FIREFLY at Fire Safety Event 2026

FIREFLY will present four new passive fire protection products at the Fire Safety Event 2026, taking place at the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) in Birmingham from 28 to 30 April.

The company confirmed the products will be showcased on stand 4H 103 alongside its Apollo, Zeus and Titan Lite ranges.

Product range planned for the stand

According to FIREFLY, the new line-up includes FIREFLY Span, the FIREFLY FB180 Raised Access Floor System, an adapted Apollo Lite 30:30 barrier and a one-sided mineral wool batt.

FIREFLY Span has been developed for construction joints in walls and floors to prevent the spread of fire, smoke and sound for up to 60 minutes.

Testing to BS EN 1366-4 confirmed the viability of its open celled polyurethane foam structure impregnated with fire resistant chemicals and bonded with intumescent graphite layers.

The FIREFLY FB180 Raised Access Floor System uses ablative batts to deliver up to 240 minutes protection against flame spread within voids beneath raised access floors.

Apollo Lite 30:30 has been repurposed for suspended ceiling installations to support compartmentation performance and smoke control.

The adapted barrier is tested to BS 476 Part 22 and provides 30 minutes integrity and insulation.

A one-sided mineral wool batt will also be displayed, designed for cutting to shape and installation in locations where access is restricted.

Typical applications include hospitals, care homes, plant rooms and heritage properties.

FIREFLY personnel will be available at the NEC to discuss the products and their intended applications.

When constructing any type of building with curtain walling, protecting the void at the perimeter joint with the right passive fire protection solutions is crucial.

However, even the most robust and carefully considered fire safety specification can underperform, or fail completely, if not properly installed, increasing the risk of fire and smoke damage to life, property and the environment.

Firestopping contractors play a critical role in ensuring fire safety strategies are delivered in the way they have been designed.

Installation quality

Passive fire protection is built into the building envelope and contains the spread of fire, heat and smoke by creating areas of manageable risk using fire-resistant materials and gap-filling measures.

This limits the movement of flames and smoke, protects egress routes and reduces the chance of fire-induced structural damage, which could result in collapse.

While these solutions are designed to perform without operator intervention, they must be installed correctly in line with their manufacturer’s recommendations and, where applicable, their third party verified listings, to function as intended because breaches in compartmentation could provide an easy path for flames, heat and smoke to spread up and around the building in the event of a fire.

Incorrectly installed firestopping systems will not be reflective of the way the products have been designed, tested or listed.

Issues could include the use of incorrect fixings, installing safing products in the wrong orientation or without the right level of compression, using them alongside other passive fire protection products in untested ways, and applying the sealant in two-part pack-and-spray systems with an inconsistent wet film thickness or in unsuitable application conditions.

Product selection

A listing for firestopping systems is essential because it provides independent, third-party verification that a specific firestop system has been thoroughly tested to appropriate standards and if properly installed, will perform as intended in a fire, ensuring compliance with building codes and contributing to overall building and life safety.

Listings include essential, detailed information on how the system must be installed, including maximum allowable perimeter void sizes, the required materials and their specifications.

If the installation deviates from the parameters specified in the listing, its fire-resistance rating is voided, which compromises safety.

While listings are voluntary, it helps ensure that products supplied for testing are the same as supplied to market, with ongoing assessment and surveillance from the certification body.

Manufacturers should make this information easily accessible.

In circumstances where field conditions vary from the original design, or where unforeseen build obstructions arise, technical evaluations based on the closest listed system and that recommends different installation methods may be necessary to ensure performance is not compromised.

In such cases, the evaluation should be carried out by, or in conjunction with, the manufacturer, by suitably qualified and competent persons and provide clear installation instructions.

With mitigating the risk of human error in mind, using products that have been engineered to be installed easily and accurately can assist in meeting a project’s design intent.

This can not only help to ensure a safer project but can help to reduce additional costs and lost time associated with remedial works.

For example, the vertical fibre orientation of dry-fit stone wool Lamella firestopping products, coupled with clear instructions on the foil facings, can help guide the installer in the correct direction in which to install.

Inspection

Another key benefit of dry-fit firestopping products is that there is no need for destructive inspection to sign off on their installation, with visual inspections being sufficient.

Where required or desired, some manufacturers can also conduct these non-destructive inspections – in-person and / or via app – to verify if their products have been correctly installed.

