He added that the accident resulted in the damage of the external façade of the tower igniting on one side and reaching a number of residential apartments, with 11 cases of suffocation, which were treated at the scene by the national ambulance, and two people with moderate injuries were transferred to Sheikh Khalifa Hospital for treatment.

ILUS ramps up Middle Eastern fire safety expansion plans

ILUS International Inc., a Mergers and Acquisitions company focused on acquiring and growing public safety and industrial companies across the globe, signed a Share Purchase Agreement to acquire 51% control of AL Shola Al Modea Safety and Security LLC, an established fire safety company registered in the United Arab Emirates.

In a strategic move by ILUS, the company has acquired the majority stake of ASSS to ramp up its Middle Eastern fire safety expansion plans.

This involves ASSS working closely alongside BCD Fire, which was wholly acquired by ILUS in April 2021, to dominate the United Arab Emirates (UAE) fire safety sector through the leveraging of licensing, certifications, manpower, experience, and relationships.

The acquisition will also speed up ILUS’ focused expansion into the Saudi Arabian market as well as the rest of the Gulf region.

As a well renowned primary contractor for many of the region’s most prestigious property developments, ASSS specializes in the design, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of fire alarm, fire protection and security systems. ASSS holds the highest level of licensing and certifications to operate as the main contractor for commercial, residential, and industrial facilities across the United Arab Emirates.

ASSS has a full order book for 2023 and is currently expanding its resources to take on additional contracts. As a main contractor, the company will work closely with BCD Fire, who operates primarily as a sub-contractor in the region. Together, the companies plan to secure larger contracts and reduce project completion timeframes.

It is hoped that the cooperation between the two companies will result in a substantial momentum shift for ILUS’ fire safety growth plans across the Middle East, including in Saudi Arabia, where ILUS has been negotiating several large contracts, all requiring the additional manpower and experience provided by ASSS.

The Managing Director of ASSS, Sanjeeb Safir, who has been involved in the company since its inception and led its growth for many years, will take on the role of General Manager for both ASSS and BCD Fire, from January 2023.

John-Paul Backwell, ILUS Managing Director said: “This is an important strategic acquisition for ILUS in the Middle East and it also signifies the significant progress we are making towards our global fire safety rollout.

“There is so much more going on behind the scenes when it comes to product development, project management of current contracts and business development for new contracts, therefore this deal is important for strengthening our management and resources in the region to ensure that we reach our milestones and accelerate our growth in the Gulf region.

“I am looking forward to working closely with ASSS, together with BCD Fire, to capitalize on the plethora of huge opportunities in the UAE and Saudi Arabia. With further deals and important strategic moves lined up, we expect to close out 2022 strongly with further announcements before starting 2023 with a flourish leading up to our second Annual Shareholder Meeting on January the 27th.”

UL Solutions launches service for fire alarm control units in UAE

UL Solutions has introduced a new product category covering fire alarm control units and accessories intended to be used in the United Arab Emirates as part of a household fire-warning system.

To balance cultural practices with safety enhancements, UL Solutions, a global safety science leader, developed a new testing program and a new Certification Mark for the UAE.

The program tests residential fire alarm control units that permit residents to briefly disable alarms to burn incense. Products that demonstrate compliance with the testing protocol earn the all-new UL-AE Certification Mark.

By applying solid regional insights and deep industry expertise, UL’s new testing program for fire alarm control units aims to inspire greater confidence among UAE residents, opening the market for safer products and maximising emergency services resources.

In 2018, the UAE Civil Defense launched a campaign to introduce a smart fire detection, alarm and monitoring system to every residential villa in the UAE. The initiative involved designing and installing a fire detection system for early warning of a fire outbreak to inform occupants to evacuate the premises with almost instantaneous alarms.

To improve response times, the alarm systems are connected to a signal monitoring center that receives the signal of a fire outbreak and confers with the owner on the current situation before dispatching the necessary fire response resources.

