Rasheed Alzahrani, Safety and Security Director at the King Salman Park Foundation, said: “Successful event security in today’s open public spaces, like those in Riyadh, goes beyond just showing a strong presence; it’s a smart, forward-thinking effort focused on safety and a great visitor experience.

“This means combining technology, such as AI-powered cameras that watch crowds, with well-trained staff who can react to real-time information.

“It starts with planning, sharing information among police, event organisers and other groups to understand and prevent threats.”

Technology and real-time monitoring

Lt. Col. Dr. Hamad Khalifa Al Nuaimi, Head of the Telecommunications Division – Information Technology Center at Abu Dhabi Police, explained that real-time monitoring tools are essential for mega-event protection.

He said that technology capable of assessing crowd density, traffic flow, and mobile device activity can support decision-making during live events.

The officer added that such tools allow authorities to respond quickly to developing risks while maintaining public safety and service continuity.

According to Intersec Saudi Arabia, collaboration was another theme stressed by industry experts.

Konstantin Turuntcev, Managing Partner at Event Concept Consultancy QFZ LLC, said: “Knowledge is power, and every experience offers unique insights.

Intersec Saudi Arabia reported that the session “Mega-Event Protection Excellence: Mastering the Security Challenges for Large-Scale Gatherings” will open the Future Security Summit Powered by ASIS International Dhahran Chapter.

The panel will address issues including crowd management, emergency planning, inter-agency coordination, and the use of smart surveillance.

The event organisers confirmed that additional sessions will cover Integrated Security Design for Smart Cities, using NEOM as a case study, and presentations on accessibility and crowd movement.

According to Diriyah Company, the contract includes construction of the Diriyah Arena, three mixed-use office buildings and associated parking infrastructure.

The Diriyah Arena will have a gross floor area of around 74,000 square metres and seat up to 20,000 spectators.

The venue is intended to host concerts, sports events, esports, exhibitions and live performances.

The project is part of the broader Diriyah development supported by the Public Investment Fund.

Arena designed to combine modern infrastructure with heritage architecture

Diriyah Arena has been designed by HKS Inc. to reflect both the geology of the area and Najdi architectural elements.

Diriyah Company said the architectural style aligns with wider efforts across the project to integrate cultural identity into new infrastructure.

The venue is intended to support community use and international events.

It will be one of several entertainment and cultural destinations in the wider Diriyah development.

Other venues in the project include the Royal Diriyah Opera House and a network of museums and academies.

These buildings will total around 114,000 square metres.

The contract includes a car park with capacity for more than 4,000 vehicles.

The Arena Block forms part of the 14-square-kilometre Diriyah development.

Diriyah Company said the area is expected to house around 100,000 people and generate 178,000 jobs.

According to Teledyne GFD, the new site was created in partnership with Industrial Detection Solutions (IDS) to support local production of its gas detection technologies.

The facility will manufacture sensors for detecting toxic and combustible gases used at oil, gas, petrochemical and LNG facilities across the Middle East.

Teledyne GFD said the facility will produce its DM-700 toxic gas sensor and its FP-700 and IR-700 combustible gas sensors.

The company explained that relocating manufacturing to Saudi Arabia will improve supply chains by reducing delivery times and increasing regional accessibility.

The project also supports Saudi Arabia’s In-Kingdom Total Value Add (IKTVA) programme, which aims to localise manufacturing and develop regional supplier capacity within the energy sector.

The IKTVA programme is a national policy designed to increase industrial participation within Saudi Arabia’s oil and gas supply chain.

Teledyne GFD stated that its partnership with IDS helps meet IKTVA objectives by enabling local manufacturing of safety-critical devices.

Products made in Dammam will serve regional energy sector

According to Teledyne GFD, the DM-700 sensor uses electrochemical technology to detect oxygen and toxic gases and features a smart, plug-in cell that identifies gas type and range automatically.

The FP-700 sensor monitors combustible gases using catalytic bead technology.

The IR-700 sensor detects combustible hydrocarbons using non-dispersive infrared optical sensor technology.