This can be invaluable, particularly on large and complex buildings where there may be many different considerations.

The final report can be included in the handover documentation, providing a clear record of exactly what’s in the building and how it was installed.

This helps to maintain a continuous thread of information, which can be a useful reference point for any future modifications to the building that may affect the envelope.

Competency and training

Everyone in the construction process must have the appropriate levels of skills, knowledge, experience and behaviours to do their job properly and adhere to code requirements.

There are several independent schemes for installation contractors that can include training, third-party certification and professional qualifications.

For example, the FCIA (Firestop Contractors International Association) promotes high firestop installation quality through accreditation initiatives like the FM 4991 Standard for the Approval of Firestop Contractors, the UL Qualified Firestop Contractor Program, and the FIRAS scheme through UKAS to BS EN ISO/IEC 17065: 2012.

They help differentiate quality contractors via third-party audits of their quality management systems and field installations, ensuring compliance with tested systems.

Whilst voluntary, they are good practice and help ensure a strong foundation of competency.

These often include various assessments of both how projects are managed, and how installations are carried out and overseen.

However, for teams wanting to know more about the explicit methods and approaches needed to install a specific manufacturer’s products effectively, training packages offered by the manufacturer can provide installers with invaluable insight into the specific nuances of their firestopping products, as well as potential build challenges, allowing them to be addressed before the installation programme has progressed and preventing issues being baked into the construction.

This offering should include a combination of classroom learning and practical onsite training, including everything from toolbox talks that ensure installation instructions and method statements are clearly understood, to delivering hands-on training and benchmark installations to demonstrate best practice.

Unless a specialist façade contractor with dedicated firestop installers has been appointed, the individuals installing the safing measures could change from project to project, or even at different stages of a single project.

Therefore, having access to manufacturer training throughout, and not just at the start, can help to ensure continual adherence to the fire safety strategy.

For this training and onsite support to be effective, early engagement with the product manufacturer is crucial.

This is especially true for ambitious, complex designs that need a tailored installation approach, or where there are deviations from the original drawings due to unforeseen challenges or changes in conditions onsite.

Additionally, manufacturers can often give feedback to design teams so they can learn to help improve the practicality of future designs, ensuring continuous improvement and collaboration.

Hidden defence

The FCIA defines the ‘DIIM’ of Firestopping™ as the proper Design, Installation, Inspection and Maintaining Protection of Firestop Systems stating that “When all the pieces of the ‘DIIM’ puzzle are present, the result is greater reliability of installed fire-resistance-rated and smoke resistant assemblies and effective compartmentation.

This ensures that installed fire-resistance-rated and smoke-resistant assemblies have a better chance of performing as designed.” There is no room for compromise when it comes to the safety of our buildings, and the success of any fire safety strategy depends on both the quality of the products and the precision of their installation.

Therefore, it is vital that firestop installers feel confident and competent to deliver accuracy onsite.

Engaging with manufacturers as early in the process as possible can provide the support necessary to ensure products are handled and fitted in line with recommendations and that they will perform as expected in the unfortunate event of a fire.

Hong Kong Fire Services Department sets out inspection, licensing and training changes

Hong Kong year-end review: response activity and regulatory changes

The Hong Kong Fire Services Department recorded fewer fire calls in 2025, alongside new inspection measures and regulatory initiatives affecting buildings and fire safety compliance.

Details were presented in a year-end review delivered on February 24 by Mr Andy Yeung, Director of Fire Services.

Total fire calls reached 35,972 in 2025, compared with 37,828 in 2024.

False alarms fell to 26,915 cases, down from 29,357 the previous year.

Damaging building fires reached 2,000 cases, an increase of 25 incidents compared with 2024.

Electrical faults accounted for about 42 per cent of building fires and human negligence, including careless handling of cigarette ends and candles, accounted for about 25 per cent.

Response performance remained above target, with 96.1 per cent of building fire calls attended within the graded response time, exceeding the department’s 92.5 per cent performance pledge.

A No. 5 alarm fire at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po on November 26 resulted in 168 deaths and the loss of Senior Fireman (Posthumous) Ho Wai-ho.

Special service calls rose to 42,485 in 2025, compared with 39,320 in 2024.