This alarm feature is designed to reduce the possibility of false alarms to prepare civil defense crews on arrival, especially in villa homes with the highest incidence of fire calls in the UAE.

Intersec Saudi Arabia: Day One highlights

The fourth edition of Intersec Saudi Arabia, the exhibition which is a nexus of the Kingdom’s fire and emergency services, security, and safety industry, returns live and in-person to Riyadh today. The show and associated conference, which have attracted an extensive local, regional, and international exhibitor and speaker profile, will run at the Riyadh International Convention & Exhibition Center (RICEC) until Thursday, September 15.

His Excellency Mohammad Abdullah ALMarshed, Vice Chairman of Board of Directors, Chairman, Real Estate Committee of the Riyadh Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Intersec Saudi Arabia’s patron, inaugurated today’s exhibition.

He commented: “It is reassuring to welcome Intersec Saudi Arabia and all its local, regional, and international participants back to the capital for what promises to be an intense three days of partnership building, business deals and informative insights into the Kingdom’s comprehensive security market, its future needs and the new technology and systems which can serve it.”

More than 150 exhibitors from 20 countries are participating in the exhibition looking for market breakthroughs or expansion in the Kingdom – the largest and fastest growing market for security, safety, and fire protection in the Middle East, which is estimated, by analysts 6WResearch, to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 6.3% to reach US$1.2 billion in 2026.

Alex Nicholl, Intersec Saudi Arabia’s Show Director, said: “The potential of the Kingdom’s security market, which now covers cyber security which is being prioritised by the Kingdom’s national infrastructure security leaders, has drawn an expansive international exhibitor profile which covers the entire industry eco-system and includes manufacturers, service providers, distributors and wholesalers who are presenting a wide range of innovations from the key security and fire and safety product groups.”

The show covers five product groups across commercial & perimeter security, cybersecurity, homeland security and policing, fire and rescue as well as safety and health.

The fourth edition of Intersec Saudi Arabia also comes as the Kingdom looks to improve nationwide fire safety and industrial security regulations with 6WResearch forecasting the nation’s fire safety systems and equipment market – the largest in the GCC – will register 5.5 per cent compound annual growth until 2025 reaching a cumulative value of $402m. Growth is being driven in part by government regulation of compulsory installation of fire safety, detection, and alarm systems in buildings and the recent strengthening of the remit of Saudi Arabia’s High Commission for Industrial Security (HCIS).

Meanwhile, government leaders, agencies, organisational heads, world-class speakers, government stakeholders, policymakers, law enforcement, civil defence and private sector players are also gathering in Riyadh for Intersec Saudi Arabia 2022’s Conference. Over three days, the influential gathering will debate and define the future of the Kingdom’s security industry and its role in fulfilling its Vision 2030 goals.

The conference will feature a National Security Leaders’ Panel where industry leaders will examine ways of securing Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 through a multi-domain approach to addressing challenges from land, maritime, air, and space.

“Delegates will hear of the latest initiatives for national security, and the existing collaborations between the Government and the private sector to gain a deeper understanding of the implications of Vision 2030 in national security,” added Nicholl.

The conference will also examine strategic opportunities to solve the human resource gap within the Kingdom’s security Industry and the means to attract, retain, and grow local talent, while creating strong and successful succession planning programs, and reaching optimal Saudization levels in the sector.

Intersec Saudi Arabia is organised by Saudi-based Al-Harithy Company for Exhibitions (ACE) Group under licence from UAE-headquartered Messe Frankfurt Middle East, which organises Intersec, the world’s leading exhibition for security, safety, and fire protection.

Intersec Saudi Arabia is held in participation with Saudi Civil Defense, together with the industry at large.

Saudi Arabia: At the forefront of fire safety

As Saudi Arabia looks to improve nationwide fire safety and industrial security regulations, the Kingdom’s demand for fire prevention and safety implementation systems is forecast to continue its upward trajectory during the next three years.

