Advisory restructure strengthens Serco’s consultancy offer in the Middle East

Serco has confirmed that Climatize and ExperienceLab have been incorporated into its advisory arm +impact.

The company said the integration will expand its capabilities in user-centred design, operational transformation and sustainability consulting.

According to Serco, the full transition of Climatize into +impact in the United Arab Emirates is expected by the end of 2026.

It noted that the integration has already been completed for operations in Saudi Arabia and international markets.

Leadership changes reflect new structure

Serco stated that the transition has involved internal leadership changes to support its service delivery.

Rena Baba, previously Director of ExperienceLab Middle East, has been appointed as Director of Experience Design and Innovation at +impact in the Middle East.

The facility, known as the Trainovation Fire and Safety Training Center, is designed to offer NFPA-certified courses for fire and safety professionals based in the United Arab Emirates.

SIBCA said the centre will provide instruction on fire protection systems, electrical hazards, industrial safety planning and building compliance measures.

Siderise opens new site to improve lead times for UAE and Middle East customers

Siderise has reported the opening of a new manufacturing facility in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, to support its growing regional customer base.

According to Siderise, the new site focuses on producing its RH25-120/90 open state cavity barrier for ventilated cladding façade systems.

The manufacturer explained that the facility has reduced customer lead times from six weeks to between three and five days, depending on order quantities.

Siderise stated that this shorter turnaround is intended to help project teams meet construction schedules more easily.

Magirus has reported that it has delivered 20 additional Magirus AirCore TAF60-X remote-controlled firefighting support units to the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC).

According to Magirus, this marks the second order from SEC in three years, following the initial deployment of Magirus AirCore TAF35 systems in 2022.

The company stated that the Saudi Electricity Company, described as the country’s largest energy provider, has expanded its fleet with the latest generation of tracked vehicles equipped with turbine technology.

Magirus said the TAF60-X systems can deliver up to 6,000 litres of water per minute, achieve throw distances of up to 90 metres, and be operated from a distance of up to 300 metres.

Magirus explained that the new units feature a centrally positioned, swivelling main monitor and an additional movable head-mounted monitor.

According to the IAFC, the campaign aims to reach and train one billion people between 2025 and 2027. The initiative focuses on increasing public and responder awareness of fire safety practices across 34 countries in collaboration with 18 major firefighting organisations.

The Dubai Civil Defense is funding the initiative. Activities began in September 2024. The IAFC has committed to supporting this effort through quarterly updates on member outreach and encouraging global fire services to submit local engagement data.

Daniel MacGregor, Chief Growth Officer at Serco, said recent extreme weather events in Dubai highlighted the challenges of managing sudden flooding despite preventative measures already in place.

He stated: “Dubai’s floods that took place one year ago demonstrated the complexities of managing extreme weather events, even with significant measures already in place.”

MacGregor explained that although emergency services responded to the situation, gaps in coordination and communication emerged due to the scale of the flooding and the region’s limited experience handling such conditions.

Flood awareness and public communication highlighted as critical

MacGregor identified public communication and awareness as essential components of future emergency planning in the UAE.

He said: “Public awareness campaigns play a vital role in supporting these preparations.

“Ensuring residents understand flood risks and safety protocols can help communities respond more effectively during emergencies.”

He referenced the United Kingdom’s Flood Mary campaign as a possible model for the UAE, highlighting its role in providing clear advice on property protection and personal safety during flood events.

Serco’s report emphasised that sustained infrastructure investment and improved coordination between agencies would be necessary to reduce the impact of future floods.

MacGregor stated: “To further mitigate flooding risks, continued investment in infrastructure and advanced risk assessments are essential.”

He added that collaboration between multiple agencies, supported by joint testing and exercises, can strengthen response times and improve operational efficiency.

MacGregor also highlighted the potential contributions of private sector organisations to national preparedness efforts.

He explained that insurance companies could support property resilience by offering products that incentivise flood-resistant design.

He also noted that advisory companies such as +impact, backed by Serco’s experience in global disaster management, could provide strategic support in areas such as professional deployment, response plan optimisation and service delivery tailored to regional requirements.

New UAE regulation mandates fire suppression systems on school buses

Reacton Fire Suppression has reported that a new regulation issued by the United Arab Emirates government requires all school buses to be fitted with automatic fire suppression systems from 15 April 2025.

The regulation, UAE.S 5041:2021, is designed to improve safety for approximately 500,000 children travelling on 17,000 school buses daily.

The systems rapidly detect and extinguish engine fires, which is essential given limited evacuation time on school buses.

The regulation requires education providers to install the systems through an approved supplier as part of their annual vehicle check and registration process.

Reacton certified as first approved provider in the UAE

Reacton is the first company to be approved by the Emirates Safety Laboratory to supply fire suppression systems for school buses under the new standard.