More than 800 special service calls were handled during Super Typhoon Ragasa in September, including 514 incidents involving fallen trees.

Emergency response personnel also attended a serious aircraft accident at Hong Kong International Airport in October, evacuating four crew members from the cabin.

International deployments included participation in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) search and rescue team following a 7.7-magnitude earthquake in Myanmar, where personnel helped rescue a survivor trapped for more than 125 hours.

Regulatory developments included the launch of the Registered Fire Engineer Scheme in November 2025, allowing qualified professionals to carry out fire safety risk assessments within a defined scope.

Support for older buildings expanded through three Building Improvement Support Centres, which handled 23,239 cases by the end of 2025.

Approvals of fire services installation drawings increased from 1,176 buildings in 2024 to 1,507 in 2025.

A pilot scheme allowing enforcement authorities to carry out fire safety improvement works on behalf of non-compliant building owners was introduced in the third quarter of 2025, covering 10 buildings.

Testing of an Internet of Things fire detection system began in 10 buildings of six storeys or below, with completion of the pilot phase expected in early 2026.

Inspection timelines for new fire protection facilities were shortened, with average acceptance inspection durations reduced from 52 to 35 days for regular projects and 22 days for public housing projects.

Remote inspection pilots using video conferencing processed 563 licence-related cases between August and December 2025, with full implementation planned for 2026.

Yeung said: “saving those in distress and protecting the community”.

Hong Kong fire safety education: VR expansion and community training targets

Hong Kong authorities outlined plans to expand fire safety education, including increased use of virtual reality technology and wider community training programmes.

Information was provided in a Legislative Council reply on February 25 by Mr Tang Ping-keung, Secretary for Security.

Fire safety talks and advisory services increased over the past three years, reaching 147,487 in 2025, up from 141,565 in 2024 and 133,295 in 2023.

District-level fire safety work has been coordinated through the Fire Services Department Community Collaboration Network, which includes Divisional Commanders and district fire safety committee representatives.

Distribution of emergency preparedness equipment formed part of this work, with more than 3,000 sets of fire extinguishers, fire blankets and stand-alone detectors provided in 2025.

Plans for 2026 include distribution of 5,400 disaster and emergency preparedness kits equipped with smoke hoods.

Community training programmes continued to expand, with 8,420 members joining the Community Emergency Responder Scheme by the end of 2025.

Annual recruitment targets for the scheme have been increased to 10,000 participants.

Specialised Building Emergency Responder training has also been introduced for property management personnel, residents and building representatives.

Around 100 property management personnel completed training in December 2025.

A further 15,000 licensed property management personnel are scheduled to receive training in 2026 through collaboration with the Property Management Services Authority.

Use of immersive training tools remains part of the education approach, including the Emergency Preparedness Education Bus, which features a virtual reality simulation system.

Additional virtual reality elements will be incorporated into community training programmes, enabling participants to experience simulated emergency scenarios through visual and audio environments.

Two Disaster Prevention Experience Centres are planned for Wan Chai and Tseung Kwan O, featuring facilities and equipment designed to simulate fire incidents and other emergencies.

School-based programmes remain part of the education framework, with the Fire Services Department working alongside the Education Bureau to deliver training and preparedness activities.

Schools are required to conduct fire drills at least once every six months and maintain written evacuation records.

The Hong Kong updates combine operational data from 2025 with regulatory, inspection and training measures planned for implementation during 2026.

Globe Gear Giveaway 2026 application period opens for volunteer fire departments

Globe Gear Giveaway application period now open

The 2026 application period is now open for MSA’s Globe Gear Giveaway, which will award new Globe turnout gear and MSA Cairns helmets to selected volunteer fire departments in the US and Canada.

The National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) said the annual programme enables eligible departments in need to apply for four sets of turnout jackets, pants and helmets.

The application period is open through noon ET on June 1.

Eligibility, awards and programme track record

The programme is in its 15th year and has provided 186 departments with 819 sets of turnouts and 364 helmets.

In 2026, 52 sets of gear will be awarded to 13 departments.

To be eligible, a department must be over 50% volunteer.

A department must serve a population of 25,000 or less.

A department must be located in the United States or Canada and be legally organised under state or province law.

The criteria states that Indian or tribal entities not organised under state or province law are eligible.

A department must have at least one active NVFC member.

