Streamlight introduces multi-fuel tactical weapon lights for handguns

New tactical lighting options for firearms

Streamlight has launched new multi-fuel models in its TLR-8 series of laser-equipped tactical weapon lights.

The new models include the TLR-8 X with a red laser, the TLR-8 X G with a green laser, the TLR-8 X sub with a red laser, and the TLR-8 X G sub with a green laser.

These lights are designed for full-size, compact, and select subcompact handguns from manufacturers including GLOCK, SIG SAUER, and Springfield Armory.

The models offer the option of using either a CR123A lithium battery or Streamlight’s SL-B9 USB-C rechargeable battery pack.

Streamlight President and CEO Ray Sharrah said: “These new lights, like their originals, are designed to maximize shooters’ weapon platforms in a variety of home defense and tactical applications.”

Performance and features

The new TLR-8 X models produce 500 lumens and feature a high-power white LED with 5,000 candela output and a beam range of 141 metres.

They offer three lighting modes: LED Only, LED/Laser Combined, and Laser Only.

When using a CR123A battery, the run time is 1.5 hours for LED and LED/Laser mode, and 60 hours for Laser Only mode.

With the SL-B9 battery pack, the LED and LED/Laser modes run for one hour, and the Laser Only mode runs for 36 hours.

Each light has a customizable rear switch that allows ambidextrous operation and features a snap-on and tighten interface to enable mounting without placing hands near the muzzle.

Laser options and compatibility

The TLR-8 X and TLR-8 X sub models include a 640-660nm red aiming laser, while the TLR-8 X G and TLR-8 X G sub versions use a 510-530nm green aiming laser, which appears brighter to the human eye.

These models are designed to fit a variety of handguns, including the GLOCK 43X MOS, GLOCK 48 MOS, SIG SAUER P365 and P365 XL, Springfield Armory Hellcat, and multiple 1913 short-railed subcompact handguns.

Construction and durability

The new models are built from 6000 Series machined aircraft aluminium with a black anodized finish and have an IPX4 rating for water resistance.

The BOROFLOAT impact-resistant lens is designed to withstand heavy use.

The TLR-8 X and TLR-8 X G weigh 74.8 grams with a CR123A battery and 77.6 grams with the SL-B9 battery pack.

The TLR-8 X sub and TLR-8 X G sub weigh 78.5 grams with a disposable battery and 81.3 grams with the SL-B9 pack.

Keeping dust and water out

Ingress Protection (IP) ratings help flashlights perform reliably in harsh conditions filled with dust or moisture.

This involves placing the light in a sealed chamber where dust particles circulate continuously for 24 hours.

The flashlight is then connected to a vacuum pump to create suction, simulating worst-case conditions.

Afterward, technicians carefully inspect gaskets and other potential entry points to confirm no particles have penetrated the housing.

Water proofing is tested under similarly rigorous conditions.

Flashlights are exposed to high-pressure water jets or submerged to ensure seals remain intact and internal components are protected.

These tests validate IP ratings like IP67 and IP68, guaranteeing performance even in submerged or water-heavy environments.

In addition to IP ratings, certifications like ATEX and IECEx validate that flashlights are rigorously tested for both water ingress and the prevention of ignition in explosive atmospheres.

Streamlight launches Stinger 2020 S: a 2,000-lumen rechargeable work light

Streamlight has introduced the Stinger 2020 S, a rechargeable work light designed to deliver 2,000 lumens of brightness, as reported by Streamlight.

The Stinger 2020 S is equipped with a body-mounted switch featuring an intensity mode selector and battery status indicator.

Its ergonomic flat design and textured body provide improved grip during use.

Powered by a rechargeable Li-Ion battery, the device supports simultaneous charging of the light and an additional battery via its PiggyBack charging feature.

According to Streamlight Chief Revenue Officer Michael F. Dineen, the Stinger 2020 S builds on the original Stinger 2020 model with added functionality.

Dineen said: “This newest model features the added benefit of being compatible with a PiggyBack charger, which ensures users will never be without a spare battery when using the light for a full work shift.”

The light’s head-mounted on/off switch supports momentary or constant operation, while its mode selector offers high, medium, and low intensity settings.

High mode provides 2,000 lumens, 25,000 candela, and a 315-meter beam distance with a 2-hour run time.

Low mode extends the run time to 24 hours with 100 lumens and a 70-meter beam distance.

Design and durability features

The Stinger 2020 S is constructed from high-quality aluminium alloy and features a BOROFLOAT glass lens that is impact-resistant and gasket-sealed for added durability.

The device is IPX7-rated for water resistance, capable of submersion up to one meter for 30 minutes, and impact-tested to a height of two meters.

The light measures 19.53cm in length, weighs 346g, and is available in black.

As the inventors of Dual-Light, how does Nightstick separate itself from other lighting companies looking to adopt this tech?

Nightstick’s first Dual-Light product was a LED handheld designed in 2007.

While we knew we had something special back then, it wasn’t our desire to pioneer for the sake of innovation alone.

There had to be a focus on real world needs and bringing products to market that truly solve problems.

This is why we added Dual-Light across multiple firefighter product platforms: Angle Lights, Lanterns, and helmet lights.

 In both Europe and the U.S., slips, trips, and falls rank as the number one cause of workplace injury, accounting for approximately 20% of nonfatal incidents, emphasizing the need for heightened safety measures in diverse work environments.

It became evident there was a direct need for light at one’s feet and adding a secondary flood along with the high candela spot supercharged the visible coverage.

What came next was incorporating measures into our right-angle lights such as dual-switch buttons, with emergency responders having independent control when every second is at a premium.

This is a stark difference from being forced to cycle through modes from a single switch.

The freedom of separate switches for floodlight and spotlight allows the user to turn on what they need and keep off what they don’t.

In addition, a battery status indicator is placed on the top of the light fully in view at all times.

An indicator light on the front of an angle light strapped onto the jacket isn’t very helpful, as the user being unable to see battery status while handsfree is unrealistic.

Staying aware of current runtime is vital for peace of mind and ultimately getting the job done accurately and safely.

Saying you offer multiple lights on your product is not the same as intentionally designing multiple lights for the users’ application.

Don’t be fooled.

What role has feedback played in the design and engineering stage in fire and safety lighting?

Listening and responding to feedback from firefighters and first responders has been instrumental in shaping Nightstick’s product line.

Our Dual-Light technology was created from users’ needs for both spot and flood lighting in one device.

After launching products like the INTRANT® right-angle light and FORTEM® helmet light, ongoing feedback allowed us to refine features such as longer runtimes, brighter and more durable LEDs, and ease of use with separate switches, making sure our lights consistently meet the demands of today’s operations.

We also moved the additional floodlight LED higher up to avoid contact with the flashlight strap on turnout gear.

Speaking with fire chiefs and departments, we learned that a 90º rotating head made crawling in small spaces more manageable as the light could be directed forward instead of the beam being pointed at the floor from the crawl position.

Firefighters have also expressed value for the downward-angled floodlight for improving awareness and preventing blinding teammates during close-up work.

We continue to rely on this feedback loop to continually provide value-added innovation.

Users wanted more flexibility with helmet-mounted lights, which led to the development of the FORGE® IS Helmet-Mounted Light which can be pinpointed in any direction 360º while on the helmet for exact placement.

This mount flexibility substantially increases the user experience by which the light can be harnessed.
