that the light is built to deliver high performance in a compact, rugged housing suitable for operational and maintenance environments.

Multiple LED options for specialised tasks

According to the company, the Sidewinder Compact III is available in user-configurable versions that allow users to select two of three colour LEDs – red, green or blue – in addition to standard white and infrared (IR) outputs.

The military version includes white, red, blue and IR LEDs, while the aviation version contains white, green, red and IR LEDs.

Each LED operates at several brightness levels and includes a strobe mode for visibility or signalling.

The light can be powered by either one AA alkaline or one 3-volt CR123A lithium battery, supporting flexible energy use across different field conditions.

Compact design with extended runtime and durability

Streamlight stated that the white LED provides up to 275 lumens and 3,200 candela on High with a beam distance of 113 metres.

Run time exceeds 70 hours on Low when using an AA battery and over 100 hours with a CR123A battery.

The colour and IR LEDs also offer long run times designed for night vision protection and targeted visibility.

The flashlight includes a compound On-Off mode selector switch that separates On-Off, dimming, strobe and LED-selection functions.

A rotary selector knob features a tactile IR indicator and a pull-to-turn locking mechanism to prevent accidental mode changes.

The Sidewinder Compact III uses an unbreakable polycarbonate lens with a scratch-resistant coating for improved durability.

Mounting compatibility and environmental protection

The company said the light includes a durable belt and gear clip with integrated helmet mounting features, fitting existing Sidewinder mount adapters.

A cord attachment hole supports loads up to 11 kilograms.

Constructed from high-impact nylon, the Sidewinder Compact III is impact tested to three metres and waterproof to one metre for 30 minutes under IPX7 standards.

It measures 7.9 centimetres in length and weighs 85 grams with a AA battery or 77 grams when using a CR123A lithium battery.

Can you tell us about your background, how you joined Streamlight and your focus in this role?

I’m an Industrial Engineer with an MBA from the Instituto de Empresa in Spain and I’ve been working in the personal safety industry for more than two decades.

I started my journey at SCOTT SAFETY back in 2006, where I managed various European territories and eventually led the entire regional operation.

From compliance to resilience, with ABB

For decades, emergency lighting systems were treated as little more than a regulatory checkbox – static, passive and often overlooked. Early systems lacked sophistication and reliability, designed merely to satisfy minimum compliance standards rather than actively support safety in a crisis.  

In the wake of Covid-19 and amid rising safety expectations, emergency lighting is undergoing a transformation. No longer an afterthought, it has long since become as a foundation for safety resilience, redefining how we design, operate and safeguard modern buildings.  

Drivers and disruptors 

A combination of regulatory, technological and demographic factors are all contributing to the development of smarter, more sustainable and more resilient solutions in The emergency lighting industry’s evolution. 

Regulatory pressures are among the biggest drivers. Across the globe, the introduction of more stringent safety codes and compliance requirements is raising expectations around performance, reliability and ease of maintenance.

One of the contributing factors driving the introduction of stricter regulations is aging infrastructure – increasingly susceptible to faults – which is creating additional urgency for reliable emergency lighting solutions that meet safety standards and perform in critical situations. 

Technological innovation is also enabling faster and more cost-effective compliance. Rapid urbanisation and operational pressure are also playing a role in reshaping expectations. With 68% of the world’s population expected to live in urban areas by 2050, demand is rising for robust systems that can safeguard high-occupancy spaces in the event of disruption, while also supporting business continuity.

As such building owners and operators are seeking out future proof solutions that not only meet compliance needs but also support broader operational resilience goals and reduce total cost of ownership. 

Together, these factors are shaping the design and functionality of today’s emergency lighting solutions, with a growing focus on energy savings, automation and integration. 

Sustainable, smarter and more integrated

IoT-enabled systems and automated testing tools are helping to ease the operational burden on facility management teams, especially as the industry contends with a global shortage of skilled technical labour. A 2024 ManpowerGroup report into the global talent shortage found that 75% of global employers are struggling to find the talent they need.  

IoT-enabled LED systems are a major growth driver for the emergency lighting market, with increasing adoption across the commercial and industrial building sectors.

When integrated with building management systems, the solutions enable remote, real-time monitoring and centralised control. Faults can be detected before they become critical, allowing for proactive maintenance, rapid response times and reduced operational costs. 

Automated self-testing systems can help to simplify the process, performing necessary checks and reporting on any issues detected without the need for manual intervention. However, it’s important to distinguish between standalone self-testing units, which still rely on manual status checks and fully monitored systems that offer centralised oversight, real-time diagnostics and streamlined compliance reporting.  

While both approaches ensure regulatory compliance, fully automated monitored systems also enhance overall reliability, delivering much-needed peace of mind to building operators and owners. AI may also play a growing role in this evolution, with future systems able to dynamically adapt their behaviour based on the specific nature and severity of an emergency. Instead of simply illuminating standard exit routes, AI-powered lighting could prioritise alternative paths, issue targeted voice or visual alerts in real time and even coordinate with fire alarms and emergency services to support a more effective response. 

Progress at pace 

The pace and nature of adoption differs significantly from country to country. These variations are influenced by regional regulations, infrastructure maturity, differing levels of risk tolerance, as well as the historical development of building safety standards.  

With a large construction sector, long-standing safety standards and a growing emphasis on energy efficiency, the US is a key player in the global emergency lighting sector.

According to a Research and Markets’ report, North America was the largest region in 2024, accounting for around a third of the global market share. While Europe is seen as setting the pace on regulatory pressure and carbon reduction targets, North America’s scale and investment continue to shape the industry’s development. 

Europe’s emergency lighting market generated $1.816 billion in revenue in 2024 – a figure expected to climb to $3.503 billion by 2030. This growth is driven by well-established regulations mandating effective emergency lighting in public buildings, alongside sustainable, energy-efficient solutions.  

In the Middle East and Asia, rapid urbanisation, ambitious construction projects, such as Saudi Arabia’s $500 billion NEOM megaproject and growing investment in smart technologies is fuelling demand for intelligent, integrated emergency lighting solutions.  

Latin America, by contrast, has been slower to adopt advanced emergency lighting systems, in part due to limited fire safety regulations. However, growing awareness of international best practices is leading to gradual adoption.  

Emergency lighting is no longer just about compliance; it’s become central to resilient building strategies worldwide. With industry embracing sustainability, digitalisation and integration, emergency lighting is stepping into a new role: an active, intelligent safeguard that supports building safety even in the most critical situations.