To help departments meet the NVFC membership requirement, MSA will provide one year individual NVFC memberships to the first 500 applicants.

Applicants must also demonstrate a need for the gear.

NVFC Chair Steve Hirsch said: “Turnout gear is critical to the health, safety, and effectiveness of firefighters, yet there are many volunteer fire departments across the U.S. and Canada that struggle to find funding for the gear they need.

“For 15 years, this program has helped address that need and ensure more firefighters are properly equipped to serve their communities.

“We thank MSA Safety for this ongoing partnership and their commitment to supporting the volunteer fire service.”

The most forward-thinking installers are stepping up; they are engaging with clients early in the design phase, they have a working knowledge of the latest technology advances and can provide products that serve a wide range of user needs.

In this article, we review how inclusive standards are being applied in practice and how forward-thinking engineers are helping clients see accessibility not as a bolt-on feature, but as a fundamental design principle.

Inclusive standards in practice

Understanding accessibility in fire safety starts with a review of the regulations themselves.

Each region applies its own framework of codes and standards, and together they define how inclusive life safety should function in practice.

For installers, this means interpreting what standards demand on site and how they affect system design in each unique application.

In the UK, BS 5839‑1 and BS 5266‑1 outline core requirements for fire detection and emergency lighting.

BS 5839‑9 extends this by requiring Emergency Voice Communication (EVC) systems in refuge areas.

These systems support people with mobility impairments by enabling communication with emergency responders during evacuation.

Across Europe, EN 54 standards, including EN 54‑23 for Visual Alarm Devices (VADs), help ensure that life safety systems accommodate users with hearing impairments.

In the Middle East, local codes often blend UL and EN requirements to address safety in complex, high-density buildings where occupant needs vary widely.

Legal and reputational pressures have increased since the Grenfell Tower fire, particularly in the UK.

However, following this tragedy, building owners and facility managers around the world are now expected to demonstrate that their systems support everyone, not just the average occupant.

Installers as strategic advisors: Real world examples

For fire safety professionals, this is not just a challenge, but an opportunity.

The best installers today are not just system integrators; they are strategic partners.

They help clients understand why inclusive fire safety is worth investing in, and they guide them through the complexities of standards, technologies and real-world needs.

That conversation becomes much easier when backed by practical experience.

At Merriman Grange, a care home in West Sussex, the installation of an addressable L1 fire detection system from Hochiki included features specifically selected to protect residents in a dedicated dementia unit.

The ability to adjust alarm tones and volumes minimised distress for occupants with cognitive impairments, while still ensuring reliable alerting and full coverage across all three floors.

In Italy, the Sacro Cuore Don Calabria Hospital in Verona faced a very different challenge—minimising false alarms in a complex healthcare environment without compromising safety for vulnerable patients.

The installation team deployed intelligent multi-sensor technology and integrated addressable panels from Hochiki across eight buildings, the site reduced unnecessary evacuations that could otherwise disorient or endanger those in critical care.

And in the Middle East, the Outpost Al Barari, a luxury eco-resort deep in the desert, introduced a different set of design constraints.

Built to harmonise with its constantly shifting natural environment, the resort’s layout changes with the desert itself, requiring a flexible and non-invasive approach to life safety.

Hochiki’s wireless system was deployed using hybrid technology, enabling quick reconfiguration of detection and alerting devices without disruptive installation works.

The solution included accessible call points mounted at the correct height for wheelchair users, visual alarm devices for hearing-impaired guests, and full integration with central control panels.

Ekho wireless technology allowed the system to flex as the resort evolved, while maintaining full coverage and minimal aesthetic impact.

These projects demonstrate that inclusive systems are not just about ticking regulatory boxes.

They are about understanding human needs and the surrounding environment to deliver technical solutions that respond with precision and care.

What to look for in a technology partner

Installers often rely on long-term relationships with manufacturers to ensure consistent performance and regulatory compliance.

However, regular review is essential.

As building and standards evolve, so should the technologies used to support them.

Manufacturers that specialise in life safety and offer comprehensive solutions, such as detection, emergency lighting and EVC integration, can simplify specification and improve system coherence.

Designing for varied user needs improves safety for all occupants, not just those with visible impairments.

Shifting expectations in fire safety

The expectation for inclusive design is growing across all sectors.