Market consultancy firm 6WResearch has forecast the Kingdom’s fire safety systems and equipment market – the largest in the GCC – will register 5.5 per cent compound annual growth by 2025, reaching a cumulative value of US$402m. Growth is being driven in part by government regulation of compulsory installation of fire safety, detection, and alarm systems in buildings and the recent strengthening of the remit of Saudi Arabia’s High Commission for Industrial Security (HCIS).

In August this year, Saudi Arabia’s higher authorities granted the HCIS – which sets policies overseeing security, safety, and fire protection for the Kingdom’s industrial sectors – increased powers to boost its efficiency. It means HCIS will now fully regulate policies governing security, safety, and fire protection in the petroleum, industrial, and service sectors. All facilities in these sectors can now only progress projects with the collaboration of the Commission.

“This will all result in increased demand for state-of-the-art systems and sector-wide training, which helps explain the 6WResearch forecast of a further upwards trajectory,” said Alex Nicholl, Director Intersec, which runs from September 13-15 and is a key annual event in the Kingdom’s fire and emergency services, security, and safety industry.

“This all adds to the increased opportunities being held out to the fire protection and safety industries by the Kingdom’s plans to attract investments worth USD32 billion in the mining and mineral sector. This is expected to be achieved through nine new projects, including manufacturing facilities to produce steel plates for shipbuilding, electric vehicle batteries, and copper and zinc refineries, all of which are part of helping realise Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 objectives of making the mining sector the third pillar of the National Industrial Development and Logistics Program.”

The huge new potential of the Kingdom’s market is driving more sector-wide players to Saudi Arabia, as witnessed by the growth in Intersec Saudi Arabia, the fourth edition set to be held at Riyadh International Convention & Exhibition Centre (RICEC) on 13-15 September.

“This is shaping up to be our most comprehensive showcase to date,” said Nicholl. “We have received intense interest from the entire industrial eco-system, including key government leaders, agencies, and organisational heads.”

Intersec Saudi Arabia is witnessing growth across its five largest product categories: commercial & perimeter security; cybersecurity; homeland security; fire, and rescue; and safety and health.

Though the international fire, rescue, safety, and security suppliers now have Saudi Arabia firmly in their sights, regional players believe they have a supply advantage as proximity to the Kingdom can enable them to counter the global supply chain challenges that have hampered their international counterparts.

UAE exhibitor National Factory for Safety and Security Products (NFSSP) plans to unveil its Hoods brand of tactical and safety footwear at Intersec Saudi Arabia and says it hopes to reap the benefit of its geographic accessibility to the Kingdom.

“Saudi Arabia is a hugely important market for us and is continuously growing,” said Majed Abdulaziz Ahmed Ateq Albakeri, CEO and chairman of NFSSP. “We see massive opportunities in the construction and oil and gas sectors. We estimate we can contribute around 200,000 pairs of shoes to the market in 2023 and grow 10 per cent over the next five years.

“Globally, many companies are facing issues and high costs in logistics, petrol, and other challenges when it comes to supplying the market. This makes our UAE-made shoes a great option for the Saudi and GCC markets. We are well-positioned, competitive, and our quality and technology are approved to European standards.”

Supply chain challenges will be among the topics addressed at Intersec Saudi Arabia’s Conferences. Running for three days, the conference will bring together key government leaders, agencies, organisational heads, as well as world-class speakers, government stakeholders, policymakers, law enforcement, civil defence, and private sector players to define the future of security in the Kingdom.

“The Intersec Saudi Arabia Conference is a think tank for regional and international security industry players, who will gain key leader’s security perspectives on Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030,” added Nicholl. “These insights will enable all parties to better prepare to meet the Kingdom’s security needs for the next decade and more.”

Intersec Saudi Arabia is organised by Al Harithy Company for Exhibitions (ACE), Saudi Arabia’s leading event organiser, and is licensed by Messe Frankfurt Exhibition GmbH, one of the world’s largest exhibition organisers.