End users, regulatory bodies and industry stakeholders increasingly treat accessibility as a baseline requirement rather than an enhancement.

Installers play a key role in meeting this expectation.

By working with manufacturers focused on life safety and advising clients on emerging standards, they help ensure that fire systems reflect how buildings are used.

This involves considering a broad range of users, including vulnerable people such as the elderly or children as well as those with cognitive impairments or limited mobility.

Systems must also support visitors unfamiliar with the building layout or language, especially if it is a public building.

Inclusive design is no longer a future goal, it is here and now and should reflect both societal values and legal obligations.

Messe Frankfurt Middle East reports record exhibitor numbers at Intersec 2026

Intersec 2026 visitor and exhibitor participation

Intersec 2026 brought together 44,764 trade visitors from 151 countries at the Dubai World Trade Centre during its three-day programme.

Messe Frankfurt Middle East reported that the 27th edition was held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mansoor Bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Ports and Borders Security Council.

Attendance included a 60 per cent domestic and 40 per cent international split.

The exhibition covered more than 65,000 square metres of gross exhibition space.

A total of 1,180 exhibitors from 56 countries participated, supported by 10 international country pavilions.

The programme included 14 conferences and specialist features addressing operational and regulatory topics.

International exhibitors accounted for 82 per cent of participants, with representation from the United States, China, India, South Korea, France, Germany, Italy, Türkiye and the United Kingdom.

The United Arab Emirates was the largest domestic exhibiting market.

Exhibitors presented technologies and systems across homeland security and policing, cybersecurity, commercial and perimeter security, fire and rescue and health and safety.

These included solutions focused on infrastructure protection, emergency response, workforce safety and crisis preparedness.

Intersec 2026 introduces Intersec Global identity

Messe Frankfurt Middle East announced the Intersec Global identity during the event as part of a broader restructuring of its sector framework.

This framework links national-level security priorities with workforce protection and individual safety across different operational environments.

Awards presented and future dates confirmed

Messe Frankfurt Middle East confirmed that the Intersec Awards 2026 recognised achievement across 17 categories during a gala event in Dubai.

Khalid Mubarak of Dubai Municipality received the H.H. Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Emirati Rising Star Award.

Albadr Jannah of Saudi Aramco was named Industry Leader of the Year.

Jazyah Aldossary of Saudi Aramco received the Women Trailblazers in Security, Fire Safety and HSE award.

Government partners included the General Command of Dubai Civil Defense (DCD) and the Security Industry Regulatory Agency (SIRA).

The next edition of Intersec will take place from 12 to 14 January 2027 at the Dubai World Trade Centre.

Chartered Week launches to promote chartership in fire engineering

Chartership campaign begins with Chartered Week launch

Chartered Week has begun today, running from 23 to 27 February, with the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) launching the campaign to promote chartered status across the fire sector.

The IFE announced the initiative in a blog post marking the start of Chartered Week, which is dedicated to explaining what chartership involves and how it applies in practice.

Chartered status is defined as a commitment to professionalism, continuing development and leadership.

Fire engineers who achieve chartership are expected to demonstrate both technical knowledge and the consistent, ethical application of that knowledge as fire risks evolve.

Chartered status is described as an ongoing professional obligation that signals credibility to employers, regulators, peers and the wider public.

Global recognition and professional expectations linked to chartership

The IFE stated that Chartered Engineers (CEng) demonstrate the theoretical knowledge required to solve problems and develop engineering techniques, alongside the ability to apply that knowledge across complex systems.

CEng registration provides global recognition of expertise and demonstrates professional competence, leadership and accountability.

Chartered Engineers in the fire sector include professionals working as directors, chief fire officers, partners, associates, consultants, designers and senior fire engineers.

Chartership can support career progression by enabling access to international roles, higher earning potential and involvement in complex engineering projects.

The IFE added that it provides guidance and application routes for professionals seeking chartered status, with branch-based applications available internationally and direct applications available through its central process.

Protecting operations, health and safety: International SOS talks wildfire planning

Extreme heat, dense smoke and rapid evacuations have disrupted staff and operations across Europe during what may become the region’s most severe wildfire season in decades.

Organisations have faced sudden relocations, air quality hazards and supply challenges, often without the planning needed to manage prolonged disruption.

These pressures have highlighted weaknesses in crisis structures and reinforced the need for clearer health guidance, faster decision-making and stronger continuity measures.

International SOS supports clients through these conditions by providing real-time security intelligence, medical advice and operational planning.

Their teams assist with evacuations, health protection, essential supplies, post-incident care and longer-term resilience work that helps organisations stay functional during extended wildfire activity.

To understand what this looks like in practice, IFSJ Editor Iain Hoey sat down with International SOS’s Adam Lakhani, Security Director and Dr Katherine O’Reilly, Medical Director, to discuss how their teams help organisations prepare for and respond to wildfire risks.

What challenges have organisations faced during nearby wildfires, especially for operations and staff welfare?

Lakhani: One of the biggest challenges is evacuation.

Wildfires spread quickly and unpredictably, catching people off guard.

Staff can suddenly find themselves unable to move freely, and industries that rely on fixed sites like factories and offices are severely impacted.

Dr O’Reilly: Along with relocating staff, ensuring they have essential supplies, such as face masks and bottled water, is also critical.

For example, during the January 2025 Los Angeles wildfires, we provided emergency accommodation for displaced employees and their families, helping them stay safe while businesses sustained continuity.

What practical problems do you encounter when accessing staff or protecting essential services during deployments?

Lakhani: The challenges our teams face can also mirror those of the people affected.

Crises can stretch teams over extended periods and with limited understanding of duration so the endurance of those on-the-ground, as well as supporting, can be a challenge.

Appropriate resourcing and rotations are essential.

Sometimes we simply can’t access certain locations because of essential restrictions.

During the Los Angeles wildfires, our teams worked around the clock to secure emergency housing, and ensure people were moved, safe and with critical supplies.

How do those challenges translate into health or safety risks for people in those settings?

Lakhani: The physical risk from wildfires remains acute.

During Canada’s 2025 wildfire season – one of the most severe on record – more than 7.3 million hectares were burned, forcing mass evacuations and creating widespread health and operational challenges.

International SOS supported organisations in protecting staff from poor air quality and extreme heat, which often converge to magnify risks.

There are also consequential security implications.

Large-scale evacuations can sometimes lead to looting or opportunistic crime, compounding the difficulties faced by affected communities.

Dr O’Reilly: The health impacts are both immediate and long term.

Inhalation of wildfire smoke – a toxic mix of heavy metals and carcinogens – can trigger asthma attacks, worsen Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), and increase the risk of heart attacks, strokes, and respiratory infections.

 Extreme heat adds further risk, with cases of dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heatstroke rising.

In fact, in the first seven months of 2025, International SOS saw a 13% increase in heat-related assistance calls compared to the previous year.

There is also a significant psychological toll.

Evacuations, property loss, and prolonged smoke exposure often leads to anxiety, depression, and PTSD.

Too many organisations remain underprepared, with gaps in both mental health support and emergency planning.

Our role goes beyond the immediate response – whether that’s evacuations, medical support, or delivering essential supplies.

We also provide post-incident care, including counselling services and stress management.

Mental health is often overlooked, with up to 50% of those exposed to extreme events experiencing lasting psychological impacts.

How is International SOS adapting its services as wildfires and heatwaves grow earlier and more intense?

Lakhani: We’re taking several steps to help organisations prepare.

Each year we publish our Wildfire Insight Report ahead of the season, which looks back at the previous year, forecasts risks, and shares practical recommendations.

We’re also reinforcing our partner networks so that we can assist no matter the location or request.

Every organisation has different needs, however, so a one-size-fits-all approach doesn’t work.

With the complexities of modern-day business, tailored preparedness and resilient networks matter more than ever.

What single piece of advice would you give fire and safety professionals facing severe heat-driven conditions today?

Lakhani: Plan ahead and put a clear crisis management structure in place.

Too often, bureaucracy slows down decision-making.

Organisations should be asking: Who is on our crisis management team? Do we have clear escalation points? Have we assessed and run tests or simulations for responding to wildfire risks to our people, assets, and operations? If the answer to any part of this is no, those gaps need to be closed.

Dr O’Reilly: Raising awareness of health risks is just as important as structural preparedness.

Organisations should run education campaigns and share preventative health advice – especially as extreme weather intensifies.

Prevention is critical: hydration, rest schedules, and recognising early symptoms can make all the difference.
